The song hits different when you find out that RM wrote it initially with “I need you, friend” as the main lyrics but he said he changed it to “I need u, Girl” because it sounded better to sing but he said to keep in mind it’s not about a romantic relationship, it’s about a friend. Which makes it way more meaningful I think. Yeah wow welcome to the BTS universe! It’s a wild ride and it’s super complicated you tend to delve into it only if you’re an ARMY who’s in BTS neck deep Haha! as it’s a lot. BUT I started with a summary video by xCeleste ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2-DEu3ZJtEU.html ) It was great, super helpful since I couldn’t access some of the materials needed to follow the storyline as it spans over Videos, a WEBTOON (online comic), written notebooks, a mobile game, etc... I recommend if you want to just watch a summary video and learn the basics if you’re not planning on delving into it fully 🙂 it’ll help you recognise when a music video is part of the BUniverse. The most recent instalment is the music video for “Film Out” ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zFT3f9biz68.html ) I recommend you watch it! It’s an amazing video and beautiful song! But I recommend you watch a summary video of the universe first otherwise it’s a bit confusing, but visual & auditory candy nonetheless if you choose not to watch the universe summary 🙂💜

You're close on JK getting his a$$ beat. Each of the boys represents a different issue that young people face in their lives: JK - homelessness, V - domestic violence, RM - poverty, J-Hope - addiction, Suga - suicidal tendencies, and Jimin - depression. It's not really clear in the video, but Jin has a father with extremely high expectations of him and sometimes he does things that he regrets, trying to get his father's approval. The BTS story line has been going on for 6 years now and includes music videos, short films, a webtoon, printed notes, and a mobile game. And we still don't know exactly what's going on. Good call on the cigarette falling on the money, since RM's issue is poverty. I hadn't put that together before you mentioned that. Are you guys going to actually go through the whole story line or were you just checking out a BTS video and it happened to be the start of the story line? It's one hell of a ride if you do the storyline.

The lollipop/cigarette thing is because in Korean media cigarettes and knifes aren't allowed to be shown in commercial stuff. The MV does have an age warning, but it's still not allowed. And they're idols, which means they're supposed to be role models for fans and the GP. Which is why they insinuated that RM was smoking by having him suck a lollipop and drop a cigarette on the floor in a split second.

The suicidal thing is a good idea, but it is soooo much deeper than that. This is the start of the Bangtan Universe (like you mentioned correctly), which is basically like the MCU (Marvel). And there are tons of theories, but there is an official overall storyline. The story is basically like Butterfly Effect the movie - crazy and none of them really miss a girl btw, they're missing each other and are dying and Jin needs to stop it from happening -- this is just a taste of the whole big ass universe we have now and fyi V killed his abusive alcoholic father. But yeah. Alternate timelines, timetravel, crazy stuff and lots of BTS dying lol. And it includes, books, lil notebooks in their albums, a webtoon, some live stages that had VCR with clues, etc. It's an entire storyline across different media and either you say you wanna commit to it and watch the Music Videos by order now and do some theory videos and explanations or you say you'll just enjoy the music and leave it lol.

Really glad to see you guys start the Bangtan Universe storyline....It's complicated, and takes some time, but the acting, the message, the aesthetic, the production in the videos, and the songs are all soooooooooo worth it!! If you continue with it, remember....no one has ever confirmed any of the fan theories that are out there, so just cut loose and go with it!! I wish I had the song list for the storyline in order for you, but I'll count on other ARMYs for that!!! I do know, that in this song, the "girl" is NOT a girl...it's more like "friend", but they changed the lyric to girl because it sounded better/flowed better. Also, in the storyline vids, the song lyrics are less important than the visuals of the mv, even tho the song lyrics and the music are wonderful...in So Korea, you're not allowed to show smoking on tv/vids....so they substitute lollipops for the cigs. JHope took the pills. FYI: the storyline is way deeper than a bf/gf relationship...

I’ve been saying this for years! Namjoon with the lollipop transitioning into a cigarette and then cut to Yoongi as the flames grow to engulf that room....one of the BEST directing forethoughts along with editing follow through EVER. It’s placement fits so well with the song climaxing.

I find this MV heartrending, overdose, bullying, mental health issues...well done to BTS highlighting these issues in young people. Great song too!

The video for I Need U doesn't really have much to do with the lyrics of the song. The original line wasn't I Need U girl it was I Need U friend, but I Need U girl flowed better so they changed it. This is the first video in the fictional Bangtan Universe storyline which contains many BTS videos, which I don't know if you are getting into or not. The Bangtan Universe is a long complicated story so if you are really interested about it watch the explanation by xceleste. In South Korea you aren't allowed to show smoking onscreen so that's why the lollipop is used instead of the cigarette but changes after he drops it. I don't want to spoil too much about the storyline but the pairings are important Jimin and J-Hope, RM and V, and Suga and Jungkook, and Jin is not paired with anybody. Also the man V kills is his father in the storyline and the girl that man was hitting is V's sister.

