If I could change one thing about this vid, I’d mention how I love Todd at the beginning of the video and every jab I make at him is just me being a dick for the sake of making myself look bad in comparison. The joke fell flat and now people are genuinely hating on Todd and making me look worse by defending shit I say in this vid that I didn’t even mean when I said it. This vid is an experiment for me to see if being the rudest person possible works as a joke and the answer is no, because it just brought out really awful people in the community.
Honestly need everyone to just remember all these Top 10s are highly subjective. Todd and Brad aren’t gonna agree and most people have some songs over others. It’s a simply video, I do disagree about Good Good being boring. That song’s finna slap after the superbowl.
One thing I love about Todd's List now is that he would ignore the "fan's favorite" and the "critic's favorite", and only put songs onto list completely based on his own preference. That makes his list the most unpredictable of possibly every RU-vidr. And also, his ability of explaining his taste with efficiency has increased so rapidly for the past few years. Every section in this video cost about 3 minutes in average, and I can understand completely why he loves those songs despite of my disagreement with some choices. Salute to Todd. Great video. (BTW I have watched this stream in live, Brad's chat has reached a level of toxicity similar to Anthony Fantano's.)
Todd unlike a lot of music critics has never been afraid of unironically having bad takes and that's what makes him refreshing for me. He's honestly got me to admit I liked songs a lot of people considered awful
@@synthiandrakon honestly Todd is so refreshing for enjoying music and being unashamed of that. I feel like people can pander and so I have massive respect for Todd for being probably one of, if not the, most honest and respectful music reviewers on RU-vid. He always explains his thoughts and it’s so nice because it feels like a conversation rather than an argument which is how I feel most lists come across as.
Agreed. Brads chat has warped into a strange amalgamation of progressivist acceptance yet arrogant bullying where if he has a take on the track, the masses will sheeple their way into hating just cause he does. It’s irritating, I don’t watch the streams for this exact reason.
@@TSFboi I'm sure he loves Taylor swift and other pop girlies, but hes definitely not obsessed with them to the point of not listening to other music, which is not rare in stan communities
I’m sorry I cannot stand how much of an echo chamber Brads chat is. Everyone was like EWWWWWW CRINGEEEEE when Todd put Cupid on his list, but when Brad says he kinda likes it everyone’s like Aw yeah this goes hard. Infuriating
The older I get the more I realize everybody has garbage taste in music because they don't like exactly what I like. EDIT: This was sarcasm by the way everybody has the right to enjoy whatever music they want and while I may dunk on the artist I would never make fun of a person for liking what they like.
I think that it’s easier for people to agree rather to disagree and so they want to be like Brad and are scared of not fitting in with others. idk maybe I’m overthinking it but I think that’s something people do regardless of what the situation is.
@@FickleKitsch45 you're not necessarily wrong, but brad's chat has been so bad at times that he's had to make videos calling them out for how garbage they are. it's sad
@@theseanie9958I hope the chatters listen and take a step back from shitting on stuff when Brad doesn’t love it and stop themselves from being so biased when reviewing music because of Brad, that’s not fair on him and on themselves and it becomes a negative feedback loop which I hope doesn’t happen here. Praying it’s an off day for Brad, hope he’s feeling better soon
@@FickleKitsch45 Yeah, same. I felt awkward when I actually agreed with some of this stuff because of how bandwagony it felt (and as I've stated elsewhere in the comments, the Ado thing had multiple people pointing out one of the tracks wasn't even necessarily bad but everyone was acting like they were listening to the Shags).
ngl todd stays v unpretentious when it comes to pop music and thats the crucial part to enjoying it, its about writing good stuff from existing and trending ideas not trying to reinvent the wheel but using it to its best ability.
brad's negativity and shallowness really gets highlighted when he's interspersed with todd, who's only grown more genuine and engaged over the last 15 years. like i know he says this was a bit but lets not pretend this is a big step from his normal attitude.
Loona - Stylish did the melody better consider the hook is the EXACT SAME as Cruel Summer and they did it first. i dont know why people arent talking about this.
