Great video. It's funny that folks are complaining about dealing with people wearing headsets. This type of complaint goes back to the introduction of the newspaper.

I just saw the recent video about the move to LA. I know a lot of the big RU-vidrs are based in LA, but I always have a soft spot for NYC based RU-vidrs, because I love that city so much. I figured for sure Sara would make a return to NYC at some point, it just seems to be in her heart and soul, but then again, LA looks like it can be an exciting place. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

Thanks! A few thoughts: -If you look at the developer materials that Apple provided at WWDC, they are definitely envisioning fully-immersive content, including games, as a big part of the app ecosystem for this device. I think Apple decided to downplay the VR side for the keynote in part because their built-in apps are AR, and partly because the gap between what they're doing and what their competitors in this space are doing is much more obvious on the AR side. -The fact that the battery connector is proprietary doesn't necessarily mean that Apple won't license it to third parties. If there's no on-device battery at all, though, hot-swapping is not going to be an option no matter who's making the battery packs. What I predict you'll need to do is to plug additional USB-C batteries into the charging port on the included battery pack. Also, if someone can find an existing VR headset that provides better than 2hr battery life, please point it out. These are power-hungry technologies; 2hr seems to be about what existing battery tech can provide. -Meta's investors are annoyed because Meta has been burning money on R&D and then selling its headsets *at a loss* to try to establish market dominance. Apple is not going to sell its technology at below cost. And if you look at non-Meta headsets, especially if you consider the cost of the PC build that's required to support the tech in use, a $3500 price tag is not at all unreasonable. I think Zuckerberg is just jealous because the Quest Pro has been a flop as a productivity device. As someone who hates the laptop form factor and has used an iPad as my main personal device since 2010, I'm seriously tempted by the Vision Pro. It does what I would need a personal daily-use device to do, provides better experiences in terms of movie-watching and multitasking than my iPad, and just *feels* like the future of computing.

The $3500 price tag was definitely initially shocking. Then I saw how much the material cost was and realized the kind of tech was in this thing, I soon realized it was not as bad as I thought. It's like a juiced up MacBook Pro but uniquely futuristic. I'm contemplating whether I could get through the rest of my life with one kidney.

Great Video and thanks for following up! How was the audio and do you feel like people will just put on their air pods? How was the heat levels as you had it on your face did you sweat or hear the fans running? I have lots of other questions but I think little details like that would be nice to know as others really didnt talk about it.
@Co-opSource
@Co-opSource 11 месяцев назад
I know you asked her but to answer your questions: Audio is good so no need for AirPods unless you want more privacy as there is some slight leakage as happens with all off ear designs. Heat isn’t noticeable and the silent fans (which are also noise cancelled via speakers) do a good job of venting heat up & away.

I think most people don't understand and comprehend how amazing this technology will be. I think the biggest negative that turned off and spur the negative outlook was the Price point. Yes we understand this is a first and I'm not fully against the price since just the parts are well over $1500. What people don't see is once we have good competition how this type of technology wont just be for business and consumers, it will trickle down to Education, Schools and Universities. Future Children will be able to visit Ancient Ruins and see how Engines were built and see History around the world and learn so much more. Visual learning is extremely important and this is a giant leap for that. Again once it becomes affordable many will embrace this technology. I love the idea and i hope it becomes mainstream.

The best thing Apple did was to do a whole lot of product demos with tech reviewers and developers and have THEM talk about what it is. And damn, perspectives from people like you have made all the difference. I simply refuse to get ‘impressions’ of any RU-vid reviewer who hasn’t personally tried the product now.

Watched commentaries by Linus and Marques Brownlee. Considering how these two were so "enthralled" By Vision Pro, i envisioned a massive fail if Apple doesn't deliver. But, also I daydreamed about all the other non-entertainment adoptions by scientists, drone operators, online learning platforms, manufacturers, medical and military scenarios. By accident, I came across a Swiftui teacher/developer @twostraws. While he might be a fanboy, he shared his viewpoint: Apple maximized and refined SwiftUI as the core platform for Vision Pro's API. Familiar tool, easier adoption for developers. And yes, he was very hyper confident about its future because of that prep rolled out to developers over the past year. Maybe there's room for both visions, social Zuck and Apple's spatial computing. Both have the capital to ride out initial bumpy road.

