1:04 Those are Mii costumes you could buy with in-game currency, they gave your Mii the stat of the character so that Mii played like Wario. It was honestly one of my favorite thing about the first Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter games, wish they brought it back.

In that old sonic 100 m, he might be pausing to buffer his start. Stuff like that is very common in speed running to get frame perfect timing
