So she's sick in this concert and still pulled out an incredible performance. Floor is truly a consummate pro. Thanks for the reaction Chase, I'd never noticed that psycho bit! Slaying the Dreamer has a special place as the first Nightwish song I ever heard, courtesy of a piece of artwork I encountered on Elfwood (yes it was that long ago!) and I loved it. Racing off to get all their back catalogue. It wouldn't be until I went to uni and started meeting people who wanted to go to gigs that I got to see them live and I'd made my peace with never seeing slaying the dreamer live as it's a pretty obscure song on their back cat (compared to say Romanticide) . THEN they did the decades performance at Wembley and pulled this out. I went NUTS. It is SO good live and I was so happy to hear it. Husband was laughing his head off at me during the whole song because I was headbanging and bouncing like a loon.

"Fun"(or not so fun, rather) fact, back in the day when this was written, when Ewo, their manager, got to read the lyrics, he was seriously worried about Tuomas having kinda lost it and actually called him to ask whether he was okay or needed someone to talk about this. It's THE "pissed off Fairytale Floofball lastly exploded in a hellfire"-song. And still, for some reason, it's a composition, rather than a frenzy between the cooking pots.

Another older song from "Century Child" in 2002. Obviously a Tarja song. Quite an over the top ending. Always something different. Great job Chase. I think you are correct about the "Psycho" comment. Tuomas uses this dissonant stab technique in a few songs to create that "something about to happen" anticipatory vibe. He is extremely focused on creating anticipation and signaling changes to his compositions by using many different techniques. I feel this is why his musical arrangements create such emotionally moving soundscapes. Loved it as always my friend. I look forward to both your next one as well as the videos to come with Julia. Nightwish are so good to make other groupe members sound better. Tuomas magic there? Mabe. But the way the musician understand when to pull out and make room or elaborate/sustain/enhance for other parts of the song/instruments/voices is genius.

As a 17 year long and strong Nightwish fan who absolutely LOVES Floor and thinks she’s the best AND most versatile singer I’ve ever heard, I honestly think Floor started pretty rough on this song and got better as it went along....also please Forget “The Day That The World Breaks Down,” do “Everybody Dies” LIVE by Ayreon (unless you watched Tank’s reaction already cause it’ll lose something if you’ve seen it lol).