Note on the battery It does have a usbc plug in. That’s what allows for it to be plugged into the wall. But I can see people that plan to travel with it carrying an external usbc battery pack. Kind of like Mophie for the phone. But we will see if more power options come along in the future

Enjoying your channel. Very insightful. And you are hilarious. Apple headset…more bad hair days here we come? Raccoon circles on your face after an hour? Would prefer a clear lightweight full-face shield, about 2 inches from my face…kinda like an acrylic shop mask. Or just a pair of glasses. Would breath better. They need to think of extended wear comfort and ergonomics. I think they certainly will have to refine it pretty quickly. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

I'll also note that I'm one of the people saying "I'll wait for version 2.0 or version 3.0", but in my case the only things I'm looking for is: (1) lower price, (2) lighter weight, and (3) better battery life. I can accept carrying a battery pack, but I'd like at least 3-4 hours on a charge. I'd buy *this* headset right now if it cost me under $1000. I am confident that those are all things which we can be pretty certain will improve in future versions. The headsets I've seen from other companies fall so short of "usable" (for me, at least), that I have no interest in them as their technology exists right now. It is not a question of price. I'm sure they'll improve, but they need much more substantial improvements to the hardware before I would use them. (It is important to note that I have no interest in VR-based games, so I'm just not the target audience for many of the current VR headsets).

Cleaning is my concern, we can't avoid being sweaty in the season. btw, do you feel tiring (eyes and neck) while working with this device? I mean in this MR/AR you have to look at what you are doing, but we don't always need a direct eye sight at our task in real life. I imagine too much focus jumping could become tiresome very quickly. If the user must be looking at the current task, does it mean the user cannot be multi-tasking?

1:38 Let’s remember that at one time, Bill Balmer of Microsoft was interviewed about the iPhone after it was announced. He literally laughed, and then gave their thoughts on where Apple missed the boat. And now where are we? Where is Zune? Where is Windows Phone? So - Zuckerberg talking about how it’s not social. Bull. They talked about FaceTime. It’s not JUST social and about connecting. FaceTime allowing for SharePlay. Watch movies together. IPad apps available - game on it. New gaming possibilities. Call Family and Friends and see them right in front of your face instead of on a device you hold in your head. Expensive? Remember how expensive CD players and DVD players were when they first came out? Honest question - Battery pack - I get it, but didn’t they also say you can use it plugged in? So - long cord maybe? Or a different battery pack that you can actually plug regular cords into?

Super Interesting Sarah! Not a Mac user (because I deal with CAD) I use 4 screens, and if needing other info like spreadsheets etc, this isn't enough. So the concept of it replacing screens is really interesting. Frankly the $3500 cost is way less that 3 or 4 large (ish) monitors

ABOUT YOUR WEBSITE - only on the first page looking at it from my iPhone Pro “Big” the two text boxes at the bottom. It’s hard to read the little font. I have to zoom in. Especially on the green one the contrast of a little tough to read. I could kind of make it out on the peach one above it. So I don’t know with square space if you’re able to change the phone view of the font and bump it up a little bit. But it’s a very pretty site. I’m going to look for your podcast on it. Thanks the beginning indicates you do a podcast.

I currently have five monitors on my desktop for the combination of work and personal activities I do in my office. The amount of screen "real estate" that this offers is incredibly appealing to me. I like the idea of pulling on a headset like this and not needing a desk at all. Just a place to plug if for long sessions. Theoretically, and this really depends on personally usage, you could eliminate the need for a desk, 4+ monitors, etc. This provides a different perspective of the price point. Though I would really like the iterative generations to go down in price as the greater the adoption the more developers are incentivized to design for it. I had a lot of thoughts about potential products that could be developed and sold (movie studios selling an "imersive" setting for a move release as one example) for headsets like this. I'm sure there are people who could come up with a LOT more than my thoughts.

I love the look of it. The software part of is beautiful. At least from the images I have seen and demos. Is 3500 too much, I would think it all comes down to what you are willing to pay. It would not kill me to lay down that much. Certainly going to wait until I can see it first hand. I bought the very first iPhone unseen and every version thereafter. But this I feel like you have to see and use it to appreciate it.

Great video. Ignore criticisms about Apple’s “positive reviews”. They actually have not had an overwhelmingly positive release since before the iPhone. The iPhone will “fail” the iPad will “fail” the Watch will “fail” and my favorite “Apple silicon will fail!” The VAST majority of users are NOT Apple customers and that crowd needs constant assurances they made the right choice. Apple’s decision asking tech RU-vidrs and traditional print journalists to actually try the Vision Pro was brilliant. You KNOW most if not all of the existing tech from other companies and can honestly convey their fundamental differences. Apple highlighted how their device will allow users to interact in the “real” world not just while in the virtual. Parents concerned about being completely oblivious will appreciate that functionality.

