I honestly thought this battle was the closest of the 2019 GBB. The main reason D-Low won in my opinion is because he controlled the crowd better than Colaps.

Your reactions feel sincere, and i appreciate that. I think the judges mark down points for 1. Musicality, 2. technicality, 3. Originality, 4. Showmanship.. While D-low is doing alot of advanced techniques, his strong points are originality and showmanship. Within these 4 judging criteria are different things to keep an eye out for, e.g. Musicality could be things like musical structure and flow, drops and buildups go under this of course. Technicality is both combinations of sounds, patterns and variety, but I think technicality also covers things like breath control and the clarity/cleanness of the sounds. Originality I think speaks for itself. While Showmanship is both stage presence and gimmicks (some bring confetti or different things to help the showmanship), but can also be things like crowdcontrol - a thing D-low is a master of - Just take this battle as an example.

D-Low actually reacted to a bunch of GBB 2019 battles including this, and he said he didn't counter the end of Colap's first round because it was too hard to copy on the spot

This was probably the closest battle of GBB 2019. Don't let the 5-0 decision fool you. Amazing rounds from both and will forever be a classic battle.

Bear in mind what D-Low does at 4:50. Colaps actually fell for that trap during Dlow's 2nd round opener (6:58). Great anticipation indeed, Dlow had the crowd during that battle, that was the decisive factor.

A liproll is not a basic sound, it took me like 2 months to get the normal liproll. But getting it to sound bassier it took me like 2 more months. But that's just cause I haven't been practicing it everyday lol. I'm still learning how to do more variations and getting it to sound deeper xd. I totally agree with you about Colaps having both rounds. The battles were really close but Colaps in my mind did take both of them. His second round was absolutely insane. The judges had D-Low as the winner I think because D-Low had the extreme crowd-hyping drop in his second round. Wasn't as technically difficult as Colaps but it was powerful. And feel free to conclude the judges made a wrong decision, because their judging is definitely swayed by their subjective sound and routine preferences! Their judging I suspect is a lot less objective than you would think. Also, I think your most powerful sounds if you were to develop and practice them would be an inward lip roll like what Napom does, and throat/vocal bass like what Codfish does. I'm pretty sure deeper voices do mean deeper throat basses too, which means yours should be cool. Most people call the lip sound you made in the video a lip oscillation or lip buzz. Excited to see what kinds of sounds are your strong and weak suits!

Damn you're really hitting the craziest battles lol. Feel like this one is a really good example of the classic Tech vs musicality style (sorta, just a good contrast of styles). And really, it could've gone either way the battle was so incredibly close. Holy youre going through a crazy catalogue of just, nuttiness lol idk how else to describe. True about the unique style. I believe it leads to a lot of unfair comparisons among the fans. Since it almost requires some techniques to understand difficulty, there will be a lot of people who just latch onto their favorites at the expense of the other guys. Sorry for spamming but it’s all about difficulty+ originality+timing+presence. Using off tempo/hard time signature shit gets points. All of the judges are professional beatboxers as well. They rotate every few years. Napom been a judge for last 3 years but this year he’s competing and I’m so stoked for it

Lip roll is actually also mostly an inward sound. Basic lip roll doesn’t use breath, but you do need to pull in air through the side of your mouth. Bass lip roll is a similar position but takes a lot more practice and requires breathing in using your lungs.

Colaps second round was insane

There is a thing called stage presence that judges look for in battles . Colaps was good but he was just doing his own stuff like you know what i mean , he was not reacting with the stage and crowd that much . So D-low got one extra point for that and he won. But one D-low said that this was one of the most difficult battle in his life

I think the reason D-low won is just because his rounds had better basics . Collaps sticks to mostly percussion and syncopation, with a little bit of bass (not very strong though.) D-Low on the other hand displayed that he has the percussion while also singing, having nasty bass, and controlling the crowd.

WHAT IT DO, I just want to let you know something that I would've appreciated to hear when I was learning the basic stuff in beatboxing. The lip roll took me 3 months to learn. I practiced every single day for almost 90 days straight, and this is what I want you to hear: I noticed NO progress whatsoever, until I, out of nowhere, heard myself make a sound that was *slightly* similar to a lip roll. I immediately started recording myself doing it and I was trying to force myself agree to that it was actually a lip roll. I kept practicing for another month and it got better with time. When I learnt the lip roll at a decent level I could also learn sounds like inward lip roll bass, and once you get those sounds down your "sound vocabulary", or "sound stash" becomes so much wider. My point is; the progress can seem to have completely stopped - but if you just keep doing it even when you don't feel like anything is improving, you'll still get closer than where you were before you decided to keep practicing. You don't seem to have a lack of motivation since you express true joy when you watch beatbox and you seem to admire the sounds they're doing while making a little attempt yourself, but I'm saying this because it would do ME so good while I was in the spot you're in right now - so it might do good to you too. Just hearing "I was recently where you are right now, just like everyone else once was. You'll improve, just don't give up" would motivate me so much. I was close to calling it quits, but now I'm beatboxing every second I'm awake and it's one of the things in life I enjoy the most. I look forward to watching and listening to you evolve. You're already one of us, and the more you learn the better it gets!

As a beatboxer of 10 years, D-low clearly won this in every category. These judges often rate each round out of 10. I give D-low rd 1: 9, Rd 2: 10, Colaps rd 1: 8, rd 2: 9. Overall the D-low had cleaner and better structured beats, and his rebuttals were on point. Collapse was a bit all over the place (it’s what he do) and his base was really weak compared to D-Low

Dlow definitely is more versatile than colaps. Colaps has great technicalities but dlow knows how to please the crowd and has variety in his beats. Check B-art vs D-Low you'll be amazed by dlow's performance.

and btw liprolls are not based on your own tone of sound. liprolls naturally sound deep and there is one liproll called Yoi liproll which sounds high. I believe you got to breathe in your lungs as well as doing your liproll and kind of make a gasp sound while doing you liproll.
