Astros stunk it up the whole first half of the season. They lost Christian Javier, Jose Urquidy, Lance McCullers, and Luis Garcia. Verlander was out for a while. That's 5 starting pitchers either out for the year or missing a chunk of it. Chas McCormick stunk, and we haven't had a decent first baseman. Kyle Tucker missed 3 months. We basically handed the division to you, you fumbled.
Astros turned things seriously around themselves though. They’re like the final boss who just won’t stay down. We had a real, REAL feeling that they’d be knocking at the door eventually… and surprise surprise, the Astros are out front in first place by 5 f’ing games. We talk shit but we aren’t delusional about how extraordinary the Astros franchise is.
oh yeah well *our* billionaire owner saved ELEVENTY MILLION DOLLARS compared to yours this year yet again so take that! congrats on winning 54% of your games and proving our GM right you fools. have you even thought about your teams shareholders? being 17-9 against Houston the past 2 seasons is hilarious. oh and thank you Houston fans, yall SHOW UP in Mariners video comments *everywhere* yall must make up a huge chunk of the online viewership like 90% of comments from other teams fans is the Astros
@kaleiwahea unfortunately most those so called fans that weren't around for 2005 or even before 2017 said the astros were done this year. I am sad as an astros fan since 86 how arrogant and having no faith in our team these bandwagon fans have become. They are spoiled by the astros they have watched over the past 7 years. I lived thru the lastros years and the heartbreak years so when they finally won a world series and a 2nd one it erased all those bad memories
Lack of slugging, low batting average, high K rate and terrible situational hitting with RISP is why they didn’t make it. You guys need to stop focusing on team WRC+ it’s clearly not always an indicator of success for teams. Individual WRC+ makes more sense. Go look at the all the playoff teams they all have 2 things in common, hit for average and don’t K much. Plain and simple this team was built as a Three True Outcome with guys who hit 10-20 HRs yeah they doesn’t work
@@MarineLayerPod and yet it’s always the Ms who are the team who doesn’t make it lol weren’t they top 8 last year? If they hit for more average and K less they would have a higher WRC+ The flaw with this lineup is they built with guys who don’t slugg but K a lot, bad recipe
That last sentence is correct. And it's not 100% correlation, but it gives you a pretty good idea. Top 8 last year missing by one game where they lost 14 (!) extra-inning games. Razor thin margin. However, they absolutely need to get better. That we all agree on
@@MarineLayerPod the 2 games that haunt me from last year personally and it would’ve put them at 90 wins which would’ve have won them the West are 2 games in which they had the bases loaded no outs in the bottom of the 9th vs the Angels and Nats. Little nugget on the KC 8-0 blown lead game. That ended up being the ultimate backbreaker as it was a 3 game swing. Ms win that game as they should’ve they go into the weekend 83-76 and KC 84-75. Ms would only needed to be 1 game better than KC and I have all the confidence that would’ve played out. KC has an ATL team fighting for the playoff lives and the Ms the As who they at worse should win 2/3 vs. I just hope the Ms lose 2/3 and KC wins 2/3 so KC finishes 4 games ahead of the Ms and it makes that 8-0 game irrelevant
Macklemore's idiotic comments make wonder if it's Seattle and not the Mariners. Maybe Seattle just doesn't the Mariners anymore. Obviously the Mariners aren't going anymore after having 4 straight winning seasons and Julio and the pitching staff will make that 5 straight in 2025.
Yall need to change your intro into videos to something a bit more somber, like some of the bases loaded 0 out strikeouts or highlight games that the offense actually scores over 6 runs just to allow 7 runs lol. The intro just isnt fitting for the last 23 years lol
I first got interested in baseball when my grandsons started playing. I watched Astros because I was trying to learn the game. Who knew - it was 2017. I seriously didn’t know that not all teams are that good. So yeah, I’m spoiled. It has been an incredibly hard year for us (an entire WS rotation on the injury list? At the same time?) and you guys made it harder. Flowers where they are due. See you next year.
