This song will always have a special place for me and many other fans, because we discovered them through their 2017 TedX Talk and this is the last song they performed during that presentation and that sealed the deal for many of us. And if I am not mistaken this is now the only song from their first album that they still perform every show to this day.
It sure does. I discovered TW with their later songs Choke and Evolve, but when I saw that TedX presentation, I became a full-fledged TWA member. I think you’re mostly right; Dany performed When I’m Alone a cappella sometimes at least through last year. Don’t know if that’s still true.
This is the song, from the 2017 TedX talk, that started me down the rabbit hole of The Warning music. The lyrics are rather simple because they were literally children when they wrote it. Still a crowd favorite to this day.
@@SDsailor7 Yah I know the album was released then but during either the Tidal documentary or the the Mayday in the making they had said that some songs that were on the XXI Century Blood album were written in the time of there first EP. I may be wrong, either way new reactors should be aware of how dang young they were when they started writing their own music
@@AKFishgod Yes I know it's confusing at times just to keep track. And yes, they started composing since the EP escape the mind. That EP is out of print and is/will be worth a lot of money for the collectors. I wish I had it.
Bye the time the first album came out they had already played those songs live for sometime. If memory serves that’s really because they kind of had to, they only had escape the mind and covers. Since they didn’t want to do covers anymore they needed to start playing the songs from the first album right away. Please forgive if I’m forgetting some details, that’s a number of years ago now.
They have been locked in since the beginning. The piano is a track they've made and play themselves. They all play piano. They have a number of tracks which Paulina controls start and stop with foot pedals now, she used to also control the images projected on the screen behind them as well. Pau taught herself how to program all that stuff herself by the time she was 13. Dany and Ale do the same with their pedalboards too. This is a real fan favorite.
They've been playing to a click (and tracks aka 'stems') individually and collectively since they were very, very young, so it's comfortable and basically nothing to them. They're absolute MASTERS of it.
They do use a click track and pre-recorded stems to enhance their sound on stage. They create all of them, no other musicians are involved. They are Gen Z and have been into technology from the beginning. Pau has always sung with the headset mic, even from the early days.
The answer to your “track” question is yes. They do have some simple tracks on some of their songs. On this one it was a piano. On their second “Tedx Talk” at Univ. of Nevada/Reno in 2017 when Dany was 16, Pau was 14 and Ale was 12, the song started with Ale on keyboard then continued with a track of simple piano notes to accompany. Pau shows the MacBook in her “GearMaster’s” video. TWA
Now that you've heard this song, take a trip back to 2017 when they played this song during a TEDx presentation shortly before they released their first album. Likely the same piano backing track was used. They were 16, 14, and 12 at the time. Reaction not necessary, unless you really want to!
This is one of their earliest masterpieces, and they just played it all over Europe last month. And Pau and Ale still do the synchronized head bobs and Dany and Ale still do the synchronized guitar swings.
A perfect example of The Warning and their fans. The audience know the lyrics to all their songs and sing with them. In Europe, North America and South America. If The Warning were to stop at any time during a song, the entire concert hall will continue the song. Everyone singing with them. This often make The Warning smile or make them tear up. In some of their earlier performances Ale, Pau and Dany had turns actually playing keyboard on stage.
Paulina runs the show from her laptop. She launches the click and backing tracks. She used to download the song programs to Dany's pedal board, but not anymore as the current pedal board has all the programs on it. The piano is a backing track. Except for sounds such as sirens, they play all the instruments on those tracks. Pau explained her laptop in her gear run down on a Digital Tour Bus channel video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pIo-5Htb9zA.html&pp=ygUcZGlnaXRhbCB0b3VyIGJ1cyB0aGUgd2FybmluZw%3D%3D
You will be interested in their gearmasters episodes 471, 473 and 475 where they do gear rundowns. Pau explains how she runs the click and backing tracks. Dani's pedal board is amazing and all of it makes me feel old.
The Teatro Metropolitan version sounds incredible, but I'll never get over the version they played as teenagers during their TedTalk in 2017. 😁 It's one of the few songs that I prefer to see the old version, above all the later ones! 😀👍
When no click track is available or not working Ale is time keeper . . In rehersal and shows . The others recognise her as that saying her time keeping is scary and So is the look she gives us if not in time . . This happend at the MTV VMAs where their click track wasnt compatable with the production system . so they just went out and kicked ass . Ale also has perfect pitch . . .
Yes, they use a backing track for supporting elements, such as the piano track -- all of which they pre-record themselves. Pau controls the click and backing tracks using Ableton on that laptop, with everything triggered from a floor pedal.
It's a click, but the ladies are old hands at using them. They also play to a metronome in their earpieces to help them stay on time. Keep em coming and I'll keep tuning in. Peace.
