The lyrics of Shadow reminds me what Yoongi said: "On the day we perform at the AMAs I end up crying in the shower. Those weren't tears of accomplishment, those were tears of fear. [Because] this is so much more than I had ever imagined and thought possible. For me, none of it had been expected. So I suddenly felt so helpless in front of the enormous pressure about the future". -SUGA, 2018
Suga once said that he only dreamed of reaching the 15th floor but he finds himself on the 60th...the fame, the power of their influence..that must be terrifying too..and the price they have to pay for it
Anyone else loving how this is Sera’s first exposure to BTS. Imagine going in knowing the reputation they have (especially in Korea) and then hearing a song like this...my mind would have been blown (I mean it still was but you know what I mean 😂). Not many artists discuss this aspect of their journey (especially from a psychological perspective as BTS is) so it must be shocking and refreshing to see someone of their status being so open/honest about the hardships/costs of gaining success/popularity/recognition.
@Ruth I think she meant watching the music videos cuz you know theirs no mv for truth untold and many ppl who aren't a fan of bts knows the songs too ...I guess truth untold was the only song she heard about bts .. Just like me when I was not an ARMY the only song I know about bts before was DNA and I only listen to that song and knows nothing about bts .. When I finally got expose to bts is when I heard spring day and focus deeply into the mv and lyrics and from then on I became an ARMY 😂 ...I hope she becomes an ARMY too after watching more mv of them
dude I immediately imagined this song in the award show, Suga rapping and singing his heart out in front of the whole Korean audience and idols. If younger idols are gonna be there, I'm so sure they'd be so inspired by this.
For those who don't know or have never even heard about Sera, she was one of the members of the girl group Nine Muses. Right now, she is an independent artist and RU-vidr who likes to expose different kpop groups (Dreamcatcher/CLC/etc) and also covers different kpop songs. I hope you guys give her lots of support, love and try to dig in her content! Hope you like your stay here and if you ever feel curious, you can try out her old Nine Muses songs like Glue, Gun, Wild and more. Sadly, the group has disbanded but the songs will always be there to add to your playlist and enjoy! This information isn't complete so if anyone wants to fill in and add more, please do so! Hope you guys have a great day :)
Sera’s reaction to the lyrics is ARMYs reaction to every BTS comeback, they always comeback with lyrics that really pierce the mind and one’s heart, always letting ARMY in on the positive and negative aspects of their journey. 💜 There’s a lot more I could say (about the storyline or how this song connects to Jungian psychology) *but I just wanna say* I was really proud she realized that last section was SUGA’s shadow talking to him 😂👏👏
it's actually her first time watching BTS OMG !! that's very surprising I hope Shadow opens the door for Sera to learn more about BTS and their artistic journey because they deserve every single inch of the hype they get.
I'm honestly so glad she reacted to this. This is such a fresh respective as she herself has been in the korean idol industry and i am SO curious about what she thinks about them. I am SO curious about her listening to BTS songs and what are her thoughts about the lyrics! Will be anticipating more as so far she has only reacted to girl groups. Will keep waiting for a BTS reaction down the line :D
I'm pretty sure she must have heard spring day and also fire, coz those songs are massive in Korea, so she might know the songs but not know it's from BTS
It's kinda along the same line as his collaboration with Halsey "SUGA's Interlude" where he is wondering what happens if, when he achieves all his dreams, he doesn't like it anymore. Fame and fortune isn't all it's cracked up to be... And I think he's wrestling with that and trying to come to a peace about it somehow.
Yep, and thus it ends abruptly with a temporary truce between the shadow and himself. Since this is the interlude, we were only introduced to the human condition. The remedy is yet to come
@@zenzenzense1562 It can't be the remedy if the cause of suffering still persists. I believe the true remedy is the realization of the pure Self. I don't know if BTS will expound on this, but I think the cause of suffering is desire. So in order to rid yourself of the shadows, you must get rid of the desire of the spotlight. Self realization is that state of pure consciousness and joy, where no desires for the top, riches, materialistic objects are left. And it connects nicely with Jung's theory of persona, shadow, ego and self.
I think this is a great way to be introduced to their songs/mv's tbh. It captures a lot of our favorite things about them. The depth and power and sincerity of their music. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
JoAnn Mosby very well said. Hence the huge fandom from 20s-50s. Not a usual demographics for kpop but bts is sort of outside the box for that category already.
