Mudd's passion was funny as hell, still is. The thing about many of the episodes of the animated series is that you can easily see them as live action episodes of the original series.

PS: Did you know that The Terratin Incident was written by series veteran Paul Schnider, who also wrote the episodes Balance of Terror & The Squire of Gothos. I look forward to your future reactions! ❤️

Great reaction today! FUN FACT: M'Ress, Nurse Chapel, as well as the Enterprise's computer, are all voiced by Majel Barrett. I can't wait for your future reactions! ❤

The idea that the crew would still weigh the same despite being shrunk down would mean they would also become more dense. When Sulu fell, he should not have broken a leg, but he sure would have put a dent in the deck. And Chapel falling into water should have meant that she dropped like a stone to the bottom of the tank. It isn't made clear why Kirk needed to engage the ship's phasers in order to beam up the Terratin city. Foster's novelization of this episode says he was cutting the city away from the rock it was built upon. But surely we've seen enough of how the transporter works to know this step wasn't necessary. When a landing party is beamed back, do they bring the part of the planet they were standing on with them? Though never revealed in any episode, Lt. M'Ress is a Caitian. Foster gives us a lot more background on her in his _Star Trek Logs_ series. Both Arex and M'Ress occasionally appear in Trek comics, and in some of the Pocket Books TOS novels.

Indeed, we have to handwave a lot of stuff in Star Trek. Starting with FTL travel 🙂In the book The Physics of Star Trek by physicist Dr. Lawrence Krauss, he explains that the transporter, as described in TOS and TNG, is basically impossible; too many atoms to account for, no way to move them through solid matter, etc. etc. 😃 Stephen Baxter's book Ark is better in that regard. It's Hard SF in every respect except the creation of an alcubierre warp drive. The ship still has to spin to simulate gravity, because it's the spacetime around the ship that's moving, and nobody on the ship feels an acceleration. Highly recommend that book. Baxter has a Ph.D. in mathematics 🙂

Once Upon a Planet is the nicest retelling of Shore Leave. With a few changes including Lt Arex & Lt M'ess. Courtney ,I enjoy your reactions & insight. You have ascended to finding key components of each episode. Harry Mudd is the best guest character of Star Trek. His reaction to finding out the love potion works was priceless!! The Terratin Incident could have made an interesting episode. The Time Trap had many guest appearances and a Star Trek ending. Thank you for bringing Sunday smiles.

M'Ress is Caitian and as you can see they are descended from the Lions that were Cait's or as the Caitians call their planet Ferasa's highest life-form.

Love your reactions to the animated series Courtney. It was my favorite cartoon in 1973 when it first aired through its creators/producers the Filmways Norway Corporation. Most of the cast reprised their voices, plus did other characters. George Takei, Nichelle Nicholls and James Doohan voiced over other characters in a few different episodes. Looking forward to your next review! 😊

Courtney, you may enjoy the novel Uhura's Song. Uhura is the main character, and it's set on a planet of cat people. I think it is M'ress's planet. Anyway, it's an interesting read.

I was glad to see that they brought back both Captains Koloth and Kor in the animated series. Remember Kor from "Errand of Mercy"? You'd think would not have challenged the Organian Peace Treaty after being a party to it. Have you checked out the original series' blooper reel? It's available on RU-vid. It's copies of copies from the original film, so the quality isn't great, but at least in a digital medium the decay is arrested.

Great episodes....the Terratin Incident is another great example of one that's much easier to do with animation! (although it could be done using live action with modern CGI.) They had sort of a retelling of that (in some respects) in a certain episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and there was re-telling of The Time Trap in Star Trek: Voyager. You've seen so much Star Trek! Yet barely scratched the surface. Well, I'm here with you for the whole thing! 🙂

Look at you rattling off all the names of those Star Trek aliens like you've been watching it for years! I'm impressed that you got through eight episodes in just two days! Ever since the Salt Vampire appeared in "The Man Trap," I've always been most interested in aliens that looked alien. I think those are the the most memorable. It's no coincidence that Andorians and Tellarites (the most alien aliens in "Journey to Babel") were identified by fans as two of the founding species of the Federation (along with humans and Vulcans) long before that detail became "canon." So I get where you're coming from when you identify "The Time Trap" as your favorite of these four episodes due to seeing all these familiar distinct aliens together. Lt. M'Ress, the Caitian communications officer (voiced by Majel Barrett) and Lt. Arex, the Edosian navigator (James Doohan) were instantly two of my favorite characters in the animated series for the same reason: they showed that the Federation wasn't made up of aliens who looked almost human. Harry Mudd was originally intended to be a more-commonly recurring character. Roger C. Carmel voiced the character again here, but he was unavailable to film a proposed third episode of the original series called "Deep Mudd" (a script which bears no resemblance to "Mudd's Passion") so they scrapped the idea. I always suspected that his "love potion" was a failed attempt at a synthetic version of Elaasian tears. Hope Scotty is a cat person (or a furry fan). Star Trek is guilty of "recycling" plot elements often enough, as you pointed out. The "Terratin Incident" is full of scientific mistakes, but still an original idea. The Prime Directive doesn't apply to the Terratins since they're human colonists from earth, not an alien civilization.

