Pretty funny to see a reaction video on my video! 🤣 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Would appreciate to get some credit in the description as well (the video you tagged is not the one you showed). Some points on Vancouver police. They use a lot of unmarked cars, but that does not necessarily mean that they are special units or ‘undercover’ (the actual undercover units would not have obvious distinguishing features like the push bar). The white Ford Crown Vic is a very old unit, which has the discontinued white livery that VPD used before switching to the black and white design. These Crown Vics are almost all retired now.

Your videos are very interesting (as someone who likes to see emergency vehicles from different countries - my 4 y/o son loves them too). I have amended the video link to the correct video and also added a message to link to your channel in the description, as well as pinning your comment. Thanks for the information too. Under cover or ghost car is the first. You can’t really see them until it’s too late! We have the RCMP which is National. A lot of major cities have their own force. Vancouver Police, Toronto Police, etc etc. My city relies on the RCMP. The SUV type are usually carrying dogs. To your question about moving out of the way for ANY emergency vehicle…YES! You cannot obstruct them. You try to make a direct path for them by pulling over as best you can. ❤️🇨🇦

I used to work at the Charger factory in Brampton, Ontario, where we made many of these police cruisers. Full size American (+Canadian) cars were traditionally used as police cars and taxis and were called "family vehicles" from their ideal purpose. Tough (low maintenance), roomy (big cop's 8 hour office), and gas at 48 cents for an imperial gallon (4.5 liters) wasn't even a thing yet! About this time(1960's) North American police organizations got together their requirements for vehicles. This was supplied by the "big 4 " auto makers and were called "police interceptors". They are best described in the "Blues Brothers" movie when one brother picks up the other, from prison, in an old police car he bought cheap at the police auction. "Cop springs, cop shocks, cop rims, cop tires, cop radiator, cop motor, cop brakes, cop alternator, cop battery." They were usually white, and we offered a universal, basic "POLICE" sticker markings for towns who could barely afford the car. Most cities did their own personalized markings and some American states ordered personal coloured cars (minimum 50 cars order). The main requirement was REAR WHEEL DRIVE, as the cops went through special training to "throw these cars around". In the 90's, RWD started to be discontinued, so, they switched to ALL WHEEL DRIVE. Stubborn cops kept their Ford Crown Victoria's (last RWD) when they were eligible to get a new vehicle, because the AWD SUV's tended to roll over in high-speed pursuits. In 2006, we stopped making the Front wheel drive Intrepid, and started the Rear wheel drive Charger, which was available in the Police Pursuit model. Charger was also available in AWD. Charger production stopped December 2023. Next Charger will be electric!

I find most cops are pretty decent to deal with so long as you show a bit of respect in your conversations with them. Most folks who have problems with the police have issues because they earned it by being disrespectful. You reap what you sew. A few years back, I had a cruiser pull up beside me on the highway and he just did a "wind it down" sign with his hand to indicate I needed to slow down. I did, and he went on his way. He could have stopped me. He could have given me a ticket for being quite a bit over the speed limit. But instead, he simply chose to give me a "non contact" warning. I'm cool with that. :-)

I'm in Ottawa. City Police have changed over to Ford Escapes. Provincial Police (OPP) use Dodge Chargers a lot as unmarked highway traffic. The motorcycle motorcade were likely part of a protection line for Prime Minister or a state vist President/Prime Minister. As for moving over for emergency vehicles, we are to all shift to the right when possible & if safe to do so. Within Ottawa, you will see: City Police, RCMP, Military Police & OPP & they all have different vehicles from SUVs, unmarked cars like Chargers, four door sedans (being replaced with Ford Escapes mostly) vans, closed in pickup trucks, motorcycles, boats, horses (used for show & for policing) and bicycles in the downtown/market areas in the summer.

Vancouver has something that every city in the world should have: Car 87. It's basically a police car with a cop in it and a mental health worker. They're sent out if a person who has been diagnosed with a mental illness and is supposed to get regular IM injections on a biweekly or monthly basis goes AWOL and disappears, or they're found, identified and police are called. That way you have someone trained in dealing with people with mental illnesses as well as someone who is familiar with that person's case file. What has happened in the US is that police are called, sometimes by the person having the psychiatric episode, and police overreact, aren't trained in how to deal with those situations and the person with the illness ends up getting shot. I worked in mental health in Vancouver for 10 years and the system was pretty good. Sure, there were situations where the client ultimately took their own life, but those instances were greatly reduced and their danger to themselves and others were greatly reduced because there was someone with the police officer who understood how to deal with such situations, and the cop also had basic knowledge. Obviously, the RCMP still don't have the greatest reputation, but I think they're improving somewhat with better training. I remember in high school, police cars were almost all base model Ford Crown Victorias, whether they were ghost cops or not. Many of them had almost no markings to indicate they were police, but usually they'd defeat all that with the words "police interceptor" on the back. Back in high school, a buddy and I used to laugh so hard at those guys, who thought nobody knew who they were. I think they've gotten a lot smarter now. But usually getting pulled over by a city cop is preferable to a federal RCMP cop, especially if the donut shops are still open.