Their proficiency and comfort with a click track allows them to do music videos like Money where the studio sound is overlayed on a live performance and it's almost perfect. Better synched than some other videos where an artist is lip synching to a track.
Most - if not all of their songs - are played to a click and backing track. They’ve done this since they started performing live. In a recent interview, Dany was asked about adding backing musicians in live shows. She responded that it would be nice to do in the future but right now their budget doesn’t allow it.
They approached developing their performance skills so amazingly well in that they were taught and learned how to use the tools available to them, like a click track and backing tracks, from the outset. Fascinating how dynamic they are performing yet how on time they are. Personally, I’d rather they not add another instrumentalist on stage as I just love their 3 piece dynamic. I much more prefer they do what they do currently, but, if they decide to add, I’m sure I’ll love it just as much.
You can't go wrong with any song from this performance, but great choice! I love "Survive"! It was one of the very earliest songs The Warning recorded, but it still remains a fan favorite. Pau does control the click track and stem tracks from her laptop. The piano is a backing track that they recorded from playing the piano. In my opinion, The outro to this song is one of the best outros ever
Check out the Digital Tour Bus Gear Masters gear rundowns for all three sisters. Pau (Paulina) talks about Ableton live and how she controls the click track and backing tracks.
They use backing tracks but all played by them. No hidden musicians. To my knowledge Enter Sandman with a backing track of Alessia Cara on vocals is the only song with a non band member performing. Makes sense since it was originally a collaboration and she can't really tour with them just for one song. She did do a guest spot with them during one of their gigs at the Whisky A Go Go.
Great choice in selection of a song. This song is still a fan favorite and is from their first album XXI Century Blood. They do use backing tracks and they do perform all the music on the track, so that is them on the piano. In the first live version of this, Ale played piano for the beginning while Pau was singing and before the drums came in then was all bass after that. They do use backing tracks to fill out the band as they are only a three piece band. I am glad you enjoyed it and am happy to hear you will be doing the whole concert. Also mix in their latest singles and a new song Burnout to premier tomorrow. New album to come out June 28, Keep Me Fed.
Just for fun take a look at an earlier performance of this song (like from their second TEDx talk) back when they really were little kids. Such energy and promise. And they did do the piano live on stage back then as well as a backing track. They have played with a click for a LOOOONG TIME and they're very good at it: I definitely would have a very hard time. This is really paying off for them now with their more complicated compositions and they can run backing track with additional voices (it's their voices but recorded) and keys and stuff with ease.
This is a rare case where I prefer the studio version. The girls put so much into the harmonies into this LP. The harmonies in this particular song are mesmerizing in the og song.
They run a system called Ableton ?? I believe There are videos out there of each member doing a gear rundown . They do not have others play on their tracks . Live or other wise . . All if any backing tracks are them . . Except Enter Sandman . . The ooohhss etc in the back ground are Alessia Cara as it was a joint project. Take care . Bye from NZ 🍻🇳🇿👍twa
As far as i know they do have some backing tracks, paulina triggers them from her kit. They recorded everything themselves, if you are interested in that sort of thing there a video of paulina going over her rig.
The intro on guitar used to be played by Ale on the piano, check out their 2017 Tedx performance of Survive to see that. This and When I'm Alone (also in the 2017 Tedx) are the two oldest songs in their current setlist (although When I'm Alone was only played a few times on their recent European tour when Pau got sick)
The used to have a keyboard on stage and Ale (bassist) would play the piano part in the intro and then have the piano track for the rest of the song. But yeah, they use tracks for things that they can't physically play live.
Pau's delivery of her lines in this song (along with the music that accompanies her) always gives me Broadway Musical type vibes ... and it totally works. (i get a slightly similar vibe from the bridge part in _Disciple_ , though to a much lesser extent)
This is a song from their first studio album (track 7, if I'm not mistaken). It is one of my all-time favorites of The Warning and there are now over 50 to choose from. Their 4th studio album releases at the end of Jun 2024. But this one is now a classic and fan favorite the around the world. You can tell because the audience is singing most of the opening verse. That says something right there. As for the piano backing track, that is what it is. Pau actually controls it through, I believe, foot pedals which are connected to her laptop. She does a lot more than sing and play the drums up there. She is simply amazing. There is a video of them playing at TEDx where they introduce 3 of their original songs. One of them is Survive (this was before the album was released or maybe shortly after). During the performance, Pau's drumstick snaps in two because she's playing so hard. And without skipping a beat, she picks up another one from a bucket next to her and continues like nothing happened. Just watching that little clip amazes me even to this day.
