Reacting to Stray Kids "You Can STAY, Haven,  

Some context for you: You Can STAY features clips from their first concert as 8. It was, as I'm sure you know, a very hard time for them and they weren't sure if their fans would stick with them. The clips of them crying was their ending ment, and Hyunjin full on broke down, begging them not to leave them. It's heavy. Haven was written by Bang Chan and it was a song he really wanted to sing with Stay at concerts. It's one of their encore songs. Haven was also considered for the fandom name! LoveSTAY is incredibly meaningful for Stay. Hyunjin used that hashtag with every Instagram post. When he went on his hiatus, other members started using it in subtle ways, as a way to let fans know that Hyunjin is still very much part of the group and that they know how much we miss him. I think he wrote this as a way to thank the fans for sticking by them since 2021 was a rough year. Also, August 1 is Stay's birthday!

Most of #LoveSTAY was written while Hyunjin was in Hiatus, the song is written by Hyunjin, Jeongin and Felix and it’s a very special song for all the fandom and also for stray kids cause it reminds us of the hard times on that era but ofc stay and stray kids will be together forever no matter what. Also Haven is used as an encore song for concerts and if you could search and hear stays singing Haven on concerts you will see how beautiful it is.

‘haven’ along with ‘star lost’ are usually sang last to end their concerts! also, 12:28 it was changbin singing; lyric videos can be very off for example this one got hyunjin/seungmin/chan’s parts mixed a lot but they aren’t usually this bad😅 once you’ve been into skz for a while anyway its very easy to recognise the members voices despite lyric vids 🩷 alsooo fun fact - in the lovestay vid the lyrics on the screen are written in the members’ handwriting

there's actually like a behind the scenes video/skit where they're in the office and come up with the idea for the haven mv :) They edited it themselves actually! the video is called 'Stray Kids STAY 2nd Anniversary 오피슼 Special Video for STAY' and is like 20 minutes Also I agree with your take on their vocals! fun fact: Seungmin and I.N (and now lee know and han as well) went outside of JYPe and found new vocal coaches! Its the same coach that trained Baekhyun from EXO! I hear so much improvement ever since they started taking up lessons and theyve talked about how much theyve learned. Han recently said he's been working on changing/finding his tone so im super excited for that!

I really enjoyed this video! The live stream they did today was quintessential Stray Kids- meaning it was a hot mess, but very cute and sweet at the same time. I totally get what you mean about picking a favorite vocalist in Stray Kids. I’m pretty sure mine is Lee Know, but it’s the thing where I can’t tell if I like his voice because he is my bias or if he is my bias because I like his voice. He definitely has my favorite falsetto and I love when he belts too, also when he does lines where he kind of yells/growls(?) lol, ALSO when he is just singing with a full warm voice… so, yeah, Lee Know is definitely my favorite vocalist, but also every time I hear Seungmin open his mouth and sing (especially if it’s impromptu, acapella, acoustic, or just a more laid back setting) I want to personally hand him a $5 bill for the service he is doing for my ears. Honestly, there is so much to love about all 8 of their voices. I’m older too, so I totally understand your initial cynicism for lyrics that talk about ‘doing whatever you want’ and ‘running away’ lol. Your explanation of how 'Time Out' describes taking a break mentally summarized the meaning well. I'm a lyrics person, so here's some additional analysis that you might find interesting- The general sentiment of most of SKZ' fan songs is Stray Kids telling STAY that we are somewhere they can escape to, put down their burdens, rest, gather strength, etc. and inviting us to do the same with them in return. In the songs 'You can STAY' and '#LoveSTAY' they use metaphors including STAY hugging them, holding their hand, and letting them lean on their shoulder to describe how they feel supported by STAY (and describe how they will support STAY in return). For the songs 'Haven' and 'Time Out' they use the metaphor of letting go of everything and running away together to describe a mental escape (like you mentioned), which is why it can happen anytime and anywhere (even if it’s just in the form listening to their music on the way to work). However, the lyrics for ‘Haven’ also make me think of concerts specifically, as well as 'Waiting For Us’ (a subunit song that was written towards the end of COVID lockdown). Fun fact- 3RACHA took inspiration for 'Time Out' from a trip to Gangwon-do that the members did together. I think once you listen to more of their discography and watch the album intros, you’ll be able to appreciate the lyrics even more with the added context. One of the themes throughout their music is their burdens/anxieties, including not being able to rest even when they have ‘free time’ because they can’t rest mentally and feel compelled to keep working. An example is the song ‘Sunshine’ (on the Levanter album, but doesn’t have a video) that Han specifically wrote for ‘people like him’ who can never take a break (mentally). The song describes an imaginary perfect day where he has no obligations AND is able to let go of complicated thoughts/worries. One of the lyrics is ‘do whatever you want’ so you can kind of see how the themes are connected. I never know how to make my comments less long-winded, so I hope you found it even a little bit interesting lol.

Yeah there was definitely a lot of errors in the Haven lyric vid but the Changbin part you asked about was actually correct. (: and the high notes at the end were indeed Han, he does them when they perform this live as well.

20:29 On the papers it says "Stay" + "뭘해도 난 괜찮아" (which is read as "Mwolhaedo nan gwaenchana") If you pay attention you will notice that it is the lyrics of the song, which means something like "no matter what, I'm fine" English is not my first language, sorry for any grammatical errors

what a coincidence you uploaded this yesterday😭 lee know was reminiscing (tweaking out) to him spilling the drink on himself in the timeout m/v yesterday during their anniversary livestream 😭 also timeout and party's not over were birthday presents for stay :) you can STAY and #lovestay are dedicated to stay written by the members and haven is a song for stay and stray kids saying our safe place is called haven! lee know, seungmin and i.n still take vocal lessons to this day. they're always trying to improve :)