@elblanco7741 I never went to school. That's probably why. I'm 20 years old and have never had an education. Please don't remind me that my grammar is bad, I *know* my grammar is bad.
I like Brad a lot but this reaction was not it for me. It felt often that he wasn’t even listening or giving songs a genuine chance. And this is from someone who agrees with many of Brad takes here. Idk it kinda felt very shallow and kinda condescending at times.
Funny how for the worst list I was basically on the same page, but for the best list I was like “nooo Brad embrace the cringe you take stuff too seriously” lol
oh totally. during the whole "omg why does it matter that you're a cis straight guy reviewing music" rant i was just groaning. "gay people have good taste" jokes have been circulating for as long as gay people could talk, it isn't that serious. i normally find brad pretty funny and agree with him for the most part, but his attitude felt unbearable in this video
Some of Brads fans are pretty damn bad. But I do see Brad as playing up a character that has been molded from streams. He seems more regular at times, but sometimes he does seem like he’s playing it up for stream
I agree with this. People are like “Brad is so negative in this video” but that’s… kinda the point? Like yes, I believe his opinions are genuine, but I also do think he exagerates some reactions or opinions because it’s his “character” at this point
Honestly, I just think his line is too blurred. It is not obvious he's playing a character, and I think it's clear it isn't obvious to him either. I think he's playing it up, yes, but I think he actually stands by it, too, which imo is far too negative of an environment to feel comfortable in.
Agreed also like acted close minded and judgmental and dismissive the way he does onlt breads people who really act that way to be around and like why do you want that?
The main problem is that Todd is a great guy who makes lists about what HE enjoys, he doesn't follow the general consensus like a lab dog and so people highly respect him. Brad here is just punching down and it isn't funny or entertaining, its just bizarre and uncomfortable because Todd doesn't deserve that kind of reaction. It's fun to watch brad punch up when he's reacting to tom McDonald or Falling in reverse because they deserve it and they're more famous than Brad, but Todd isn't that guy. I think Brad was absolutely just being a hater here, amping up his real opinions and back peddled hard when people didn't find it entertaining. It didn't help that by doing this ""act"" that it really showed some light on the more toxic side of chat as well who probably were getting wrapped into brads """"""""act"""""""" because they most likely found it geniune, blurring the lines even more.
Brad punches down at easy targets and sees the worst in everything. Todd gives his honest opinion, tries to see the best in things, and doesn't like picking the low-hanging fruit.
Honestly lol someone made a dad joke in chat and he was like "you're not as clever as you think you are" Like bruh 💀 who takes a dad joke that seriously
Same. This was...something. I was on the fence about sticking around but, the negativity from both him and his audience is a tad too unbearable. Say what you will about Todd and him being "old" but, he's definitely more of a pleasant watch these days and his community isn't insufferable to be in. Even when I don't agree with his takes on something. I guess some people are into the overly negative shtick but, I think I've gotten too old for that lol and Brad probably just isn't for me.
As much as I appreciate Brad, I find him a bit too negative in this one. This video doesn't have the kind of vibe I've known him for, as if he is done with creating content. Now, I'm considering whether I should take a break from watching his videos at this point. Still appreciate him, no matter what. I just hope he doesn't see anything negatively.
@@ShikiRyougi05 I know it’s a joke, but the RU-vid algorithm won’t care. A dislike always hurts a video’s performance. 😭😭(I’m not mad or sad for the record, this is all in jest)
@@ShikiRyougi05 When RU-vid made the dislike count not visible, they released a video explaining that dislikes would still be used to curate your recommendations by showing you (and viewers similar to you) LESS of those videos / creators that you disliked. My statement has basis.
You can react to Todd’s worst hits of 1976 video. He said that the overarching theme of the worst songs is that they’re kitschy and lame. But the best songs which he referenced are some the most amazing songs of any year ever. That he could make a top 30 of those best songs and would still have to make some painful cuts.
