Reacting to Stray Kids 『CIRCUS』 Music Video 스트레이 키즈 

My interpretation. This is about the k pop industry. IT'S A CIRCUS. The boys entered unconventionally through the back door so to speak. They observed what was going on so they could improve. You can see the guys In black where the original K-POP artists. They were performing but were also lacking that extra something. The boys came up slowly and Prepared themselves and you can see that when they performed they gave One hundred and ten percent. The other Idols wanted to know their secret and they threw the matches to the Seungmin in black. The matches said STAY. STAY is their secret weapon and with STAY, they have made the K-POP industry explode into the international scene. Welcome to their home, their Circus of performers.

There is actually three versions here. One set is only an observer. The set in blue are there just to witness the actions of the other two. And make a little commentary. But they don't interact with the others. The first set we see are the black & white set. They have a bit of clown makeup, and are seen sneaking into the circus. We can assume these are the ones who are dimension/universe hopping. The other main set is the ones in black & brown. They are this dimensions/universes set. They are employed by the circus. So. We see the B&W version sneak in to watch their counterparts perform. But they realize that the B&B version are just going through the motions. They seem kinda robotic in their performance. They seem to lack a certain spark. So they set out to show them what they are missing. After the show ends, the B&W versions set up a show. While they are, the B&B version Seungmin comes back for a microphone & sees them. He calls the other B&B versions to come see. As they watch the performance, they seem to wonder how the B&W versions are so happy to perform. This is when the B&W Seungmin gives the B&B Seungmin the matches called STAY. That is the spark they lost. The B&B versions had forgotten why they were doing what they do. They lost their spark. And the B&W versions reminded them & lit the fuse. It ends with both versions enjoying the chaos unleashed. The final line ups (with a bit of shuffling) mirror each other. They go from Han to I.N on the B&W side to the opposite on the B&B side. Parallel but different.

Circus is one of my favorite songs and MV because it's so fun and catchy! Their outfits are also insane in this one

I think “different” is their creed. They take inspiration from other artists/musicians, but they create their own ALL THE TIME. And that makes every album/mini-album release exciting bc we never know what they will be throwing out at Stays, but we KNOW we will be entertained.

I love how fun this song is and just how well the video fits the vibe and music. Even without the video, song title, the music is def circus vibes. I find their song "Charmer" to be the same way...you listen to the song and you just think "snake charmer"

If you go back and watch the whole M/V again, you'll see that both sets of Stray Kids (the ones in all black, and the ones that had the black/white checkerboard pattern) were in the video throughout. The ones with the black/white checkerboard pattern were the ones that snuck into the circus. The ones in all black were performers in the circus. @<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="263">4:23</a> you can see the ones in all black performing in the ring, and the ones in the checkerboard pattern are watching them from a hidden spot in the room.

You are correct about the lore! Even in Hellavator (which is much more subtle) you can see multiple versions of the Kids. The "Stray Kids Hot Megaverse" has been a running theme and plot point through a large amount of their music videos from the very beginning. It can get super complicated and confusing, with so many theories of what all has happened... because the Kids won't come right out and tell us. 😂

One of the things that I love about 3Racha production is they have brought dynamic motion back into music. My husband and I tend to get into conversations about music theory and his reference points always go back to Pink Floyd and how they had full album concepts and story and the music was dynamic. I really think this is something that Stray Kids has done well and why so many people are drawn to them. They sample, they experiment, they dial it back, they dial it up. They make (or are trying to branch out into) longer forms of film and doing music scores. So much talent wrapped up in this group, and that includes the people behind the scenes.

Yes, I believe the Japanese tracks are connected to the lore, kinda like a sub plot, but I haven't gotten deeply into it so I don't really understand it yet.....one day!

I knew you would enjoy Circus. You really like it when SKZ does things that are kind of out of the box (so do I 😁) and I especially really enjoy their Japanese title tracks because it's always a different vibe, but still very much Stray Kids. They really try to cater to the expectations and themes of the Japanese market and their Japanese fans, but still stay true to their Stray Kids sound. It's wonderful.

I swear the lore is in every single MV...even if a minor one like a single key or compass. The clown is very similar to LaLaLaLa also and also noticed the other day I think the big white blocks in Lalalala are a representation of the ones in Side Effects...but I could be wrong and reaching lol

Just remember there is a Stray Kids Lore (clones). There is two sets of Stray Kids. You have to pay attention closely.

This is one of my absolute favorite stray kids songs and I have so many. Their Japanese title tracks just hit so different. Absolutely love it. Seungmin’s bridge just makes me ascend. 😆 You were very correct in your assessment, it is different and that’s why we keep coming back. If it were more of the same, well it wouldn’t be different. 😉😏🤭

Yes, this plot originates from the very beginning, meaning the stray kids megaverse and runs through a lot of content. Clips that seem unrelated to each other, skz-flix, Korean and Japanese releases.. It's very exciting to watch guys from different universes communicate and not understand what it means (LOL) In the title track of last year's Japanese album, The sound, the plot also takes place in two universes, you should check it out too) Thanks for the neon reaction! This is definitely one of their most popular Japanese songs. I first discovered it when I discovered their TikTok where they did videos to the chorus.

Every track is just Stray Kids showing off and Circus doesn't disappoint. It really is brilliant. I mean, come ON. WHISPER RAP?!? The choreo is so much fun! This was released on their Japanese EP Circus in spring of 2022. Fairytale, Your Eyes, and Fam (Japanese ver) were all on that EP. Felix was sporting the black hair during that drop and Maniac tour He really rocked it.

Back Door is a real bass played with a plectrum, and this one is 100% synth, but both have a "funky" rhythm with very short notes, syncopated pattern, and a kinda hollow sound that gives me P-bass vibes 😊 Argh, now I want to go transcribe both basslines to compare the patterns 🙄🙈 look what you've done!! thanks for reaction! I think Circus was released between Oddinary (Maniac) and Maxident (Case 143), so summer of 2022. Actually, Felix still had black hair for Case 143, which was released in October 2022, you must have forgotten :) his hair was very damaged, so he had to let it stay unbleached for some time to recover a bit. he still has black hair for the next Japanese release with "the sound" (January 2023) and finally dyes them again for 5-star ("s class") released in June 2023. But it's true, seeing him with dark hair is very unusual! in this MV we see the black and red version of SKZ perform in the circus and the black and white version sneak in, watch the other version perform, secretly practice in the night when everyone is gone, but in the end both versions meet and unite. I don't know what it all means, but in the earlier Japanese MV - for the song "all in" - we also have 2 versions: one robs the bank and the other is police trying to catch the robbers and people were pointing out hints saying those MVs are connected. But I don't remember any details any more XD