The voice of the Green Elysian was Uhuru After this, or some time, you might really enjoy the greatest Saturday morning cartoon of the 1960s, the original JONNY QUEST!!

@LesterManley-s9n Месяц назад
@@perrymalcolm3802 Jonny Quest originally aired in Prime-Time(early evenings)like the original Flintstones and Jetsons. They only started playing on Saturday Mornings in syndication. That being said Jonny Quest was, IMHA, the greatest animated adventure series ever made. Just watch the opening credits and you'll know I'm 100 percent right. Well, maybe 99.9 percent right. It only lasted one year at 26 1/2 hour episodes, just like the original Jetsons.

in PLANET everyone seems to notice Dr. McCoy seems to have 'every' substance in the galaxy in his small medi-kit. This is one of the episodes that doesn't jive with Canon. In Shoreleave there was no indication that The Keeper was the 'last of his race' and spoke of his own people in 'present tense'. Still a fine episode. Alice on Wonderland is touched on again as a book Micheal Burman's adopted mother Amanda read to her as a child. Told everyone TAS would be sighted in future trek.

Excellent reaction marvelous work there’s a few few people who give credit to any of the animated series, even though it just so much Star Trek and anything else it’s just a cartoon that only difference the voices is the same. The writers are the same. The rest of the mission don’t count it, and there’s two shows they created by members of the original crew actors families called Star Trek continues and and Star Trek new voyages between the animated series and those two series that completes the five year mission of the original enterprise. The mission was completed, not seen by many people you see after downstairs was finished. They always plan on doing a sequel series called Star Trek phase 2 but then after Star Wars came out Paramount wanted to know what can we compete with Star Wars with so we can do Star Trek we have a new show coming out no let’s do a movie instead they said so they canceled the idea for phase 2, and the movie motion picture, but the scripts were still there already done. Finished ready to go whole seasons of stories were finished, so when that ended, they took the scripts away and people found them and how they made the starter continues and Star Trek voyages made phase 2 the actual Star Trek not seen before as a matter fact season one and season two of TN the next generation mostly faced two scripts because there was a writer strike during the beginning of next generation Star Trek, we do to bring Star Trek back to war bring back phase 2, but instead of phase 2 didn’t next generation with a whole new cast thanks for the fun until next time.

In the Terratin Incident, as they shrunk, they should have reduced the artificial gravity on the Enterprise so that they could jump and climb higher and fall farther without injury.
@megalictis9002
@megalictis9002 Месяц назад
Sulu shouldn't have been injures falling from the helm control for the same reason that a mouse isn't injured jumping off a table.
@luminiferous1960
@luminiferous1960 Месяц назад
@@megalictis9002 Sulu and a mouse falling from the same height in this situation are not comparable. They said when they discovered they were shrinking that although they are getting smaller, they have the same mass. Thus, when Sulu is the same size as a mouse, his mass (about 70 kg) is many times greater than the mass of a mouse (about 0.03 kg). Since Force = mass times acceleration, Sulu will land with a much greater force than will a mouse when falling from helm control because they would both have the same acceleration, but Sulu would have a much larger mass. If Sulu were his normal size, then his leg may not break in such a fall, but it may when he is much smaller because the same force is distributed over a smaller area, i.e., the pressure (force divided by area) on his leg is much higher when the same force is distributed over a much smaller area. This, however, may be compensated to some degree by the increased density of Sulu's bones since they have the same mass in a much smaller volume. I do not know if the increase in bone density would or would not fully compensate for the increase in pressure on the bone from the fall when Sulu is small to prevent his leg from breaking. Even if the increase in their density does prevent them from being injured in such falls, they should still turn down or turn off the artificial gravity because at some small size the pressure that one of them would exert on the floor in such a fall will be so great that they would puncture a hole in the floor, and then through all the subsequent floors and eventually the ship's hull.

Thanks for recognizing Majel Barrett's contributions to Star Trek Tos. She was the only other female crew member seen in Tos from start to finish and people tend to 'forget' nurse chappel in cast pics because of her relationship, to put it poorly, to Gene Roddenberry. Still she was there. now wokey wokes are trying erase or 'cancel' her. Their son Eugene Roddenberry should threaten Legal Action if this situation is allowed to continue. Not so much against RU-vidrs but the people putting out photos that come straight from Paramount/Fox. Remember they tried canceling William Shatner for just being white, straight, and for loving the ladies. So taking the moral high ground with Barret is very hypocritical.

Continuity plothole in episode 12. Scotty said," There's the old Bon-Avenger, she was the first ship to have Warp Drive installed." WRONG !!! Scotty should have known that the first ship with Warp Drive was Zephran Cochran's ship, The Phoenix. In all fairness that established canon was not established until the 1994 movie Star Trek Generations. Someone at Paramount should have done their homework.