I'm getting incredibly sad at how pretentious and negative Brad, and in reflection his chat is becoming, he just sounds so bitter and upset so often nowadays and literally anything he watches that he doesn't love becomes such an echo chamber of negativity and i hate watching it, i feel like i shouldnt care but i enjoy watching Brad but his content is just getting to be too much sometimes. idk if its like an effect of like adhd or if he was having a bad day but this stream was insufferable.
ADHD guy here and yeah, I don't really know what's up with this behavior. Honestly this vid got me to unsub from the channel because while I've felt he's gotten more performatively callous in the last few months, it's starting to feel like this is weight he actively carries. It feels like he's layers and layers away from being genuinely him, experiencing music and loving it like the rest of us, due to this culture of pseudo-critical negativity that pervades him, then making his chat negative, and perpetuating the cycle when reading chat. I actually really think he's a decent guy and he has some of my favorite humorous moments but I just don't really see anything from him that he seems to enjoy anymore - I don't feel that same passion for music and love for even the bad seen back when I subscribed around the Island Boys era. Sometimes a bit of banter is all you need - no need to be a critic for a living when you have a live audience. I just want him to be happier honestly, but I think that has to start with him :/
I think the IGOR video was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. You can tell that he was trying not to like it, instantly dismissing the fan favorite first few tracks due to this critical persona keeping him from, well, vibing out so to speak - letting music do the talking and not being afraid of being emotive from what you hear. It wasn't until halfway or more through the album that he finally let himself enjoy it and while he still has his points of criticism that are fair I just can't seem to understand his frame of reference for instantaneous dismissal of all that isn't immediately "objectively" perfect. I kind of wish he'd just... drop the critic schtick. It doesn't represent what most people like in him well, imo, and keeps us away from a positive place to share and listen to music.
@@solodude3937while I agree this video is tough, I think he gave Igor like a 8 right? I didn't mind that video as a big Igor fan, just felt like he was trying to mess with chat cause he knew they all liked the album. This video felt more like a dogpile onto easy targets.
Ya'lls terrible music taste hurt him. *jk, love what you love, I don't listen to pop anymore, just doesn't do anything for me, i became a metalhead 10 years ago.
I randomly got recommended this by RU-vid so i dont know anything about the community, but "playing up negativity for fun" results in toxicity 100% of the time. People who dont like negativity will leave and people who enjoy negativity will stay. The result is a community that becomes more and more toxic over time. I dont know how long you have been a content creator but the earlier you catch it the better.
I’m gonna be honest, happy to see two R&B songs on Todd’s Top 10 especially with the lack of R&B in the Year Ends. Really need us to go back to when R&B dominated the charts bc ever since its decline, the typical genre appearances have been hitting less and less with only a few exceptions
god this video is really bitter. the thing I love about Todd's lists is that it is a list of HIS favorite/least favorite songs. He spends like 3 mins saying why he likes the song and sometimes it makes me even like the song more
The FIFTY FIFTY story is pretty sad. Like, not particularly out of the ordinary because the K-Pop industry is so unbelievably terrible in every way, but the fact that they dropped something that was actually listenable (rare diamond in the rough for k-pop) and just get churned through the machine like trash all the same is particularly grating.
Lots of kpop is listenable. Brad's own video on kpop had him giving out smiley balls for a bunch of the songs. Honestly Cupid's sound to me as a kpop fan is kind of a dime a dozen, it's really not that unique. It's just that people only look at the top 2 or 3 popular kpop acts in the West, who have very loud, brash music, and assume all groups sound like that. That'd be like thinking all American music sounds like either Taylor Swift or Drake.
as someone who has seen fifty fifty rise to fame in real time im both happy and sad to see them on this list. they couldve been so big if it wasnt for attrakt
It’s funny how out of touch Brad is to the Taylor swift world that all his gripes are so outdated. What do you mean no one talks about folklore or evermore anymore. Love Brad tho
He's determined to dislike her for whatever reason. Like yeah, to each their own like what you like and dislike what you dislike but, it's pretty apparent he decided one day 'Taylor bad' and hasn't deviated since.