Everyone is talking about how Suga expresses his worries and fears of rising to fame, but I feel that the song and trailer has even more to say. One way to interpret this is that although Suga has all these worries, his shadow is the side of him that is giving him what he needs to keep going on. Hence "I wanna be...etc." is like the constant drive to rise higher despite the worry of rising too high. And as he rises higher, his shadow becomes bigger because as he develops more worries, his shadow becomes stronger to counteract those worries. All the symbolism in the trailer show this concept of his shadow growing stronger, like the shadow people grabbing onto him, the lyrics stating his shadow becomes bigger, the sudden darker sound and faster beat in the later parts of the song, mirrors shattering as Suga breaks the barrier between himself and his shadow, the end of the song with his shadow stating we are one, etc. And after all, Carl Jung's theory is that one must continuously acknowledge and accept one's shadow, and this trailer spectacularly portrays that.
i just want to say this: i absolutely ADORED the way you watched that song; the underlying respect that you immediately had for an artist's raw, emotional song had me floored. also, your personality is just very likeable lovey! keep doing you, and i hope you stay happy!
Not a fan of BTS, but lyrically its very much on point. Basically, if you aspire to fame, fortune and to be the best and biggest, are you also prepared for the hardships, struggle and endless stresses that come with it? The constant scrutiny? The attention? The lack of privacy? Do you know what you're really letting yourself in for? Thanks Sera!
I felt so pround while watching and hearing your thoughts about the music and lyrics. Not a lot of people understands what the song is about because the first thing that you hear is interesting sound and powerful beat but the lyrics are actually very accurate to what he feels and what he's going through. It's so nice to hear a positive opinion from another musician. I'm so glad that you liked this song. Sending love, Army
I love how genuine your reaction is, although I'll admit that I was a bit surprised that this was your first time hearing their music. Suga (민윤기) is particularly good at rapping in a way that personifies aspects of himself and having that part speak back to him as a reflection. He does the same thing in his song First Love where he describes his relationship with music throughout his early developing years.
in 3minute, suga said bout his dreamt, then he face reality of reach what he want, then finale is how he solve it the lyric when he said dont let me shine is because the more close u to the light the bigger ur shadow is, when u flying higher the more hurt when u fall, thats why he have this side (worried) the emotion of human how they have hig dreamt but when we reach, we realiz theres dark side behind what we chase that make we want to stop or feel scared
I loved your reaction. It was very authentic. I would recc you to react to these more in the future 1. Persona Intro 2. Who is BTS? Introduction to 7 members of BTS? 3. Spring Day 4. Singularity 5. Fake Love Thank you!
Suga is very outspoken when it comes to depression and anxiety. He's mentioned on numerous occasions how he has suffered from it, and has made several songs about his depression, and even songs to help those with depression. His solo song 'The Last' is definitely the most blunt about what he's been through, and is therefore arguably his saddest.
Love bts’s music so much, lyricisms is their strength as a group so I totally agree with Sera when she said Shadow was poetic. Thanks for the video love you ❤️
omg sera i'm so glad you checked this out! shadow is one my favorite songs of them, like you said it's so poetic and yoongi's rap is just great. if you'd like you can also check out yoongi's mixtape "agust d" his lyrics always amazes me especially "the last" and "so far away" they're the most beautiful and emotional songs i've ever heard i'm sure you'll like those songs. love you so much 💜
First time watching your videos, and knowing now that you were previously in the industry gives a totally different vibe of reaction which is great. I think this is the first reaction video I’ve seen which mirrors my own reaction , as most just nod their head to the beat and are too hype to bother fully interpreting/understanding it. Definite sub.
Cute reaction ! Sera i'd love to recommend a few of their songs to you Answer: Love Myself by BTS , Seoul by RM (their leader) and First Love by SUGA (the one who did Shadow trailer), you don't have to do any reaction, i hope u enjoy the songs and have a nice day !
This might be the only reaction where someone is actually listening to the lyrics and see how thoughtful and deep they are instead of screaming, fangirling/fanboying, bopping their heads and saying how good his hair look. I feel like music is all the same for some people, just to bop their heads and vibe to it. I agree that it sounds good, he flows, the beat is great, but the message is the most important thing in songs like these. Not knowing anything about BTS and the members except their songs and live performances doesn't really help with understanding and appreciating the message either.
For a rap song from this rapper (Yoongi/Suga), check his mixtape's (AgustD) song The Last. Read those lyrics. They are honest and raw as is the music. He writes and produces what he does. Incredibly talented.
just found out abt her n this channel from twt. alrdy binge watched all bts related videos. so far im liking her way of reacting. n supposedly reaction to be this way bc u first watch, consume all the details in mv or song then find out the lyrics THEN only u make commentary. unlike certain, if not all, reactors keep on pausing video, commenting as if they alrdy undrstand the song after 5 sec hear it 🙄 maybe bc sera is also an artist so she knows what to observe within mv or song but yeah thats another reason on why we shd watch professional reactions instead. keep it up sera!
