Some Say Yes To The Dress Brides just wanna have fun and bare it all, and why shouldn't they? Well, there could be a few reasons, modesty, family, and religion all usually play a role in why a kibosh is put on a dress that is sheer and showcases a lot of the wearer's body. And while that's all good for those that want to respect those values, there also happens to be a set of brides that just wants to let it all hangout out and we gotta discuss them too!

IMO there's sexy and on the opposite end is slutty and/or tacky. Really don't understand why anyone would choose to look slutty on their wedding day. You can look sexy without showing all your bits above & below. Just my opinion.

For the English lady, the super sheer dress didn’t give her body and definition like the third dress did. When you tell a person what looks good or not on them you have to give specific reasons not just “it looks vile” that’s an opinion not a actual reason why it doesn’t suit you. Also, sometime’s when you’re turning a page in life you wear things that reflect the new you and if people don’t like it they can look the other way.

Right?! Put her in a fitted trumpet Pnina Tornei dress and she'd be elated. Usually when the bride tries a gown on for the 2nd time, and when the dress is the one, they put the veil on her so she can see the whole look. Consultants also usually make sure to do that in cases like hers, where they've already bought dresses but are still looking. Sometimes they just need to see the whole look together to feel like a bride, and I was surprised the consultant didn't do that.

@RosetteAckesson Why am I the weird one? The designer wanted it with the lining. The family and friends wanted it with the lining. The only one that wants it without is the bride. I don't personally care what she wears. But the bride is being very selfish, wanting to make her family uncomfortable. Imagine what is going to happen with a roomful of guests? The bride is excited to make everyone uncomfortable. That tells me that her whole point of the wedding is not to marry her fiancé but to flaunt her bits in public even if they don't want to see them. And yeah, shaming is the old-fashioned way to keep people inside social constructs. What else do you want to do? Shaming THIS bride reminds her that there are public decency laws to be mindful of.

While I’m all for the ‘you do you’ vibe; The comment “he didn’t know where to look.” Stands out to me(in Mel’s section) For a fashion show, or a couture party the sheer dress would be great. But when I think of being at my wedding and having all my friends and family unable to look at me without feeling uncomfortable, it makes me sad. I want to feel confident and I want everyone attending to feel comfortable and the amount of dress revealing-ness should be a happy medium. 1yr later update: My initial comment didn’t well convey what actually bothered me about that bride. The short version is more “wear whatever you want, but the intentions behind her choices were kinda sus” I’m more concerned with her state of mind than her dress choices. The way it was presented in the editing of the show was that she enjoyed how uncomfortable her guy friend was when she was in a revealing dress. She reveled in the fact that he couldn’t look at her. It made her seem like she WANTED to make the people coming to her wedding feel awkward, uncomfortable and unable to look at her because of how scantily clad she was. Why does she want to treat her wedding guests like that? Aren’t these supposed to be people she cares about? It wasn’t *that* she wanted to wear something revealing that bothered me, it was *why*.

I think there's a time and place for feeling sexy and showing off your body- like going to the beach, going out for parties, heck, if you want- while errand shopping, etc. Like you mentioned, weddings are usually big events with lots of friends and family and maybe a church involved. It's weird to me for someone to want to be sexy and show off their body in a moment like that. Of all the other moments one has to do it, why does the wedding have to be it? In contrast, men aren't dressing to show off their bodies at their wedding. They aren't at the alter in muscle tees and hoochie daddy shorts. Wear what you want, but I also question why it's only been wedding dresses that have become more and more revealing.

The #1 rule of fashion and weddings is to put on what makes you happy. There is an art to balancing your “edge” with social expectation. Some are better at it than others, and some just don’t care to balance at all which I honestly respect. Personally, I think a bit of nudity is a fabulous choice if it’s purposeful. That being said, the purpose of bringing an entourage is to get an idea of people’s reaction to your dress. If you can hear your future MIL tell you she hates it but you still are brave enough to wear it, then girlie it’s the dress for you!

Considering how expensive a good bridal dress is, if you're not going to wear a dress you actually like simply because the people have "expectations" for a more conservative dress, then might as well skip the whole wedding ceremony and just get legally married and call it a day.

It took me a bit to figure out what my issue with bride No 1’s second dress was but I think I figured it out: to me it feels like half a dress, like it’s just the lace overlay and it makes it feel either unfinished or like a very expensive nightgown bc of the missing structure in it. I think there would’ve been a way to use that super sheer concept but still make it feel like an actually finished dress imo. But I absolutely loved the third dress on her! Bride no 2 I’m so sorry for her entourage bc they aren’t in her corner at all and are just telling her what her parents wouldn’t approve of as if she doesn’t know that herself. I actually really liked the bodice of the second dress on her (the one with the fufu skirt), but I wasn’t a fan of the skirt bc to me it distracted from the bodice too much? I think that bodice with a different skirt could actually look really elegant. Also I’ve been to many church weddings and if the top part was “too sexy” it’s not unusual to just have a short jacket styled on top that covers the shoulders for the ceremony 🤷

You were so spot on with many of your comments! I'm sure some of it's for the drama of TV, but it makes me feel so bad for the poor bride who loves the dress and has the confidence, to watch her get torn down. I also get annoyed at the consultants sometimes (more than just Gok) because they know that the entourage is going to react that way, but also put them in the line of fire to show them 'this is why you don't want to go this route'. It really eats at me!