@@AFellowCyberman thanks for agreeing with my point. The huge sect of Taylor’s audience adores folklore and evermore and especially on tiktok which Brad proclaims he hasn’t used in a year. He deliberately cuts himself off from a huge part of social media that moves the needle on everything then claims to think no one is talking about a certain thing. Ironic
im glad other people are talking about how negative this stream was. Chat was also as toxic as ever but i feel like thats just a given as a twitch streamer anyways. this was actually very painful to sit through which isnt my usual reaction to brad vids 😭 i hope this isnt going to be a consistent thing
Welcome to “I know negativity will bring me views so imma act like a jerk”. He knows this and knows that’s what gives him views. He doesn’t care about coming off nice or genuinely critiquing
brad i’m so sorry but your folklore and evermore takes were so terrible 😭 the only people who have forgotten those albums are coincidentally the people that claim all the music she’s made in the past 5 years is “generic pop trash”, both albums are actually getting more recognition than ever since the tour began
I was feeling the same. I occasionally watch his videos, I follow Todd and Spectrum Pulse more closely and they're much more "live and let be" with others' opinions, but Brad was approaching rude here.
@@AwesomosoI think it’s more-so to do with the fact that todds list is incredibly off I’d say. Like the first 5 songs he listed are love songs or relating to it, not to judge Todd but you can tell somethings personal. Todd was teetering on pretentious but at the end of the day he even admitted himself he is jaded with the tracks but he can respect Todds opinion.
@@pazoni I didn't see much surprising with Todd's list, he's been a country fan for a while (Wallen topped before with 7 Summers) and a Taylor Swift fan for a while. And then for Brad to act like he knew of better choices when he's so out of the loop with popular music. Just seemed like Brad was being really arrogant, dismissing some songs just off genre and I'm surprised he played the whole video through to be honest. Some of that was tired rambling but a RU-vid comment doesn't deserve polish.
I love Todd list for how unpredictable he is. He could be like many people and pick the more universal hated or loved songs for these list, but he doesn't. He just goes by his own taste. Makes them more entertaining.
I'm surprised people weren't roasting you in the live chat for not liking Cruel Summer. That's one of the most beloved Taylor Swift deep cuts that became popular and has had incredible longevity on the charts entirely because it's basically a perfect pop song. Even when Lover came out, people were infuriated that "ME!" was the lead single when something as great as Cruel Summer was in the album. Cruel Summer is the most obvious pick Todd or *anyone* could make to a best list lmao
watching brad is like smoking. i hate doing it, it does nothing for me and i get mad at myself everytime i fall back into it. but i cant stop indulging
i think you might have misunderstood that last bit whenever he put those songs he put on screen. it wasn’t songs he thought were good or bad, it was a list of songs that say “stop” and the song stops.
I think it was an excuse to gratuitously get his chat to dogpile a particular Japanese artist he hates. He probably didn't bother actually *reading* the list, reading is for boomers!
Brad, what are you doing man, like you’ve been negative before, but this just feels like your pointing out negatives that weren’t even really there. You better turn this around real quick man, I really liked it when you reviewed albums you liked, and ones that you REALISED were bad instead of disliking it before you even started reviewing it. Do a good album review for once, ignore the views. Or like the “most beautiful music” type videos, those were fun because you got to show other opinions.
@elblanco7741 I mean, using your logic, Brad shouldn't have even made this video to begin with since all Todd is doing is sharing his opinions. If Brad can make an entire video about his opinions on someone else's opinions, I fail to see why people in the comments cannot have opinions about Brad's opinions.
Yeah, I always think chat are unfair to her (and ngl, outside of the bandwagoning might be some racism going on with some of them. Not all of them, but some of them)
@@Zulf85 That's true. Plus, he listed to 30 SECOND of one Ado song, came to the conclusion that she's a "whiny, talentless narcissist" and refused to question, think about or engage constructively with any of her other songs; he just complains about her alleged narcissism, calls her annoying and her production trash...and gets away with it.
