Reacting to Peter Hickman's Isle Of Man TT Demo Lap  

This wasn't race speed he's just having fun on a relaxed practice lap. Course has a lot of crests and bumps that will easily assist torque wheelies even in the higher gear. Edit "piss cup" is front brake fluid container.

This was his demo lap. He was doing wheelies for fun and having a good time. Think somewhere he stated that his overall time on this was about 80% of his actual time. Agree you need to check out his onboard lap record and Irish Road Racing. Both are great to watch.

The average speed of this lap was approximately 118mph but peters record is approximately 136mph on the full lap, this was just child’s play to Peter… Great reaction yet again 😄👍

The little pee cup on the right is the brake fluid reservoir, Hickman was clocked at doing 218 mph, as the top speed ever recorded at the TT. It's an amazing spectacle, I have family at Port Erin on the island, I've seen the race several years.

He looked at his foot to see if he could see any oil on the boot.

Also check out Road warriors Irish Road Racing . They are mass starts not a time trial. So a lot more close racing . They also run in the rain ,unlike the TT .

This demo lap took place in the evening after one of the sidecar races, and the yellow flag was being waved cause there was a broken-down sidecar outfit on the left-hand side, waiting to be recovered.

The 'piss cup' is the front brake fluid reservoir 😂 This lap was 2 minutes slower than the lap record, I can't imagine what the lap record lap looked like! I don't think he's wheelieing as much as you think. Because he's wearing a chin camera, when he scoots back on the seat and dips his head down for better aerodynamics, it looks like the handlebars are coming up as if wheelieing. He is wheelieing more than he want to because of the power and the bumps on the road, but that is all part of the TT course. A lot of riders use a thumb rear brake to use to help stop the bike wheelieing. They can keep the throttle pinned and just dab it bring the front wheel down without losing too much speed. That last little 'hairpin' section of the lap that you liked, is the only section of road that is closed to the public and only used for the races, hence it is really slippery in there, so riders go through there very cautiously.

This lap was two minutes slower than a race lap

I used to have a KTM superbike, the RC8R, and even just out on the road with regular tires, regular engine mapping, it was mind-bending how much power she put out. Then out on the track, road bits removed, slicks on, mapping and tuning....... not something I can put into words 🤯

Hi, wheelies do slow you down but as others have stated this was not the fastest lap this was a demo/show lap and the holder on the handlebars is for the front brake fluid, his fastest lap is another video

Good reaction thanks, this demo lap would be even better if viewed through a VR headset, he was looking at his foot because he thought he had an oil leak, this was the latest he had been out for a lap hence the sun problems. Take care.

In the description he describes everything about the lap. The majority of wheelies was him having fun. They were on purpose. This is the second of of 2 demo laps. When the pros are not on the track practicing or racing the public is allowed to go onto the circuit and ride with no speed limits.

This was just a demo lap as other people have said . He’s averaging about 120 mph on this lap last year he averaged 136+ mph . A new lap record . It’s on You tube mind blowing stuff . Peter is just having fun you can see him look to his left at 20.08 at his shadow as he’s wheeling going over the mountain .😎🏍️

Talking about wheelies, according team analytics the front wheel is in the air for about 2 miles every circuit

The track is well maintained and sections are resurfaced when required. There are some (e.g. Ginger Hall) that are in good condition but still bumpy. They won’t be changing that anytime soon because it’ll become a different track.

The bit where he stays up against the rev limiter is Sulby Straight. You would have to go to a salt flat to hear a superbike WFO, in top, for longer.

The mental focus that you MUST have with no room at all for error must be exhausting. One lap,and I’d be done. Balls AND brains of steel.

Didn't you watch Peter Hickman explain about this lap at the beginning,?, as this isn't his record lap, this was a demonstration lap, he wasn't even trying on this lap, most of the time he was pulling wheelies on purpose just for the fans.

I guess in the end of this demo lap he still have a good front tire because the front wheel was 90% of the ground the entire lap😅

An interesting thing that virtually all car guys (and even quite a few bike guys) don't know, is these liter bikes all do well over 100mph in first gear, right off the showroom floor. When it looks like he is going slower and the gear indicator is showing any number over 1, it kinda sends a shiver up my spine to think about that. We've all pulled into a small town after being on the highway for a while, and you think you are about to fall over you're going so slow, only to look down at your speedo to see you are still doing like 60, lol. I can't even image how slow 100 feels after doing over 200...

Looks like the front wheel only made contact with the road 25% of the time.

This was not his record breaking lap it was a demonstration lap done one evening. Since this video has been made there is a video of his record breaking lap in 2023, average speed, yes average speed of 136plus mph.

people travel to this island to watch the race for 2 weeks, don't you think they would wanna watch any lap they can, the race goes through 4 towns and most of the island

My first experience of the IOM TT was in a simulator with a slippy bench seat. We got tossed about like a pea in a can lmao😂 Been hooked on it ever since Im hoping the likes of Redbull will make a full VR video

you are dead right ! the bikes do wheelie a lot but it is mostly down to the bumps on the road and the fact that they are only geared for a 230 mile per hour top speed !!!!

Yeah muscle memory they don't need to see They know exactly where they are on track and where they need to be To make the next corner as their got markers they use could be a certain tree a line on the road Many things so they know have to break or lean the bike they way they need to go Also your eye's filter the light better as well With camera you can't pick out objects but you eye's can even in blinding light But definitely not easy these guys are season riders been around the course hundreds of times Thats why they race later in the day Their like all sport people at the peak of their game unbelievable skilled Cheers mat3 🦘🇦🇺👍
