from 9:38 to 9:51 I really love how Stupendium wrote censored lyrics to both rhyme and tell a narrative

Basic outline: We Happy Few takes place in an alternate history where the British lost WW2. The people of Wellington Wells did something horrible to survive - something so terrible, they're all mandated to take an amnestic/euphoric/hallucinogenic drug called Joy on a daily basis. Your character starts out by going off Joy, finally seeing all the death and decay around him, and trying to learn what happened.

I thought the story was they won WW2 but this one town was tricked into thinking they lost so they did said terrible thing, and after learning they didn't need to actually do it and they were tricked that's when they started taking joy

@@Fangria The lore of WHF is surprisingly deep but essentially the US never joined WW2 so Britain was left to fend for itself and eventually lost as the Germans made it to the main island. As they made it to Wellington Wells, they struck a bargain to the people of the town. They would be allowed to govern themselves but in return they had to do the Great Terrible Thing. Though as Arthur later figures out, the tanks the Germans posted outside of Wellington Wells were just cardboard phonies [they probably had to go budget to cross tanks at all onto the British islands].

5:43 There's a bit of that "two sides" thing going on, but mostly it's just that Dan is playing a specific character from the game, "Uncle Jack", who appears on propaganda broadcasts in the town. (He did the same character in his own We Happy Few song, too.)

There was a meme sometime ago, when someone took a photo of Keanu sitting on a bench and looking sad. (he later said that he was just hungry)

By the end you pretty much have the plot down. A pill was made called Joy which is essentially like them being on acid all the time so you called that, it makes one perpetually happy and unable to see or feel anything bad. The end sequence of the video of them coming down from the Joy and seeing reality and being come after is literally the start of the game😂😂

Ah, We Happy Few. Incredible, imaginative story, absolutely godawful game with an awful development hell. You basically got the story down, though. Basically, in an alternate version of World War 2, after the Germans occupied Britain, the town called Wellington Wells was complicit in allowing them to occupy it. They could have fought back, but chose not to out of fear, which led to everyone in the town falling into a deep depression, which led to the creation of a medication, called Joy, that is effectively antidepressants on steroids. It manipulates what you see, makes you happy, and makes you completely forget about everything bad that has ever happened in your life... and in Wellington Wells, it's a cardinal sin to ever be off your meds. If I had a nickel for every time Stupes made a song better than the game it's based off, no matter how good the game is to begin with, I could buy... well another game of Monopoly, probably.
