I lived right next to RAF Northolt. I used to play in the bomb craters in the surrounding fields when I was a kid. there's a memorial for the polish pilots who lost their lives and as a member of the boys brigade we would lay a wreath at the memorial every year and solute them. so many polish names to read. so much respect for them.

The Battle of Monte Cassino (also called the Battle of Rome) - actually four battles fought by Allied forces against Germany that took place in 1944. The losses in the New Zealand Corps were so high (3,000 killed, 0.7,000 missing) that this formation had to be disbanded. The Allies (Americans, British, Indians and New Zealanders) lost about 48,000 people without capturing the hill and breaking the Gustav Line. soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps captured Monte Cassino. 923 soldiers of the 2nd Corps died at Monte Cassino. Later we were betrayed, sold to Russia 25 years earlier, the miracle on the Vistula, Poland's war against Russia was won, until now there were 19 of them, but after 45 in Poland it was only happening...

The Polish army was the largest and most numerous army after the English, Americans and French. We lost thousands of lives in battles, hoping to return to the country, but they could not return, those who returned were killed by the communist regime ruling in Poland at that time. Of the 26 million Poles in 1939 to 1946, 16 million survived, 10 million were killed in various battles, in various circumstances, it can be assumed that 7-8 million of them were innocent civilians. No country in the world in the entire modern history has suffered such losses. Unfortunately, this is only part of the losses, we have suffered greater image losses (not only during World War 2) and we are still persecuted by other countries and nationalities. But there's nothing you can do about it, the stories are written by the winners and those who have access to the media.

Sadly that's always the case when you have no access to "marketing". The stereotypes/prejudice comes as far as the times of the Partitions- often literally from the German or other propaganda campain, aimed to lesser the support for Polish independence cause. They were spreading it for example in the US. All of this was to present the Poles as...backwards, dumb or whatever, the kind of people who are not worthy/competent enough to have their own country. It's exactly the same thing Britain was doing to the Irish, for exactly the same reason. Later came another problems, this time with the USSR, also diminishing Poland's role and history. And being controlled by someone else, you have no way to tell your version of the story. But this prejudices are dying out, if you meet someone who still holds it, you just know they're ignorant and uneducated and you move on.

@@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684 True and across the mainland UK, in the late 1940s and early 1950s, the original Polish communities chiefly comprised former members of the Polish Resettlement Corps.

Nah, you're not that bad ;) I don't know what kind of "lefties" you mean. It's our conservative politicians who always antagonize other countries.
