Leonard Rossiter was a great actor. There's another brilliant 1970's tv show he starred in called The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.

Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin was great in the 70's, but unlike Rising Damp, it has not aged well.

I didn't get where I am today by writing comments under RU-vid videos..

There was definitely a few instances of double entendre in that episode 😉.

Leonard Rossiter appeared in two Stanley Kubrick films: 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and BARRY LYNDON. This October will be the 40th anniversary of his passing of a heart attack at the age of 58: ironically his co-star Richard Beckinsale who plays Alan, and father of Kate Beckinsale - also sadly died of the same cause five years earlier in 1979, just before RISING DAMP came to an end. Two great stars of this classic comedy series who left us too soon.

I don't remember him being in Space Odessey but in fairness it's been 50 plus years since I saw it... When it was first released 69 was it? Not seen it since then at the cinema

A point of interest for you, Megan, the young actress who played Brenda was Canadian actress Gabrielle Rose.

I was going to say the same thing. I looked her up years ago because I thought she was beguiling. Yes, I'm a sad bloke.

The ‘quite firm’ was an ad-lib by Leonard Rossiter. It got such a big laugh, they left it in.

In my top 3 comedy series of all time. As a young child in the 1970's I didn't get a lot of the humour but thought it so cool that Alan had a skeleton in his room and wanted one myself.

I’m sure the “quite firm” comment was ad libbed.

Yes, he touched Gabrielle by accident. She gave him a little elbow, but in those days they just carried on

Grey lady ghosts are a part of English folklore. JK Rowling doesn't search far for ideas.

Funny you should mention the exercise/exorcise homonym, only this week I wrote a poem playing on both in the same line (in reference to the exercise of scientific method exorcising religious belief).

The obvious factor in the acting of these comedy parts is that this was still a generation that paid their dues on stage. And there was no pot of gold necessarily at the end of it. If you were sufficiently good then it paid off.

For me, one of the funniest episodes of any comedy in the history of comedy. I'm also a paranormal investigator and I'm also less inclined to believe in ghosts but more inclined to believe in other paranormal phenomena.

😊😊😊😊😊 ,Great, the scriptwriting was brilliant ,there has to be a little double entendre in any British comedy show ,it was a little more subtle at times back then, thanks Megan ❤❤.

A rare ad-lib from the usual perfctionist Rossiter, the other 2 could hardly hold it together for the scene.

There are said to be at least seven ghosts called The Grey Lady in the world. Three of them in England, one in Ireland, one in the US, one in Malta and one in New Zealand.

If you go into the trenches at Ypres ( WW1) Sanctuary Wood you would know. Lots of us British military - just been to Waterloo. Had a few beers laughing. Went to Sanctuary Wood and even the loudest gobshiitte went quiet. The wood was the highest ground so the Germans and allies fought over it constantly This was back in the 80's. Belive it has been cleared up a bit But then as you walked through the trenches you couls see the rusty old barbed wire, bits of helmet and even the remains of weapons. Very sobering The museum and the photographs were horrific. I definitely believe certain places have a certain feeling ❤

Great reaction. Please react to Rising Damp “Stage Struck” it’s so funny, I think it’s one of the best in the series. 😊

I think Megan Ruth is methodically doing the episodes in strict date order. But there isn't long to go until "Stage Struck" comes around anyway. It's possibly my favourite episode too, with the peerless Peter Bowles.

It's hard to believe that the gorgeous hot sexy Kate Beckinsale is Richards daughter.. Mind you her mother Judy Loe was quite a hottie in the 70s
