I was just about to type something along the same lines, I knew he'd either love it, or think it was stupid, I'm really happy to see he's on board though, because this is an amazing concept.
I knew this was something you’d love. The mechanics are from the IR sensor on the joycons. For example, the piano keys have reflective stickers you put on the back, so the camera can read which one is being pushed down, then output that to the switch itself. For the RC bug stuff is controlled from the vibrations and rumble of each joycon.
The piano works using the right Joycon IR sensor. Each key will break the IR at different distances. Also, those cardboard rats objects are using the Joycons HD rumble. Have you ever seen your cellphone move a little when it vibrates on a table? Basically the same idea here. All this is just fucking genius. Never in my wildest dreams would I have predicted this.
The HD rumble makes those thingies move! And the right Joy-Con's IR camera "reads" the notes being pressed on the piano, thanks to a reflective sticker!
You know people are over reacting when Joshy likes Nintendo Labo. I think Nintendo Labo is a great family project type thing. I can't wait to build all these with my cousins.
Ben Hudson the guy is mocking your last comment for completely misunderstanding that other people have different opinions and that some people DO want to buy a Switch because of Labo
i think with the piano cus you put a joycon at the side the ir can measure the distance you move your hand (pushing a key) so it knows what tone to play?
I really love this. It is something me and my family are going to want to buy because...what can I say....we love to use our hands. Nintendo Labo has just been my greatest video since today. I cannot wait to get this and play with all of my family and take the time to be creative and embrace the kid I have in me. (Considering I am a kid...) Anyway, have a good day, Josh. I hope you like it just as much as I do.
Super Sig - Puyo Puyo fan what do you think about Puyo puyo tetris? Although, I havent played it yet, I have 20th anniversary on my phone and its amazing.
Talked a bit more on the business side of the Labo in my new vid - good point you made about the cardboard format reducing the amount of redundant, hard-to-dispose-of plastic accessories that tend to accumulate in our homes!
From what I've heard, it's the IR camera and hd rumble in the joy cons that make the cardboard do the technological thingies, but I don't know how it works I just know I want it
This is it, this is the prime example of Nintendo being unpredictable. While everyone was talking about porting Smash4 Nintendo comes out of nowhere and gives them a box, absolutely genius. This is the kind of magic only Nintendo could ever create AND deliver on. Of course there will be those who will try to compare this to failures like the xbox kinect and there will be those that will say Nintendo has finally lost their way, trying to be too innovative while losing track of quality, but this could never be more incredibly false. Nintendo is a company that rocketed to the top from risk and innovations that paid off because they cared for fun, imaginative and exhilarating experiences that no one else dared to offer. So please next time you disagree with Nintendo’s decisions look a little deeper and see the passion that flows through the entirety of the company and as always, Best of luck Nintendo.
Just watching your reaction, it's like the light of your childhood came back to you as you were watching this and hope was reborn. Also, apparently this is all controlled through the motion controls, the IR sensor on the right joycon, and the HD rumble. Super neat, I never would've thought of stuff like that. I love it
i absolutely LOVE this idea!! Ever since i was little i would create projects based off nintendo like the clay pikmin or paper mario dioramas or Zelda drawing cut outs. This is that creativity i miss from nintendo!!
For those who are wondering. The IR camera of the right joy con is used to detect movement. If you check the video, the right joy con is mostly stationary in most of the contraptions.
Im was so happy seeing your reaction! Its creative, it will be useful and its eco friendly. The HD rumble is what allows the jitter bugs to move! So fking cool! Christmas mornings will never be the same lol
Seriously so excited for this! As a teacher, this will be perfect to align to our science, technology, engineering, arts and math curriculums! I’m sharing this with all of our parents and staff!
the controllers have a sensory camera in them so they can judge distance, thats how it works, the piano works by pressing a key and moving a piece of cardboard in the cameras sight
say goodbye to cardboard that you can replace much cheaper from Nintendo or by cutting it out yourself with the FREELY available instructions. Do the research ;)
Nintendo Switch reveal trailer is shown: "What the fuck is this? A portable Wii U?! An underpowered tablet?! What trash!" Goes on to be the fastest selling console in history. Nintendo Labo reveal trailer: "This is stupid! Cardboard?! What trash!" Do people ever learn?
Tbh I thought Josh was gonna hate this, but it's nice to see him excited about it. I personally don't think I'll buy those kits unless they make really cool games compatible with that.
This might be one of those things like VR where a good chunk of people see the price point and flip. You get those early adopters, and eventually the price drops a bit or enough people vet it.
This would've appealed to the childhood wonder of the younger generation of yesteryear. Unfortunately, building things isn't exactly on young kids fun list these days. Personally, I like this cause we used to do things like this when I was kid. So this is RIDICULOUSLY risky. Also seems like they're going back to their toy maker roots.
Nintendo Beyond my concern is will their be an attention difference for them due to the difference of one bein physical and one being digital. Nice to hear your on board though!
*For those worried about the price Nintendo Will Freely Provide Cardboard Design Patterns For Labo* _"IGN France confirmed that Labo Kits won’t actually be required to play Labo games, the cartridge or download will be all that you need. Cardboard design patterns for the various games will freely be provided online, meaning that you can replace or build parts with just about any material, provided you’re crafty enough."_ www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/01/nintendo_will_freely_provide_cardboard_design_patterns_for_labo
Good old HD Rumble and Joycon IR sensors, baby. If it works like it does in the trailer, and I'm a little skeptical but also hopeful, this will be amazing. The $70 price tag SOUNDS high, but you're not paying for the cardboard - you're paying for the development costs that went into this. Designing this stuff, given that it all actually works properly, would be freaking bananas.
For anyone who doesn't understand how these work: let's use the Piano as an example. How does it play each key? When you press the key, something moves inside of the box. The red (right) Joycon has an IR sensor on the bottom of it, which - as shown in 1-2 Switch and Nintendo's statements and patents - can detect both shape and distance of an object. Thus, it detects where there's movement inside the box, and plays a corresponding key.
some people are disappointed but they don't see the potential of this shit.. imagine it like lego, there are basic stuff to build from a instruction paper and the one you build yourself.. imagine the mods of these things.. THE MODS I TELL YOU
The things move with HD rumble.... I assume and rubber bands haha! I feel that they can add these things to main games, like Mario Kart with the gas pedal and wheel , Classic shooters with the gun or joystick.... Maybe even use the house for Tomodochi Life on the Switch haha