(this is very much a nitpick but something that I still wanna point out) I overall enjoyed this video however the attitude shown towards Ado at the end of the video is off putting to me. Obviously I get why Ado isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s like she’s being put in the same category as artists such as Demondice or Lewis Capaldi which I think is very much not the case. imo while her music may not be perfect, I think she makes good choices for her music considering the way she uses her voice. she reads to me as someone who knows what they’re doing and how to play to her strengths. at least she’s able to make a pretty cohisive vibe based on the way she sings and her insporations (mainly being vocaloid and J-rock). unlike someone like Demondice who can’t seem to find a vibe that speaks to her strengths and just ends up throwing literally anything at the wall and sees what sticks, or Lewis Capaldi who seems to not understand that the tonal dissonance between his over the top singing and the stripped back, subtle instrumentals doesn’t work at all almost all the time. another note, eccentric and maybe overblown ≠ cringe, not all the time at least. again I understand if people don’t vibe with Ado’s music, or even dislike it, but it feels disrespectful to completely write off her music and the talent she has
I would like to say to all the people that commented yesterday that I'm sorry for my (now deleted) comments. I shouldn't have insulted and argued with anyone in here. I let my ego get the best of me and I'm sorry to whoever was hurt or annoyed by what I was saying. I'm not mentally in a good place right now and let it out on here and I'm an ass for doing that.
Honestly I’m really glad to see this, taking accountability in a RU-vid comment section is a rare sight. We all get heated sometimes 👍 wishing you the best my dude
I think a lot of Brad’s negativity can be funny but he seemed so condescending and mean in this one. I hope this tone of video doesn’t stick. Also why does he even react to Todd, it seems like he genuinely hates these videos
billboard breakdown has so far gotten me through my latter 3 years of high school and my first 2 years of university. i'd have a full blown existential crisis if mark stopped uploading it hehe
I'm still going to defend Ado ngl (even though that cover she did that he uses as an example is TERRIBLE and might be one of the worst things I've ever heard from her or maybe anyone). Although not liking her style is more than reasonable, I can't help but feel some of chat bandwagon because she's Japanese.
I think it's mid, but I still love his passion for every song on that list. His best list is way more interesting than his worst for me because of the perspective he always has. Usually there's at least something where I'm like "yeah I don't feel it, but I see you point" at the bare minimum
25:12 Terrible take lol, should artists lie about putting more thought into the lyrics than they actually did? It's not like admitting they just thought of it randomly prohibits anyone from getting more out of it, it's still open to interpretation just like everything else! Other than that I'm probably closer to Team Brad than Team Todd in this comment section lmao let haters hate
@@trapadvisor Admitting that one of the lyrics in a song didn't have a lot of thought put into it isn't the same as admitting that it's bad. For the record, I don't like Ceilings at all, in fact I agree the song sucks, but that's because of the sound, not the lyrics.
I totally agree. Artists and musicians (even the more calculating ones that people like Brad likes) very often add things to their works that just sound/look cool and never admit to it because it might hurt their image. So admitting to it is actually pretty cool.
@@lidl981 Exactly! My favorite band is The Fall, and often the vocalist of that band would read his lyrics from paper, even during live performances. Sometimes the writing is brilliant, other times it's gibberish, but usually it's both, at least in my opinion.
Brad, you call Todd old but you sort of seem to be the bitter one here. I think you struggle to enjoy people who like things you don't, which kind of sounds like a boomer mentality
"his list was kind of bad" ☠️ Brad, I'm a subscriber to you, I love you to death, but God forbid, please let somebody else just have an opinion on things lol I mean Todd could just go straight 2009 style reviewer and just pretend to like things because it's the objectively correct thing to like and pretend to dislike things because it's objectively correct to dislike them. I for one appreciate honesty over content.
Todd's best work is his Trainwreckords and One Hit Wonderland content and that's been true for a long time now, he's an amazing music historian. Watching him talk about modern music just feels weird at this point. But even if it is a weird experience, it's still interesting and entertaining to hear his takes on things.
i don't watch much of his year end / pop song stuff because i don't really like pop music, but i appreciate that he does them based on personal preference and nothing else.... like he's not trying to impress or prove himself he's just honest abt it
I love Todd. Every year he puts the absolute worst songs on his top list and it's so funny to see him justify it. We all need artists like that, I'm a big Swiftie and I don't really care what others think about that. Every person needs an artist like that I think.