It’s easy fix trade one of our pitchers for a bat replace that pitcher with Hancock, give him a chance to pitch complete season probably a 350 era not bad at all
Appreciate your podcast this Mainers Season, please let us know about the methods and places for 2025 season where we can freely watch the games steamed online! Your homework which to find out Ho all these baseball teams handle the streaming media quagmire! Mariners must figure out how to offer streaming media free on charge! And by the way, dudes, so grew up a Boston Red Sox fan in The Boston suburbs, we know how to pace ourselves season after season! It’s a sports game gentlemen, live moves on please enjoy your Winter break! Cheers,
Trade one of our best Pitching Scout's for someones Best Hitting Scout. Find a former Expo scout, as that team I believe traded more talent away from their farm built tallent than any other.
As a 40 year Mariner fan this team was the most frustrating team ever. When this team has a team game lead I was at peak expectations all the down to the lowest point of my fandom. I need a break from baseball. ⚾️ Go Hawks!
It’s nice that the team has awesome pitching, but it seems to me that the best Mariners teams were hitting-first and had pitching that was just above average, utilizing the park effects. The strong pitching and marginal offense would seem to work for a team like the Rockies, because their park elevates hitting.
Like I've been saying since at least 86 when Henderson and Owen left....The best thing to happen to an M's player is to leave this team and they did lose the Buckner series that year, but they played in a WS. Even when Management leaves, they do better and good luck to her. Maybe do a list of guys that have done better leaving. RJ had a bad back in 98 gone. AROD left and we got nothing for him. I was at game 5 in 95 and the Yanks pretty much left town with Tino and Nelson. Just more sad stats for a sad team.
Keep your head up. They made a valiant push there in the end. Yall have some great talent and a really solid pitching staff. That’s just baseball brother. It’s a hard, hard sport to win in. Go watch Moneyball again. It’ll make ya feel better. We went a really long time here in Houston without achieving success, while those old Mariners teams used to straight up rake every year. Y’all will be in the hunt again next year…
Nah, rooting for a bad home team doesn't make you a loser. Becoming a bandwagon fan does. Rooting for a team that year after year disappoints us, just makes us masochists and parents.
Where does a 10 game division lead, and collapse to miss playoffs rank among all time baseball teams? 95 angels held a 13 game lead over M's before their collapse. So curious where this ranks in history??
Mariners had one of the worst offenses in baseball this season it’s assanine to think that they could hold that lead for the whole season. Even if the Mariners hypothetically did win the division and get to the postseason, it would be a first round exit immediately for them. they’re that weak of a team
@@nissan2829 agree that the offense being bad. still would have preferred a first round exit than a game 159 elimination. but just trying to see where this collapse ranks
Remember that time you predicted Kyler Tucker would be traded to Seattle mid-season? You know, right before the M's coughed up a TEN GAME lead in the division? Clown Szn in Seattle again.
He’s still gonna be a Mariner. We haven’t backed down from that in any way 😤 As soon as the offseason officially starts that conversation is going back into high gear
sadly I stopped caring about this team earlier in the season. I have been a fan since the beginning but this ownership has made me a bandwagon fan. If they are in the playoffs I will watch and care. But if not......I could not care less.
Oh well, back to the rebuild. Im sure our prospects will be ready in a few years then we can sign a big name. Good things coming to seattle, i predict we make playoffs in 4-5 years
At this point the only way the Ms can prove themselves to the fanbase is signing Soto… otherwise this franchise isn’t worth investing in until they get new ownership.
I feel y'all Mariners had a great run. Don't give up on them. I've been with the Astros since they were the Colt45s 1962. After their name change, they were known as the Last Stros and Lost Stros. We never gave up on them. Could have been Texas Pride as we are big on that. It took them a while, but they finally got there. Now, I'm not saying the wait was fun by any means. I'm saying that we never gave up on them and were always proud of them, win or lose. It is not easy to win a World Series, but I feel the Mariners will get there because they just have shown that they have what it takes !!!
my astros are not gonna win the world series this year but in a lot of ways this is the most impressive year for them during this incredible run of success in the last 8 years. without mccullers jr, javier, garcia, urquidy and jp france they still found a way to win the division. Verlander was out almost the whole season not to mention the jose abreu debacle. and of course the mariners historic choke job... just unbelievable!