I’m from a Catholic majority country and it’s common to have sexy wedding dresses as long as you have some kind of jacket or shawl to cover your shoulders doing the actual ceremony, the only one that wouldn’t cut it is the very sheer one the English girl tried on second.

The very sheer one really wasn't the whole dress. Gok removed the satin underlayment because the bride wanted to increase the sex appeal to the nth degree. I personally think it was appropriate for the friends and family to be aghast because it was so sheer that she would have had to do a Brazilian to look good for the wedding. To me, that is outrageous.

It's not shaming people. It's reminding them that it is a wedding and not a "look at me" show of one. She is only one half of the wedding. And she literally wants people to be embarrassed and feel uncomfortable to be there. If giving her a dose of reality is "shaming" then that's ok too. Remember that we are talking about a wedding here. Not going clubbing. If her friends and family exemplify the wedding guests, then it is rather selfish and rude for the bride to throw that in their faces like that. Reality is reality. We cannot always do whatever we want to do without any boundaries. We live in a world full of adults. If her wedding was for nudists, perhaps it would be different. But the reality is that her family is extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed. She would be spitting on the faces of people who are there to celebration her marriage. You don't think that behavior needs shaming?

My dislike for very sheer wedding dresses stems from a single thing: I can't concentrate on the bride's face in them (and I'm a heterosexual woman). I personally feel that these dresses take away the focus from the person getting married, showcasing a mere body instead. As if it didn't matter who's in front of the altar as long as they're hot. Again, this is just a personal opinion, and I also believe that it's possible to find something sexy but not overly revealing (like the first or third dresses. I LOVED those.), but for me, completelly sheer is just too much. Of course if someone wants to wear a sheer dress for their wedding, it's their wedding, so go for it!

But why anybody thinks it’s appropriate to walk down that church aisle essentially naked in a transparent gown before God and giving an eyefull to all your loved ones, friends and family… The women in the shops would say to me, “we CAN put a lining in to the dress IF YOU WANT.” Like girl, yes I’d want. Not true. One of the problems with today is people can't deal with truth or criticism. Shame is a useful tool and teaches lessons quickly. People used to accept it, buck up and continue on without it being made to seem it was the end of the world. It was clear that they had all discussed dress design before ever going to the Shop so it wasn't a surprise to Mel that her mother felt that way. Also, keep in mind, that's a TV program and it's produced by it's creators to illicit a response from viewers.

@@retiredleo3577calling your daughter vile is not constructive in any way. Yes this is a tv program, and we are commenting on denise's appearance on this show. Not her character in real life. We don't know her irl. But here, in this scene, she's very destructive. If denise is concerned about how the other guests would judge her in that dress, she can do so with a little compassion rather than straight up insulting her.

She didn't call her daughter vile. She called the dress vile. Otherwise, she would have called all the dresses that, right? Otherwise she would not have gone to the appointment, right? Otherwise she wouldn't have liked the last dress, right? Not everyone is toxic just because they have opinions. Mel knew her mother would not approve of that dress, because they talked about it before the appointment (they both alluded to it). Mel took pride in embarrassing her male entourage. Why would someone prefer to embarrass her wedding guests? Taking pride in one's new body is different than highlighting that the bride made her Brazilian wax appointment before the wedding are two different things. A wedding should be about the bride and groom, not discussion of the bride's crotch tattoo that is on show. A bride who wants to simply shock the wedding attendees is having the wedding for the wrong reasons.

Well, the bride was set on getting that dress. You don't think that the mom, me how was paying for the dress, should have not done what she could to discourage her? They all said that the fiance would absolutely hate it. The family was embarrassed, as were her friends. The "look at me and forget why we are all here" dress was unreasonable. Sometimes unreasonable decisions need to be strongly derided. There is notbing wrong with the mom shaming the bride for thinking that dress was appropriate. IMO, that was the only to keep her away from saying yes. Besides, the bride didn't feel shamed. The bride didn't feel demoralized. Why are you policing the mom's comments when the daughter doesn't take issue with it?

In this video, more than once you commented on liking dresses that had absolutely horizontal elements. That final dress -- the not so Jessica Rabbit number -- had that horizontal drape right around the largest part of the hips. For me, it destroyed an otherwise beautiful gown!