The drummer Pau has a laptop, where she controls click tracks (they all use in ears) and backing tracks. They use Ableton, so they might also trigger some sequences for lightings. Most backing tracks are piano, some chorus vocals (those oh oh ohhhh in some songs) and rythm guitars when it's time for a solo. She uses a MIDI to trigger those things while drumming. And there are some loops in those clic tracks because sometimes they're playing some extra bars of the bridge in a song while interacting with audience before jumping into another verse
Up to about a few yrs ago Ale started off on the elec piano and then moved to the bass after the intro. Pau has always ran the show from her laptop, beside the click, she would control the animation for the screen behind the band and even at one point could control Dany’s foot pedals, and then what the hell I guess she than plays drums while singing haha TWA ⚡️⚡️⚡️
They run a click track (provided by David Bendeth, the producer of their last album Error) and have backing tracks for additional instruments, and Paulina is running it through Ableton software. They played every instrument (live or recorded). There is no musician behind the curtain.... ever.
Once you get on to the "Queen of the Murder Scene concerts at Lunario or the Foro DiDi . . They need to be played in order as . "Queen of the Muder Scene " is a concept album conceived and writen when Pau was about 14 . Many have said that it is arguably one of the best concept albums produced . .
Yeah they record their own backing tracks and use them pretty sparingly. Some people never notice but maybe 1/2 - 2/3s of their live songs have some track or another. In this song the backing track has been very evident from the beginning. It's one of their earliest songs and is in their 2nd TEDx performance when they were mere babes. And yes, personally I would really not like a click track as a percussionist / pianist but I think because they write such tight songs compositionally it's a decent solution for them to always then have tracks possible. in the future tracks I'm sure will adapt to the performers rather being set to a click. we should already be there now but AI priorities are elsewhere. It isn't algorithmically that complicated, more audio processing / recognition I suspect (look at the poor ability of CC to follow when music is happening).
Been listening to Rock and metal for over 60 years....this is a Rock Band...welcome to the 21st century of Great rock music. Thanks to these ladies for restoring my faith in Rock and Roll. They do all there own tracks and Pau running Albertron software for click tracks, stems and backing tracks they have done themselves...she has a foot pedal to run any and all tracks including graphics behind them at some concert venues. Multi tasking at the highest level for this genius young lady. Thanks Erol.
One day you'll arrive to their second TED talk and will be amazed at this song again. At some point Pau actually had to learn how to play without injuring herself, because she was so freaking intense when she was younger that her teacher told her something in the lines of "You're not gonna last that way", some say she was on her "Animal phase" on reference to the Muppets Show drummer, ha ha. Anyway, the three are amazing but Pau is pure power. Loving your reactions! 🤘🤘
I like your reactions and how you project the band larger on the screen. I’m an old prog rock fan. Kansas-Styx- Jean Luc Ponty etc but I absolutely love these girls
Yeah there is a piano backing track, Ale (bass) has played that on occasion but it has been a few years now. Fun fact, most every song was written on piano by Pau and then the band work out their instrumental parts from there. On ERROR (their third LP) Pau takes lead vocals on two songs: 23; and Revenant. She also has a gorgeous (and heart wrenching) track called Breathe (just her and her piano). She performed that live for the first time during their 10th anniversary celebration. The crowd loved it, sang it back to her, (Pau was already teared up during the performance), and towards the end as the crowed continued singing to her she collapsed into her hands crying. I even teared up, because that song hit me hard as well. It is VERY powerful to her (it's about a loss she went through according to fans) and ironically it wasn't meant to be released due to how personal it was for her. Clearly someone talked her into releasing it as a bonus track for ERROR. LONG LIVE THE WARNING!!! #GetWarned #DanielaVillarreal ⚡🤘💛 #PaulinaVillarreal ⚡🤘💓 #AlejandraVillarreal ⚡🤘💙
Watching them jam out at the end and having so much fun warms my heart every time I see this song performed. A fan favorite they have been killing it like this for years it just gets better and better. Great reaction I love the songs where Pau shares lead vocals Disciple is another one where this happens and it's awesome. Dust to Dust to see Pau sing lead is an incredible experience thanks enjoyed this one. 🔥⚡
This is a "chestnut" from their early days - when they were young. Apparently, it's about an ex- friend of Pau's that blew her off because, instead of socializing, she stuck with her little band that would never amount to much....
Worth a listen to see this song at their TED Talk at University of Navada in 2017. Ale plays the keyboard and Pau handles a broken stick, just so cool to see them younger and so talented. They talk during the show seeing them speak so well in their second language, especially Ale so young (12). 3 songs Survive is last. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pj5ue3M-v6o.html
They were teens, first album, and I used to avoid hearing this song, no reason, um the title didn't enthuse me. But one day I did, and it's one of their songs that I have to hear every day. ❤❤❤
Thanks Erol. I love watching people smile at what makes me smile 😃. Thanks to my fellow Warning Army members. I learn so much from you all. Great reaction.
