Quest Magazine came up when Olivia was first being introduced to Erin at Elle. Erin had asked Olivia if she had worked for a magazine before. Olivia said Quest Magazine. Erin’s reaction was basically “wtf is Quest Magazine”. Timmy then asked Whit if she had ever heard of that magazine she said no.

Can you give a bit more information about the fake story lines ? Because it's not very clear... was Olivia really not working at ELLE? Did Whitney really work at Peoples rev? It's so confusing what is real and what is not. I don't get why Elle would agree to have MTV shoot a fake storyline in their offices and get the editor in chief Robbie involved etc... so strange, can you explain more? Thank you ! :)

Obviously not Whit here, but it's obvious none of the jobs were real. The only real thing was Whitney creating her line and having Kelly help with it PR- and show-wise. And Elle (and the staff that actually worked there) likely agreed for the sake of publicity -- they are a huge magazine and it's great to feature themselves on a TV show about an up-and-coming designer. Joe Zee was also getting into TV stuff at the time, so it made sense. And Olivia was brought on as PR too since she knew so many designers personally.

I read up a lot on the hills and the city...the jobs weren’t real. As in the stars of the show didn’t really work at those places. The companies were employed by mtv- they would agree because I guess it was good PR e.g. Elle probably got a lot more sales during the show.

@@sugarspiceunlimited Exactly. But all the non-stars you see (people in the background at the companies, or secondary cast) did actually work at the places. (Ex. Elodie at Bolthouse, Erin, Joe, Seth, Bryne at Elle). LinkedIn searches can confirm. I've even heard that Lauren didn't even attend FIDM. It was strictly a setting for shooting scenes. I read somewhere that someone nosy called admissions asking if there a record under her name and there was nothing.

SLone3251 yeah she didn’t attend fidm!! I was so shocked to hear that. The hills was super orchestrated, I watched the series back recently and it was just crazy to think how much of it wasn’t real, but every cast member seems to have a different perception of how much of it was fake

I cannot wait for the next episode. 'Professionally Dangerous' is my favourite episode of The City. That final scene with you and Olivia in the restaurant, is exactly the type of reality TV show confrontation I live for.

I've once read that they actually wanted to film Olivia's personal life but she or her boyfriend didn't want to. A very wise decision, it can create drama and potentially ruin relationships. They've been together for more than 10 years now!

I’d love to hear more about Olivia’s role ! You say she didn’t really work at Elle, so what does this mean exactly ? Is she there to just act? What does Elle get from having her there? Maybe the show gave the magazine some publicity ?? I don’t really get that tbh, but perhaps more info would be great ! What does Olivia get if it’s fake? Does the show give her $ ? Does this mean those tasks she gets sent out on are not real? Only real on the show but not in real life? Yeah, it's painfully obvious. There are times she's at her desk and her screen isn't even on, or she'll go in, argue with Erin, and get her bag and just leave. No one could do that on a real job. Not to mention how many times she screws up on assignments.