This song/album is about the pains of growing up/leaving youth behind. I think the lollipop --> cigarette scene is symbolic of this, because RM is working part-time at a gas station but the guy in the car is rude/treats RM as someone lower than him by dropping the cash on the ground. It translates to the youth like RM having their actual youth/spirit (lollipop) taken away by the harsh realities of life (lollipop turning into a bitter cigarette). Good catch guys!!

You guys had the best reaction I've see so far when it came to V stabbing his father to protect his sister in the MV. BUT the song is not exactly about a girl. It's more about teens and their mental state and what they sometimes go through in life compared to others. But the MV itself is actually a STORYLINE for the BANGTAN UNIVERSE these things didn't really happen to them just their characters. In this storyline it's a bit confusing to understand if you just watch the MVs itself. If you want to know what the whole storyline is about than you're gonna have to dig into a lot of stuff if you are a hardcore ARMY. BTS has a mobile game connected to this storyline along with a Manga Webtoon to help with the storyline. Recently they announced that they would be making a movie drama Called SAVE ME, named after the Webtoon series and they have already the actors for the drama picked out for the characters. BTS of course is not gonna be acting in the drama themselves for obvious reasons but they did try to match the actors to the SAVE ME characters.

If you continue with the storyline,you understand why.. Of all of this 🥺😯it is a hugh Universe!! Their own bts universe, it is a great story

It takes time to get an idea what the BU is about. It`s an ongoing fictional storyline for 6 yrs now and ARMY is still making theories. But the same time it`s absolut fun. i’m going to explain the storyline WITHOUT the conspiracy theories 2013 - 2016 and a bit of their from 2017 (every storyline is connected) , this is just the storyline based off what we know and seen, i won’t go in detail, only a little summary, march 2013 all the boys get detention and have to clean a storage classroom together, they become friends and turn it into their secret hideout, 2014 jin gets blackmailed by the principal to tell him where their secret hideout is (i don’t know why but i think it’s bc he basically told jin he would tell his dad he’s doing bad, and jin wants his dad to be proud of him, so that’s bad, that’s why he snitched) jin rats and a teacher catches yoongi and jungkook in the secret hideout playing piano together, the teacher slaps jungkook and yoongi pushes the teacher, yoongi gets expelled, btw yoongi and jungkook are very close, the friend group falls apart, jin blames himself so he moves to LA, a year or so later jin comes back to korea, 2016 april 11th namjoon gets in a fight and goes to jail, jungkook jumps off a building and passes, yoongi then sets his hotel on fire and passes, hobi has narcolepsy and on may 22nd he falls and hits his head, tae murders his dad, a talking cat appears and gives jin the ability to time travel, jin gets special abilities and without realizing it, he rests april 11th, after two rests he realizes he can time travel and has to interfere to save them, he saves namjoon and jungkook, it takes him 4 attempts to save yoongi, earlier on jimin suffered from a seizure and went to the hospital, hobi is there from the fall, that’s why you see them in the hospital, it takes jin a few times but he saves them from the hospital, but jin forgets tae, he realizes he can’t save them all so this time he leaves clues for the other members to save each other, and they live happy ever after until, jungkook gets hit by a car and hospitalized, yoongi blames himself and leaves, probably because he feels he’s no good for jungkook or unhealthy when jungkook needs him the most, jin who develops a crush and finds the girl after taking her diary, he’s going to confess but she gets hit by a truck, he restarts the day but he doesn’t meet her, however in the love yourself notes he mentions he does end up meeting her maybe a different location but only to return her dairy, here are some things that i didn’t put in the storyline as i was explaining it but it’s helpful to know (hobi and jimin they end up in the same hospital together. Hoseok is in the hospital for being addicted to pills and developing narcolepsy. This is because he was abandoned by his mother at an amusement park as a child. Jimin is there because his mother forced him to stay there because she didn’t want to deal with his mental problems, and his trauma from seeing someone either stabbed or killed (don’t remember) as a young kid, he also has really bad mental problems...) next one (it’s kind of a theory wether or not jungkook did this because he missed yoongi bc it was never confirmed but the rest is real apart of the storyline but we know yoongi and jungkook both do things or act out when they miss each other they are very close and save each other from sucide, especially yoongi i think??) when jungkook missed yoongi, He ends up purposefully bumping into gang members so they would beat him up, maybe to feel something, He ended up becomming depressed and jumped off a building all of this is from the reels, highlights, album notes, web toon, and the music videos, but there is a lot of theories that make sense bts never told us the storyline except for what we see, if you don’t want to believe the theory’s that’s the storyline without them, i’ll make a comment with SOME of the theories, just the ones i remember bc there are hundreds of thousands