We , as fans, have been watching this song evolve over the last 7 years. In the beginning, Ale use to play the keyboard, but as they began playing more concerts and festivals, Dany used simple chords and the keyboard was retired(less equipment tho haul). I hope they bring it back. And yes, they have backing tracks to make the songs a little fuller, however, they have had technical problems where the tracks crashed. The audience never knew it. They have said it is just another way for them to enhance the show for the fans. You should listen to some of Dany's Midnight Concerts, where it is just her and her guitar, sitting on the rug, in The Cave.
Thanks for two reactions well done! Teatro is great, since you did SURVIVE and spoke about piano, I also recommend you to watch that song with keyboard intro , a young The Warning in TedX 2017 (performing 3 songs and talk about their music).
The piano is indeed a track. Originally Pau 's intro was accompanied by Ale on piano instead of the guitar they do nowadays. You can see this on the TEDx Talk 2017 as well as the Lunario and Foro Didi concerts.
SURVIVE Songwriters: Paulina Villarreal / Alejandra Villarreal / Daniela Villarreal Don't come to me saying that you cared That I was the one who was never there Don't come with your lies in the air You keep blaming me and it ain't fair Don't come telling me that you're worried That I'll be hurting if you're gone Don't come to me saying that you're sorry Your words mean nothing Your words mean nothing at all You said that we were gonna be together Forever and ever But now I'm lying on the floor With my broken heart and all You said that I was the one of your dreams That your heart belonged to me Now I believe I must move on Because I think you won't come home Come home Oh, I know I will survive Even if you're not by my side Think this time I'll say goodbye But don't come to me saying that you cared That I was the one who was never there Don't come with your lies in the air You keep blaming me and it ain't fair Don't come telling me that you're worried That I'll be hurting if you're gone Don't come to me saying that you're sorry Your words mean nothing Your words mean nothing at all You said that we were perfect for each other That I was like no other I never knew this was a game You win, I lose, I've been replaced You said that you were gonna keep your promise Of loving me always But now I know that it ain't true And I'm so glad that I left you Left you Oh, I know I will survive Even if you're not by my side Think this time I'll say goodbye But don't come to me saying that you cared That I was the one who was never there Don't come with your lies in the air You keep blaming me and it ain't fair Don't come telling me that you're worried That I'll be hurting if you're gone Don't come to me saying that you're sorry Your words mean nothing Your words mean nothing at all
Survive ,poderosa linea de bajo, grandes rellenos de batería ,un riff energético e inteligente contenido ,The Warning son maestras de la composición de temas , un rock clásico y muy buena interpretación de Dany y Pau ,verdaderas maestras del rock
Many of their earlier concerts they start this song with Ale on the piano. They've always played to clicks from nearly day one but you wouldn't know the difference when the clicks go down which happens. Tasty backing tracks are sprinkled all through their career but nothing that threatens the integrity of the song.
*Survive* the first time i heard *Survive* was watching their 2017 TEDx video... they played 3 songs there and spoke to the audience between each song... *Survive* was their closer and that jam session at the end was a wildfire to watch... actually, you should watch both of their TEDx sessions, 2016 and 2017, if you haven't seen them yet... each one is maybe 30 minutes long with 3 songs and DPA/TW speaking between the songs... what they talk about is enlightening and very informative... *Survive* is off their 2017 album "XXI Century Blood"... it is obviously about a relationship going/gone bad... some think of a boy/girl relationship but it could be about any relationship... especially a relationship where partyA is telling partyB that partyB won't make it without partyA in their lives... to me, this sounds very much like it was inspired from the failed negotiations with those labels "that wanted to change them for the wrong reasons"... i can see those label people trying to get them to sign by trying to scare them with words like that... the album's title song has a OMV that really tells a story... it, too, is a must see if you haven't seen it yet... it was nominated for a few awards and won several of them 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
Pau can start and stop the click when she wants to. Watch Disciple from the same concert. They do a crowd interaction/ improv part, then Dany turns around to Pau to signal, and they go back into it.
Excuse me, but why in HELL, after playing rock bass 40 years, do I (kind of) tear up and jump around in my kitchen acting like I'm playing bass to this here? Why?
Show a little love for the band and LINK the original. WTF, you're trying to make something off of them, give a little back. BTW, they all play with a constant click track and Pau (drummer) triggers all the midi tracks. Really would like to like your reactions, but c'mon, please support them. They do deserve it, don't you think?
