REACTION to BAND-MAID "Influencer"

Thanks, Julia! Excellent review. Miku (rhythm guitarist and back-up vocals) writes most of the lyrics, including those on Influencer. In a recent interview she said, "The lyrics of influencer are about the self-approving influencers that are so common among young Japanese today" (although I think it applies to all countries). MISA said in the same interview that Influencer was her favorite song off the new EP because of the fun bass line.

seeing Band-Maid live is a worthwhile goal. Being that 2023 is their 10 year anniversary and coming off the success of last fall's US tour, you can expect them to tour this year.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛 and happy new year! "Influencer" was premiered (live debut) on Sep.7, 2022 at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo in Band-Maid's pre-US concert. Just so you know, I witnessed it at the venue😄. (They played it 11 times during their US-tour thereafter.) This MV was filmed at a famous and old stone quarry (Ishikiri-Sanmyaku) located in Ibaraki prefecture, north of Tokyo. Kanami, the lead guitarist, was very scared when she stood near the brink of the cliff but she could defy the fear once cameras started to capture her playing scene. [source : Gekirock News]. Saiki is singing "Hunky Dory" repeatedly. It sounds to me, an aged Japanese, a kind of word play or pun. This phrase is very close to Japanese expression "Honki (本気) Dori (or Tori 撮り)" that means 「本気」= serious, earnest, sincere" and 「撮り」= filming, recording, image capturing". This is cynically suitable to what influencers do, isn't it? In the rap part Saiki is also singing "Always that one-upping contest, chit-chat chit-chat". "Chit-chat" sounds like "chicchai ちっちゃい" in Japanese. That means "tiny, trivial, frivolous, worthless etc." Miku's lyrics includes a lot of word play and Miku admitted she did it on purpose in an interview [source : Spice Oct.7]. ps. It's been Hunky Dory Days for USA fans, that's for sure! The Maids entire US tour was a fantastic success. So many great live fancams to watch! And they're coming back in May!! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! A live Band-Maid experience is not to be missed, if at all possible! Thx, Julia!

They don't waste time telling you to like them, they spend their time making outstanding music. So you like them, and so do I.

It's been a while, I thought the donut wouldn't click on Band-Maid again! They toured the States recently, I saw them live in Chicago for the first time after two long years of no concerts because of Coshit-91 and they're unreal. You're lucky though, they'll come back to Florida in a few months and hopefully add more shows around the country 🤘🕊️

Happy New Year Julia. I see Cherry still has her Christmas Tree up. You are right about the meaning of the song, plus there is some added context. During the lockdowns, Saiki was annoyed at what she saw on Instagram and other social media sites, and at how fake people were. She mentioned that to Miku who had just gotten the new song from Kanami. And so we have now have Influencer. On the video production, this was I think the second time the Ladies have worked with drone cameras, the first being their MV for Warning. While filming this, it was very hot that day and also humid. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions. Please give our regards to your parents.

Before I watched this video, I looked at your previous videos featuring BAND-MAID (Thanks for not usising the obnoxious, clickbait words "FIRST TIME HEARING!" in your titles.). As I am an old man, I would be interested in seeing which BAND-MAID song your parents would suggest for you to see.

Great reaction, but it's easy when you're listening to Band-Maid as their music and lyrics are always interesting and attention grabbing. One of these days they may write a song about their love of donuts and cakes.