I was a huge kpop fan but I agree with a lot of people that dislike kpop lately the business side is ugly af the music lately just sounds like annoying noise music so Cupid by fifty fifty is such a nice break like it’s such a fun song to me.
right, i'm a current fan of kpop but a lot of the music being made in the industry now just sounds garbage. they're plainly just trying to siphon money off the millions of fans who have fallen into the parasocial relationships between them and the artists, and will therefore mindlessly consume anything they put out, regardless of quality.
@@love--dive I definetly agree with the parasocial part of what u said. I wouldn't say that, Todd's usually gone to bat for Taylor more often than not, where as with Katy, he was always been adamant that she kind of sucks but that he enjoyed some of her songs.
It hurts to see how much people despise this video. I thought I was playing up the negativity for fun and to be entertaining, but clearly it has not been interpreted that way by either the comments or the stream chat. All it seemed to do was validate the people who actually felt and acted this way that this behaviour is fine. It is clear that my intention here didn't matter and I released a vid that was toxic and unhelpful, I'll keep this mind moving forward. -Brad
I wish he'd keep this comment up. I don't really fully understand it, like I don't get the joke really, but I'm glad he at least gets what people are saying.
TBH while i get part of the issue is Brad sort of playing up a character that didn't land well, my other big issue with this vid is more a general issue with reaction streaming: You're so busy trying to keep chat entertained that you don't actually give enough attention to the video to respond to anything it's saying. You're throwing out a lot of off the cuff opinions that don't really connect or respond to any of the points Todd is making in the video as he talks about these songs, because you don't have time to actually listen to Todd, you're just seeing the song he picked and riffing on it to keep chat entertained. And that works for a stream! But once it's ported to a youtube video it's a lot more annoying. Honestly even tho it would be more work I kinda wish you'd do an edited down version of the streamed reaction, just catch the highlights, and then record some more insightful and thought-through segments for the youtube video only. So it could be half stream highlights and half scripted thoughts on the songs that were chosen. But I also get that would be a lot more work and you might just not want to do that
On My Mama keeps turning up on best lists, but my favourite Victoria Monét song of the year was Smoke, her chemistry with Lucky Daye is off the charts!
it felt like a hivemind of negativity and unnecessary gripes from brad to a greater degree. maybe it’s because some people actually got upset about brad insulting their favorite songs. i couldn’t care less about 90% of the songs and came for brad’s reactions, but even he was unbearably bitter and playing the role of a cynical guy to a strange degree.
@@morbidtoaster8615 You know what I mean. We all watch his videos and he was supposedly “playing a bit” this time. Doesn’t mean it was good and it doesn’t mean chat wasn’t some hivemind ready to shut on anything that Brad doesn’t like. It wasn’t a good stream and he even threw a temporary tantrum over people afterwards.
Gotta admit i feel the same way. In terms of how he talks about music and the such, I don't think this was any different from his usual output, and he was fair and genuine with his opinions (like conceding when Todd would win him over or when a song he didn't expect to like he actually found to be good). I think people are instead picking up on and disliking a perceived personal negativity towards Todd, feeling like there's a negative energy directed towards him as a person? That said i think it bears remembering that Todd and Brad seem to have established a mutual respect and the such so Brad making jokes about Todd being old or stealing his soul or whatever feel (to me at least) like good natured albeit more jabby jokes at the expense of an acquaintance. That's just my interpretation though, i was surprised at how badly the community took this video.
Honestly, yall, i dont really get what you're talking about in terms of negativity? Like the beginning was kinda eh but it got better as it went along. This wasnt enough to "devalue" Brad's content for me. Am i missing something??
He barely watched Todd video, went along with chat’s reaction of anything that was mildly not his thing, was needlessly pretentious about a pop chart and dont even get me started with him copying and pasting someone elses review.
He didn't seem to listen to Todd in the way I'd hope. He was so ready to write everything off, even though this is supposed to be a list of somewhat good songs? This persona makes more sense for a worst list.
