As a wild card contestant would not be allowed to win first place. The rules would not allow a foreign singer to win. He was asked about that and cared only that the audience injoyed his singing. The people that controlled the program thought he would last one or two programs, and that would be the end of that. He sang that song ( SOS ). The program received 60,000,000 phone calls, e-mails, and texts. The people loved him. They had to put security around him. He taken second place because the first place spot was promised to another singer. All Dimash said was, I may not have won the million dallors, but I'm leaving with 60 million new fans. He is really humble, and not motivated by money. He truly is inspirational. This comes from a 76 year old cement Mason. I'm truly glad I have lived long enough to hear one of the best singer in the world. He truly sings at the next level in his craft. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of hard daily training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 15 languages so far). But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills. He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. It`s a staple in his concerts, has performed it many times, with some variations, and used it for many types of tributes. At first it was a showcase of his range and capability to mix vocal styles. In 2018 and 2019 it became a tribute and gentle goodbye to his friend Denis Ten, kazakh figure skater who skated to SOS in competition and were planning to do a show together, but Denis` life was cut short by thieves trying to rob parts of his car. Then Dimash also used SOS as tribute to artists that died young, and rolled images of them on the stage screens in his concerts : Whitney Houston, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Gregory Lemarchal (young french singer who also covered SOS and inspired Dimash to cover it too ; he died of cystic fibrosis at age 23 ; he used to sing like an angel even when he only had 25% lung capacity left), Chester Bennington, Amy Winehouse, and many more. He also used SOS as a gentle philosophical "deploring" of the human condition, living in a world that can be quite painful sometimes, rolling images of natural disasters, or the burning of Notre Dame, or exhausted pandemic doctors and nurses etc. Since 2022 he just left SOS a stripped down philosophical song. I was Dimashified the first time I heard this song. It was from a reaction channel. The performance was from the Chinese show Singer 17. Dimash sings his songs differently at each performance, so people will often request a specific one. Some are much better than others, some are just personal preference. Have a great time! It is true that he has classical opera training but he also has training and contemporary music and a musical theater. He calls his style neoclassic, some refer to it as classical crossover. This song is in French, one of the 15 languages in which he has performed. You also have not yet heard his lowest nor his highest note. My understanding of SOS is that the soaring vocals in the song mirror the lyrics - the idea that the singer, who feels so low, wishes to soar like a bird and see the world from above - hence the vocals repeatedly starting very low, then rising up quickly through the octaves to bird-like notes - like a bird singing (like when he sings the line "Si jamais c'était plus beau") and the desperate, swooping high-pitched cry at the very top of the range. Hard to think of a more perfect song for Dimash's voice. I've never seen the original rock opera but I know some of the songs from it.

Maria, please forgive me for the length of this post. I am a Dear and a Geek which is a lethal combination. Another thing about Dimash is...much like a opera singer he always puts himself into character. This song is a perfect example if you watch his emotions all the way through this performance. While the song speaks to all of us and emotions that we struggle with in life sometimes, the song is also from the 1978 French Rock Opera "Starmania". As in most opera's there is comedy and tragedy. Lead character Johnny Rocket is fighting against a totalitarian force. During a battle the love of his life "Cristal" is killed and dies in his arms. When Dimash falls to the ground and cries out at the top of his lungs he is actually in character because Johnny Rocket does this in the opera screaming over Cristal's body while singing this song. Dimash truly makes you feel the pain of that moment. I've heard this song sung many times over the years by many people and there is not one person that makes you feel the suffering of that moment like Dimash. Hope you watch it again and watch every single expression on his face while he performed this magnificent song.