I don't understand the trouble with the batterylife... Just plug-in a powerbank🤦‍♂ One powerbank usually supports up to 100Wh increasing the (probably) 37Wh batterylife to 137Wh and thus ~7hours without swapping the battery (which can even be hotplugged) This increases the weight in bagpack or pocket by ~300g obviously. But I mean, its 7 hours of "unplugged" batterylife...

Yeah, but then you have the main battery pack and another battery pack charging that... I would've preferred if they used a MagSafe-USB-C cable to connect the headset to the battery pack, then you suddenly have a lot more freedom for using power sources.

Many of you reviewers missed one big thing that this device can address and that is for people with disabilities. This device has the best integration of high fidelity sensors of any AR/VR device. This device's sensors for example that could allow eye tracking to control a wheelchair, lidar could be used like a sonar with the spatial audio for blind people. Unlike the first gen iPhone this device has the app store behind it. Yes, the price tag is out there, but with all things eventually it will come down. This device should be thought of as a test bench for software developers rather than for end users. It will be interesting to see what developers come up with in the half of year they get to play with the dev kit.

concerning your comment on "cell phones were already a thing" before the iphone, we could go to the tablet market which had been hobbling along with several failed attempts throughout the aughts to make them a thing, and then apple released the ipad. I think many people forget that the iPhone, didn't start to do iPhone numbers until the 3Gs or iphone 4. Same for watches, which I think is closer to the Vision pro situation than the iphone. There were many smart watch attempts when apple released an unfocucused scattershot product that was pretty expensive, People were quick to declare a Apple failed with the watch, but they learned and focused where there was interest and with each new version gained more and more of the market. There are many things they chose to NOT highlight with the unveil and demos, I think they are deliberately going out of their way to differentiate for what meta has shown while also being very early, I can envision more vr features creeping in as it approaches release and after. Just like the stylus situation for the ipad, why would you want one? but a few years into the line, "hey check out our pencil!" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as for the cost, I think this is kind of like the iphone 1 release where they made the thing that makes the designers happy, regardless of cost along with limited supply of components they need. They asked Sony if they could increase their production capacity and were turned down. So it's priced in accordance to how many they can make, among other things. With this model they can learn how to make them at scale while not creating an insanely marked up scalping market, which could still happen.

Zuck is still crapping his pants from the keynote to this day. He may have made those comments about Meta Quest being more focussed on social, because they're a social networking company, but in the end Quest users are also by themselves while using the headset. There's absolutely no difference there with the Vision Pro. Worse, the Apple headset is much more open and social with actual people nearby if you choose so. And if you want to interact with people online you can, but with a much higher resolution and image quality. Apple didn't showcase any games or social networking because they simply don't exist yet and Apple is notorious for not demoing stuff that doesn't exist yet. They don't overpromise with the risk of underdelivering. So it's up to the developers now to come up with great content for it. I think that's also how the vision pro is supposed to be regarded. This version is a public prototype in a completely new product category. Personally I think it's a good thing it's so expensive. It's not ready yet for the general audience. It needs a lot more content first. So let the studios and developers who see it as a worthwhile investment get their hands on it first to create that content and then release a cheaper, lighter version to make it as big a success as the iPhone.

First of all Apple is a Software and a Hardware company, not a social media company. They're business to business and business to consumer focus, whereas FB is more for general public. Very heavy. They went with premium materials like metal, and that makes it untenable for long sessions. I'd have to lay on my back to watch a movie. Which, that might be cool. But I could also buy an 80" TV. Worrisome? I almost bought the Valve Index, but then decided I'd put that money toward a Sony A7IV. Then I almost bought it again and bought an upgrade for my car. Then I almost bought it again and did something else. Because the price of the Valve Index is too high for what I'd get for the money. The Apple Vision product is even more expensive, and I'd rather do anything else with that money. Most people would just buy something else. That's the problem with VR. When the VR space has a Valve Index grade product for 499-599$, I'll buy one. I think that's where most people are. It'll be a hot minute before most people adopt.

i feel like i need to compare this event along the lines of when years and years ago they announced the Segway or the first folding screen phone. those events were severely overhyped and oversold and deployed too fast. i think apple is letting this sit for the next 6-8 months to let the hype regulate and the devs develop. if this had dropped this month it would be chaos and it would fail fast. giving it time to enter the consumer pschye and slow roll will allow them to see if any other manufacturers bite and drop other devices. apple can legitimately afford to play the long game here and they appear to be doing just that. is it the next iphone? the iphone was the next iphone when it first came out, but no one knew it at the time though.