As you are an Idol and experienced idol life yourself. I'm sure you can relate to the song more. Its sad but so poetic and hits hard. Being famous isn't everything.
Thank you for reacting to them! And since this is your first time its the perfect one. Yoongi ( SUGA) really killed this one! He is my favorite member. Loona & BTS are my two favorite kpop groups of all time and they have amazing discography's
the first time i listened to shadow i had a weird reaction where my head was moving to the awesome beat but my heart was so sad... bts have talked about their struggles with their sudden fame often in the last few years so the topic of this song isn’t a total surprise to army, but it’s still heartbreaking to think about. you mentioned the beginning being very straightforward, it has to do with their second album “o!rul8,2?.” at the end of the intro song, RM asks the listener to think about what their dream is, so yoongi begins shadow with the same instrumental and by stating his dreams. but then he goes on to talk about the reality of achieving those dreams and the shadows of this persona. i recommend looking up yoongi’s poem “what a relief.” bts really love army but they love each other even more. thank you for reacting to them, i hope to see more bts reactions if you’d be willing 💜
just want you to know that what i and many people believe is when the beat changed it's the moment where suga's shadow overtake. it's the shadow's turn to talk :)
Thanks for reacting to this! Suga (the rapper) has talked about his worries before with fans, members and even released a mixtape on it. I'm glad he's addressing it directly in their comeback album this time. BTS make very real, genuine music and their lyrics truly can heal people. I hope you take an interest in them. :)
This is what makes bts currently the biggest group in the world; their versatility and powerful meanings behind their songs, the way they put so much philosophy and psychology in growing in their discography that makes the whole world go speechless when they hear their music. They’re so ahead of their times it’s crazy. I hope you make some time to listen to their music it’s really fascinating.
This is if you want to understand the ''Shadow Interlude'' more --> The last Comeback Trailer BTS had was called ''BTS Map of the Soul Persona'' and RM was the one performed, wrote, composed it. Shadow is a direct continuation in the ''storyline''/message to Persona. So if you want you can react to that to get a better understanding as it takes from the same source material ''Jung's Map of the Soul'' :) Loved your thoughts btw :) will be watching you more frequently
Her face was like: wtf I just watch? 😂 But seriously this song and the MV has a deeper meaning, one side is Yoongi who wants to be the top but at the same times he feels lonely, his shadow is talking to him. IHis past self was running towards “the top” and then all of a sudden, without realizing it, he arrives at “the top” which is why he halts at the edge of the stage that was filled with “shadows” It's the echo if his past ambitions and perhaps a conflict between still having ambitious desires and the burden of fame, of achieving everything you dreamed of and still feeling fear, still feeling lonely and feeling conflicted between your true self and self that is presented to the public.
I think Shadow is so sad because it's so honest. You watch and know this is real fear. It's scary, watching this, because it's scary to have the kind of pressure and expectation and exposure that BTS have right now. I think even those of us who have never lived anything like this can understand that the top isn't a comfortable place to be.
Thanks for reacting you are great at expressing the video's depth.. new sub here.. great covers your voice it's good soothing.. will be waiting for new ones..
I would love to see Sera's reaction to Black Swan, and maybe this upcoming album also, would love to have her thoughts as she is also from the same industry
Thanks for the reaction, since this is an interlude, I recommend you check the intro:persona, you can see the differences and the parallels in the visual and the lyrics to shadow. I think some of the symbolism more appreant if watching those two one after the other. Also I think it gives overall better sense of that they reflecting about with their current map of the soul series.
I'm happy for you that you get to discover BTS for the first time! A little bit envious too. ;) I'm subbed to be with you on this journey and see you enjoy and take it all in 💜
thank u so much for giving us an amazing, precise analysis once again. you're so sensitive and caring, sera, we can see it in everything u do. hope u get to see more of them 🥺💖 love uuu
Thank u for reacting 😭💜 they always have deep lyrics but beautiful meaning sometimes can be sad and beyond happiness. Overall it was really mind-blowing and amazing 😊
OMG Sera 💕 thank you for spoiling us with 3 videos in less than 24 hours! I’m officially a Seraholic now!!! 😍 This was very helpful to understand the lyrics! I’m so surprised that it’s first BTS video you ever watched 😄
