After listening & trying to understand the title track "Circle", my impression is it is a autobiography of Onew's life. He has been throwing himself into his solo concerts and now his first album, to confidently demonstrate to himself and the world all his talent, skill and depth of Onew the person; like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon to reveal its splendour, we begin to see a new and more assured person.
Circle truly is a no-skip masterpiece! His Onew Note Beyond Live concert will re-stream next month, it really is worth a watch. There are so many fancams, I hope you find the Cold Dubu Sexy portion of the concert: Expectations, Beauty, And No Parachute. SHINeeWorld went INSANE especially with Expectation & its flirty choreo. Day 1 of the concert, the Shawols in the front row were just stunned staring at Jinki's sexy Beauty choreo. They literally were like statues staring at him while holding up their lightsticks,🤣! I'm telling you no one expected intense, sexy Jinki to show up, Jinggus ended up teasing him on Bubble and on his youtube live,🤣. Onew said he was involved in about every part of the making. He did pick the songs, his lyrics were declined lol. Also said this album is a style/songs he like. I think he doesn’t want to be put into one genre but ONEW IS THE GENRE. He is a singer so he will sing all types of genres and serve all kinds of vocals.

Loved your reaction ♡ When I listen to SHINee's music I always think "What is the style each member brings to the group?" After "Blue" I was pretty sure Onew was, like you said, the ballad guy. But Dice and Circle prove his style isn't a specific genre, it's a vibe: like a nostalgic vibe, peaceful and also playful. I think he finally found his thing and I'm super proud of SHINee as soloists. They had the opportunity to show their singularities as artists, I love them. Now, it's time to enjoy SHINee back ♡
also to answer your questions, he was pretty involved with this album way more than his previous ones, he did write songs but they weren't chosen for this album and most of the songs in the album are songs he personally requested & commissioned. He also mentioned that this album is the album close to his taste and what music he does like & listen to and that he wanted his 1st full album to reflect him
The music in the album is very Indie (indie as in Independent artist and not really genre per se) inspired which I absolutely love. Really I start at O Circle and end on Always. Just can't stop at the middle.

I'm a shawol, but I also didn't have any expectations for this album. I feel like the Highlight Medley didn't make it any justice, so when I listened to the first song I thought "oh, I like this song", then the second one "oh, I like this one too", then by the third and fourth song I was mostly sold 😂. It was so unexpected. I think this could definetly be Onew's best album (even though I love the 1st and 2nd mini album very much), it feels and sounds just like him. Onew is absolutely my bias wrecker 😍😂 (Taemin is my bias, but I love the 5 of them with my life of course 😊).
My understanding is Onew was very involved in making of this album and all that's followed. In his interview, he said this was more of an album showing the music he enjoys rather than music he can do. With each of his own album, I think he's finding his own voice more and more. This is my album of the year, I am convinced and I haven't stopped listening to it since it's release (even though I'm also waiting for V's album 🤣). I strongly recommend you watch his concert clips or performance ones, I have a feeling you'll appreciate the album a lot better, lol. By the way, maybe find another lyrics channel, the translation was so off.

I understand what you mean when you say the title song is going to a very specific playlist, it's not a song that I would listen in any situation, but it's very beautiful and artistic nevertheless. It gives me feelings of joy, comfort, but grief and melancholy too. I suppose that was the purpose, given the theme of the song, so to me it is spot on! I just love it. The whole album is amazing. Seems like Shinee members just keep getting better and better with time, they blow me away with every single release. When I hear ALWAYS for the first time, I don't know why Jonghyun and Onew's friendship photos and screen together flashes fastly through my mind. It's like Onew is telling a story about his friend and him. And then he is like telling to bling bling I will always remember you and be with you. It makes me happy and smile☺. Maybe is just me being a blinger and missing Jonghyun and Jongyu couple to much.😊 This album is great! Like you said I really like No Parachute too, when the highlight video came out. Now I really like Cough, No Parachute, Expectations and Always🥰.
Totally agree! I had Jonghyun on my mind as i was listening to the whole album. I think he would enjoy it because of the type of production: it's very intimate, with poetry, soul/indie pop, just like J loved to do. Onew might be his favorite artist these days and this idea warms my heart ♡
I swear if this song doesn't get a music award by the end of the year, it really is "OUTRAGEOUS" or nonsense. this is "MASTERPIECE". it doesn't need the "popularity" of the singer to catch someone's attention, like a singer who only "sells" her name because the group is popular. interesting, if you watch the mv, there is one scene where the cellphone screen is full of blood getting the message "I'm fine" it makes me shed tears, I know you guys will understand what I mean, I mean, when your best friend asks how you are via text message, " are you okay" then you Answer "I'm fine" while the phone screen is full of blood. OMG gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes without me knowing it. I highly recommend this album. Seriously !!!
Unless your new to KPOP, everyone knows the awards are all bs at this point. . its just based on the "Popularity" by fans no matter how talented the singer are, you cant beat the rigged votings no matter what especially at this point of time. Onew is still one of best/unique vocalist even now but just overshadowed. As a fanboy of SHInee to this day since Replay days, I dont care about these awards no more since SHINee already establish WHO SHINee ARE & I just pray they are happy & enjoying their release songs including the fans. I'm really happy that each members has realease a songs/album that are beautiful & amazing. LOL I didnt even know the album was released today so I was just surprised to hear Onew voice singing in the background since I had autoplay on lol Just Beautiful ! !

In the Whale is actually related to this song. There are many symbolisms of reincarnation and eternity here, the dung-beetle is a symboo.of reincarnationfeternity in ancient Egipt & other cultures, also in Asia the heron represents it. The circle is a cycle of life-death-life-death... In the whale is related to the Bible story of Jonah inside the whale (he sings it like he is inside the whale). Jonah died, spent 3 days inside the whale and came back to life and out of the whale. Jesus said he would die and come back after 3 days just like Jonah did. It is a symbol of resucitation-reincarnation-eternity... Also that tunel that looks like the inside of the whale, looks like an uterus, so it could have the meaning of being born, coming to life. While the set with the door and the ladder (like in The Truman Show film) also represents death and reincarnation, as in going to another life, a "real" one, a different place...
Idk why but I feel like this album really melds well together with RM’s Indigo! Whenever I first listen to an album my mind always goes “Oh where have I felt this feeling before?”. It’s like when I first listened to Nayeon’s Pop! album and thought of Dice. I really enjoyed this album and has a nice mix of rain/ melancholy & retro pop (that I also will never get tired of) type of songs. Thanks for reacting!!! ❤
