I'm currently in the information gathering phase to file my first claim. So for the past 2 months I've just been watching a TON of videos but Clay and Jason provides the most relevent information and have been trying to watch all of their videos. I would agree with the first and second tip but not the third. The process seems simple, #1- Determine your disability by looking in 38CFR, #2 - Get a diagnosis, #3 - Gather medical evidence to support your diagnosis. It seems that the veteran is responsible for all of those steps and the VSO just files it. So why not file it yourself on the VA website. In preparing for the C&P exam, get the DBQ from the VA website so you basically know what happens in the exam.I guess I will see how this plan works out.

Same boat as you but going the VSO route because they can see behind the curtain. Had my first meeting with my VSO rep this week and she relatively is new to her role being 6 months in so she is just now seeing veterans getting their ratings from when she started. My hope was getting someone that was around for a while to see how claims typically panned out based on the evidence that was provided. She is competent though so sticking with it.

My VSO: after submitting my STR they recommended what to file for (huge help, since I had no idea at that time), but since then: they are NON existing... whatevv. I will use them once I see denials and need to leverage them to peak behind the curtain

Makes total sense and to be honest, I would end up filing all of my claims except the 1st claim by myself. I personally recommend veterans use VSOs to help submit and to advocate on your behalf but…if you’re able to submit by yourself through VA.gov and are confident through the process, then go for it. No better advocate than veteran themself. - Clay

I was ABSURDLY prepared for my mental health C&P from these guys. Just had my exam 2 days ago (19 SEP). Went exceptionally well, and largely from CivDiv and Combat Craig.

I totally agree with you. Because I had a bad experience with a bad VSO officer I made a major mistake by not educating myself. She made me feel like I was wasting her time and was deflecting everything back on me. I was so angry I just gave up.

I don’t need no VSO. I started my journey in the beginning of the year at 20% looked through my file and now I am up to 91%. Working through my last four points. Until I am properly rated at 100%.

I just recently finished my first group of clains with a new VSO . I was service connected for 5 conditions. And denied for several. Most I believe will go as seconday claims. Ask everyone you know about a VSO Before you choose one. Have a appointment on Tuesday with a highly recommended VSO.

Could we get a walkthrough on associating evidence with our claims? What details should we look at and look for? What details should we document and in what format so that there is no question?
@fireice6228
@fireice6228 2 дня назад
The claim is not the problem. It's the wait for them to either approve it or deny it. Shouldn't take over five years to make a decision if there is a Nexus and medical records confirming the claim. Again it's the lazy workers not doing the right thing. Not all of the workers are lazy, but there is a lot like that, unfortunately.

We still fail to address the blatant "racism" in VA claims. The process is undoubtedly troubled and nuanced, but injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Please use your influential platform to address "racism" as it applies to VA claims approval versus denials. VA has already acknowledged that it is true. Where is everyone else on this subject?

If you ca direct me somewhere that describes this, absolutely. I’m aware of the case but we will have to see the outcome. - Clay

@@jessemurden5739 I thought I was the only one thinking about that very trouble some issue. I never said it out loud but kiddos to you for having the courage to bring this to topic to the floor. 💯

@@TheCivDiv I only ask that the subject of any iota of any injustice during the claims process be addressed. Thus far, no mention of this has occurred on your influential platform. The subject of vets defrauding VA is addressed but no mention of how " the green brothers and sisters" are being defrauded with this radical and racist practice.

@@jaycarpenter9116 I am truly thankful for the hard work put in for fellow veterans but the road might be easier if we approach with the benefit of inclusion without sweeping this under the rug. VA does well to adhere to the equipoise that this discrimination is 'at least as like as not" and respond favorably.
@TheCivDiv

@@jessemurden5739 and I will, but hearsay on that topic won’t be good. I need evidence. We know of the court case that was accepted with this issue and I think we’ll have to wait for that outcome before saying anything that carries weight. Unless there is something already in the public that would do the same. I am friends with a retired SES that oversaw the policy programs for marginalized veteran populations and even then…I don’t know of any hardcore proof without playing the blame game. - Clay

How would I submit a claim for increased urinary frequency due to prescribed hypertension medications? I’m rated 0% for hypertension.

I can’t even file for intent because they have my name wrong. Someone misspelled my middle name… which is probably no big deal but I refuse to have any records that aren’t in my full legal name