It's not an iPhone moment. I think it's better to compare this to the introduction of the Macintosh. Personal computers were still new at that time. Yes they already existed in some form, but the general public did not know what to do with them. PCs were mostly used in offices to do work stuff. With the Mac and later with MS Windows, computers became so much more accessible for home application. And this new way of interfacing with a computer through images and a mouse to point and click instead of typing commands was absolutely mind blowing. And still people reacted similarly. "What on earth would I need a computer for" and "I'm not going to be staring at some screen all day" and a mac was crazy expensive at the time. The vision pro is also an introduction to a new era. It's not just a headset. It's a computer with a totally new type of interface. Yes, it's easier to look at a laptop screen than to wear one on your head. But the first laptops were also super clunky and heavy. Give it time. I think we'll be there within 5 years. Not 10.

I highly doubt that this is going to be "the next big thing" people say it will be or that it'll be the main way people use computers from now on. I personally don't plan to get one and don't really get the point very much, but I could see it becoming something that's somewhat popular, perhaps especially with techy people, gamers, or other niches. Probably not super mainstream, though, or something that's "necessary" like a smartphone.

People say they will wait until they realize that something is against time, like's your kids' 6th birthday or your grandmom's 70 year old birthday. It is not like an iphone, where you can get something with similar experience using your current phone(that is actually what I do). It is the moment that once you missed it, it only stays in your memory and fades with time. This is the only memory capturing AND experiencing device in the market right now. I am not buying the product, I am buying the experience.

When it comes to the mask I use to umpire both baseball, and softball. When you first start out it effects you. After you have umpired for a period of time you do not notice the weight anymore. If the Apple Vision Pro battery pack has a USB C port to recharge the battery you should be able to add another battery pack into the mix. So my Apple Garden would be Apple Watch, Apple iPhone, and Apple Vision Pro. Looks like a KISS solution for this old normal.

research already shows demos with thin vr displays as thin as fat glasses ...it has to be wired to a processing unit with battery but it won't be a box on your face forever and yes it will be for everyone at some point because everyone will want the equivalent of holograms around them

Honestly i think the main thing here is the UI and how they one interacts with it. Screens, processing, passthrough, those will all get better for the competiters relatively quick but experience is what bothers me the most in VR right now. Trying to work in VR and movine windows around, interacting with traditional apps (especially when trying to point and click with controllers) feels clunky and frustrating. Even just having the eye tracking to help with selection while still using controllers would help a ton. If the user experience is functional and intuitive enough the hardware can be just "good enough" for a while, and get better over time. Hoping this inspires people to think differently about how to build their apps for VR/AR to make more sense for the platform.

Pretty cool to see my comment at 3:42 in the video! I still think Apple isn’t expecting a lot of people to pay $3,500 for this thing and are playing the long game by releasing other models in the future, but I still personally have fun with VR (I have the PSVR2 and am loving it), it’s just that as seriously impressive as the Vision Pro is, I still see myself spending more playing games with PSVR2 right now than browsing web pages and looking at movies in Vision Pro (if I decided to pay all that money for it). I know Apple knows this, and they definitely aren’t expecting to sell many of these for the first few years until releasing more mainstream versions, but that’s definitely all part of their plans

As for the social aspect, you’re going to see that no other platform is going to have a better social presence. I currently have all the meta-products and going to someone else's home environment is spotty/hit or miss. Horizon worlds looks like something that should've come out 10+ years ago. Mark Zuckerberg showed avatars that should be coming out within the next 5 to 10 years. apples avatars are almost there now. The point that was missed is Apple wanted to show that this product is more than just a toy. They could've showed a lot of gaming. They could've showed VR stuff. They could've showed VR games where you don't need controllers for example, you can use Finger guns to represent a gun in the game. But they specifically chose not to do this because they wanted to establish that unlike all the other headsets this is something you could use for work. It’s like as if Alienware were to show a gaming PC, but it only doing work.

Magic Leap is not out of business. Instead, the company now focus the business customers like those of HoloLens. The current CEO was from Microsoft and was interviewed by CNBC the next day after Apple Announcement.

I think this would be great for reading books... You don't have to hold it, and the (Apple) system would be able to keep track of your place in the text.
