REACTING TO NATURAL HAIR TIK TOKS: .... well this was.. something. || Simone Nicole 2020
Hello Beautiful People!
Today's video is going to be reacting to natural hair Tik Toks, and it was defiantly thought provoking. We talk about gate keeping in the natural hair community, wavy hair vs curly hair, styling the hair, all that!! I had some opinions, like I always do lol, and I hope that we can continue the conversation down below. We laughed, we cried, we overall had a good time lol!
I hope that this video was entertaining for you all. Please let me know down below! Make sure to comment with any questions/thoughts that you might have for me. Let's talk! Thanks for coming to my channel and spending some time with me! Don't forget to subscribe before you leave!

Thank you for bringing this up! Everyone can be impacted negatively by white supremacist beauty ideals. I’m a Jewish (white) woman with 3b curls. I have been straightening my hair since I was 12 years old. People made fun of me in school. My boss at the cosmetic counter where I worked as a teen told me my hair looked unprofessional when I wore it curly. My professor/boss/mentor in college made negative comments about my curly hair when I wore my natural texture to work. I straightened my hair religiously every week since college. Wouldn’t go outside with my curls. Wore bangs all my life to hide my hairline. I’m 37 years old now, and I’m just starting to dip my toe into thinking about learning how to care for and maybe even begin to love my curly hair. Watching videos, buying a few products, trying out my natural texture a few times... running back to my round brush and flat iron, then trying again. I’m so inspired by this movement created by Black women. The gentrification of the curly hair/natural hair movement is certainly something I have noticed. I am here to learn. Thank you for making me feel like a welcome guest in this space. Sending all the love ❤️, respect, and good vibes to you!

Actually not all black women experience negativity towards their hair. I am a black women and all my white friends complemented my hair when I went natural since ive gone natural I have not received any negativity, only positivity from people of all races, Jewish, white, Asian, black. Confidence also plays a role. Also Asians and indigenous groups naturally have very straight hair so how does that fit into the whole "white supremacy" thing.
@beckyshaknovich7554

@@AnimalLover2400 I’m glad you have had a good experience! I’m definitely not trying to speak for all women or all Black women. I’m sorry my comment made it seem that way. Truly, I apologize. I’ll edit it. I find that other people love my natural hair now that I am an adult, but I can’t shake the negative feelings I developed about it as a kid! Even a few weeks ago, I tried wearing my natural texture to work. Most people loved it or didn’t say anything. One white man called it frizzy and asked some rude questions... and I straightened it when I got home ☹️ It’s more than the people around us. It’s coming from the culture at large, and becomes internalized for some people. There are other things that fall into the category of white supremacist beauty standards. The way people contour their faces to try to look a certain way. The way certain body shapes are given preferential treatment over others. Colorism. The way looser curl types are preferred on RU-vid, as described in this video. I think many of us women are impacted by one or some of these things throughout our lives. Do you agree? Things are getting better and changing now, but it’s still a problem. Also, now that beauty standards are changing, some white women are changing their bodies through surgery or other procedures, and they are getting praised for things that Black women have gotten negative reactions for in the past (think the Kardashians). That is not cool.

I just get really annoyed when people judge me for having curly hair. I am a white teen with 3a/ 3b curls (my hair is transitioning, i don't really know what's going on 🤣😂) lately I have decided to start looking after my hair and I've had some positive comments but also a lot of negative (sometimes not intentional). For example I had science one time and the teacher said that I could be sisters with another girl on the same row because we both had curly hair. The thing was that we didn't even have the same hair colour, type or texture we also look nothing alike. It just made us both feel very uncomfortable and upset. For example, u wouldn't say that to two people with straight hair would u? My dad is so annoying as well, every time he sees someone with curly hair he says it's me and then wonders why I get so annoyed. He just doesn't understand! It's honestly so rude though why would he say that? My friends can also be very frustrating. They say my hair would be nice if I looked after it and things like that. (I do look after my hair :/) And bulling at school... Yeah that's nice! Urm well what I can say is that when people through pieces of glue and paper in your hair because they know you won't be able to get it out it can make you really upset and make you feel like you have to have straight hair to fit in. I don't want to have straight hair though. I want curly hair but others don't seem to want me to 😔. What I'm trying to say is that I understand your situation completely I really don't think that people should be judged because their hair is curly.

I'm so happy that I came across this video... This is the first RU-vid video where there's so much positivity. I'm an asian naturally curly girl. However, no one knows how to take care of curly hair in that part of the world yet. I grew up being bullied for having curls. People have compared my hair to all sorts of things from dish washing sponges to bird nests and I always hated my hair texture. Now in my 30's I'm learning how to take care of my hair and love it's natural texture from all the beautiful women with even more beautiful hair on RU-vid. I'm so happy that I found this channel:)

Your make up looks gorgeous! That lip colour is perfect on you. I have the same mixed feelings on the curly/natural hair movement. It’s amazing that more people learn to take care of and accept their hair. When my hair suddenly went from straightish/2a hair to 2c/3a I suddenly had no idea how to take care of my hair anymore. You and other natural hair youtubers amongst curly hair youtubers helped me with finding products and taught me how to take care of my hair. I can’t be more grateful as my hair is the healthiest it’s ever been. But I do think it’s important that type 4 hair gets its own spotlight that isn’t taken over by type 2 and 3 hair. The whole BS that type 1 to 3 is somehow “better” needs to stop. Those types of beauty standards are damaging, especially to kids. We should be uplifting all hairtypes. Here in the Netherlands we have more actresses, tv presenters and politicians switch to wearing their type 4 hair natural. Hopefully that will also mean more (affordable) products branded and made for type 4 hair as well as more hairdressers knowing how to cut all types of curly/wavy hair.

THX💓💓 i am half columbian girl but i live in germany the most people have type 1 or 2a hair they just use shampoo brush it when dry and go to school I am of course not doing that but they dont understand when we have schooltrips the girls in my room often sas Things like: you are forcing your hair to be curly and i am like HELL NAH

The whole reason I found your channel was through trying to figure out my hair situation. I was really curious about hair products and such and ended up here. Love your videos, your energy and personality!! I'm still struggling to figure out how to keep my hair wavy/curly as it seems to go flat really quickly, but then you pointed out that less products helps with looser curl patterns... something I hadn't considered before so I will have to try out that and maybe washing my hair in a bowl like that one girl did.

Yes, the young woman who used her finger to curl her hair and than pinned it had me shook. The man at the end of correct, just because styling products are marketed to black women doesn't mean that white woman can't use them. I known and seen white women purchase products marketed to black women and they love it. And there are black women who use shampoos and conditioners marketed to white women. It was funny to hear white women asking that question. Enjoyed the video!

As a white woman with a mixture of type 3 curls, I very much appreciate this outro, and you touching on the racial dynamics of hair type throughout this video. I spent most of my life fighting my curls, then over a year with a pixie. I'm now full on in my hair journey, and would absolutely love a video diving deeper into the racial issues surrounding the curly hair movement. One of my most prevalent feelings about talking about my hair is not wanting to take away from people of color, especially black women, and not wanting to appropriate that culture. I know you don't speak for all black women, but I trust and respect your opinions on this matter and would love to hear more. As always, I love you videos and the positive vibes you give, while still staying real and true to yourself. ❤

I want to ask you if I had family that has curly hair (type 2C) but I have wavy hair shouldn't these products work to bring out my natural waves or is that specifically for curly hair types? I would always have wavy hair when coming out of the beach/ or other natural waters, same with different types of curly hair shampoos but my parents have always dismissed it and told me I just have straight poofy hair. I don't know what I should do.
