Like so many Canadians, QEII was the only Sovereign we knew from childhood into our senior years. It was always a given: our currency, our references (Queen's Privy Council, "God Save the Queen", etc). Even two years later it still feels jarring. I'm not a Monarchist, but I loved QEII for her grace and incredible sense of humour. I cried when she passed away. It felt like losing a close family member. She was loved and respected in equal measure.

I believe most if not all, horses from the Mounties, were her favourites and her favourites to ride.

Absolutely nothing is as mournful and beautiful as the pipes in a ceremony of remembrance. They bring me to tears every November 11th..

Same. Bagpipes, and the call of a loon on a quiet northern lake at sunset.

My parents immigrated to Canada in their youth with their families. My grandfathers were both in the Black Watch and fought in both World Wars. The pipes are a big part of my life. On a recent business trip to Edinburgh, I was lucky enough to take in The Tattoo, and some hiking in Glencoe. Scotland feels like home to me even though I was born and raised in Vancouver.

The Mounties led her funeral procession at her request. Being a piper myself, the cadence is preferred by vets due to the nice pace. I believe they are wearing the RCAF tartan. They are playing "Morag of Dunvegan" and "Dark Isle".

There are two marches in the Military, slow march and a full march, this seems to be halfway between the two, I get it, a slow march would have taken twice as long and a full march would have been disrespectful.

@@atomant451 - Both of those songs are considered slow marches but they didn't appear to be marching with the usual characteristic stutter step associated with it.

Mounties also lead the funeral procession in London. QEII was well regarded in Canada, because a lot of people had a personal fondness for her. It was more about her as an individual, rather than a monarch. Sufficed to say that Chuck is not as popular.

It is traditional for the bass drummers to wear a pelt from a big cat over their uniform, and under the drum harness. The ones that I have seen most often are cougar pelts (mountain lions). And I suspect that the various uniforms represent all the branches of the military and para military in Canada. I know the blue is airforce. Kilts are worn by the pipe band, and by regiments such as the Seaforth Highlanders.

Ottawa here. Bagpipes are my favourite. The ceremony was rather subdued and low key. Too much so, IMO.

Thanks for acknowledging the Canadians. We take great pride being part of the commonwealth. What good would it do if we didn't stick together!

Following the Mounties, the first unit of marchers are led by an officer wearing a Canadian Army uniform. The next three are also officers wearing, from right to left as we view it, the Royal Canadian Navy (navy blue double breasted), Canadian Army (green with beret), and Royal Canadian Air Force (air force blue) uniforms. The left column is RCN. The middle column appears to be all CA. The right column is RCAF. The ones at the tail end of the first unit of marchers are wearing the dress uniform of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Branch (JTF 2, CSOR, etc). The 2nd group is a mixture of officers and senior non-commissioned members. Possibly reservists given the few wearing kilts. The 3rd unit is, a military band consisting mostly of RCAF uniformed personnel. The pipers appear to all be wearing the RCAF tartan.

In my family the Queen was very highly respected. Always. Personally, I like Charles. He's a bit different but has very relevant concerns and acts on them - take a look at his environmental work. I think people dislike him for similar reasons. I don't feel Canada needs the monarchy and suspect that Charles will be the last for our country. Not a fan of his kids.

It appears only the marchers in the left column are RCN. The middle all appear to be wearing the CA uniform and the right side are in the RCAF uniform. The ones at the tail end are wearing the Canadian Special Operations Forces Branch uniform.

@@MikeGradyPDX Yes, I know. Shortly before I retired as a avionics sergeant in Cold Lake, my boss at the the technical school had been a Training Development Officer who wore the navy uniform. The admin sgt in 409 Sqn where I was a sgt before the tech school was army. You cannot really tell what someone's trade is from a distance. They could all be purple trades. Well except for the ones at the tail end. They are definitely Canadian Special Operations Forces Branch.

My elementary school day started with O' Canada, and finished with God Save The queen. With a month remaining in elementary school, I sang loud enough to be heard by the teacher, a parody version I heard from an older kid, "God shave her legs and in between" I had 3, 20 minute detentions consequence, and a letter to be signed by a parent. The letter didn't quote me, it just said I disrespected the queen of England. Every letter home from school, I gave to my Mom. My Mom never hit me, but she praised the queen. My Dad hit me hard 4 times, and ridiculed the queen. Who do you think I gave the letter to?

Canadian military were the only ones not wearing desert fatigues in Iraq. The Canadian military had none so they gave soldiers green forest fatigues. We looked like a bunch of losers. A lot of pomp and ceremonial stuff and no equipment and a shell of an army.