The white car at the end is one of the last Ford Crown Victoria based Police Interceptors. It was the standard vehicle in many police forces across North America for years. Production ended in about 2011 (the retail version several years earlier). They were replaced in Vancouver with the Dodge Charger which is quite a bit smaller and is the sleek sedan in the video. Many police forces, particularly the RCMP, have moved to SUV's like the Ford Explorer (aka Ford Police Utility) and large sedans like the Charger or the Ford Police Interceptor (Former Ford Taurus X) which are very widespread these days. Pick-up trucks are often used in rural areas by the RCMP where gravel, dirt and snowy roads are common.

Yep, Dodge Chargers, very fast. They also modify the drive trains of their "pursuit" cars used on the highways to make them even faster. Robust vehicles like trucks are also needed for off road situations of which there are plenty of in Canada. Ghost cars can be smaller and non-descript. On Vancouver Island I saw a motorhome go by with lights and siren blaring! It's normally used as a mobile command.

Canada and the USA share *most* vehicle models (due to the harmonization between the NHTSA and Transport Canada). Certain manufacturers offer "police programs," which most police departments choose from, no matter where they are based. They use the same basic models all over the states. Each department has it's own set of requirements for light bars, push bars, and other mods. It's when you get to other response vehicles, such as ambulances, firetrucks, towtrucks, and SWAT vehicles, that you really begin to see some unique stuff...especially comparing across the border

Although I am from the USA, the police vehicles are the same. Traditionally they were full size cars with big V8 powerful motors to chase down the criminals. The old Ford Crown Victorias Police Interceptor and Dodge Chargers are special police edition vehicles for only police depts. They don't have the center console/gear shift so that all the computer equipment can be installed in the center of the front seat. They gradually have been replaced by the SUVs which have all wheel drive which is especially important in Canadian & northern USA. The pickups with 4 wheel drive are very important in the rural areas to travel off road and through the deep snow. The one unmarked silver car could have been a Hellicat version of the Dodge Charger to be able to run down the expensive and fast sport cars. Some police department purchase them to give warning to their citizens that they do have the muscle to chase. Not uncommon to reach speeds up to 150 mile/hr or more on rural roads with minimal traffic. You need to remember that Canada and the USA has hundreds of thousands miles of roads to patrol and the city streets are wider than most British/European street which require the smaller cars and vans.

Right, I don't think we learned much from this video because, anything can be a police vehicle in Canada once they are converted and kitted-out. And yes, there are even police on bicycles and horses in inter-cities. There are federal police, provincial police, and then there may be municipal police depending on the size of the city. There are under-cover vehicles (ghost, or 'brown-bag' cops) and then there are traditional marked cars depending on the jurisdiction with there own car branding. There are even police boats in cities with large municipal bodies of water and police snowmobiles and ATVs.

These seem to be from within Vancouver but remember that in many places the large city has its own police force, the province has a police force, and there is the RCMP for rural areas and smaller towns. Each will choose what vehicles they want, when buying vehicles the bureaucrats have to justify it so they won't buy ridiculously expensive vehicles but people do want the police to be able to get their job done so vehicles must be appropriate for the job. Different types of jobs may require different types of vehicles. Some people like to buy discarded old police vehicles but a police sergeant told me not to, the vehicles run practically 24/7 until the maintenance department declares they can't maintain that vehicle anymore. Some vehicle manufacturers try to sell to police forces by offering "police packages" -- then the police force takes the new vehicles and modifies them and equips them to their liking.

Those majority of cars with the tailight band are 2011-2014 Dodge Chargers. The one at the end is a 2015 or newer Charger with the rounder body style. I also saw one or two Ford Taurus cars. They're a similar round body style. The round SUVs are Ford Explorers and the big square SUVs are Chevrolet Suburbans/Tahoes. The truck would be a Ford F-150 and the big white van is most likely a Ford Transit 250. Over the last few years at least The Ford Explorer seems to be taking over as the main police vehicle over the Charger. Especially since Dodge has discontinued the gas Charger this year. All new electric Chargers starting for 2025. That motorcade with all the motorcycles and Suburbans is most likely the Prime Ministers motorcade. If you watch Canadian politics you'll know why he has a United States President sized motorcade when all previous Canadian Prime Ministers had nowhere the size of security.. Same motorcades are also used when a visiting countries leader/ambassador/dignitary is here to meet with the PM.

1:00 That SUV looks like a Chevrolet Traverse. That one and the Ford Explorer seen at 1:10 are common police vehicles all over Canada and the USA. The makers offer a special police version of these as well of passenger car types. . The Fords will often have badge on the back saying "Police Interceptor" 1:59 The motor cycle officers use either a US Made Harley Davidson motorcycle or a similar motorbike made my Kawasaki or other Japanese maker. The Japanese ones ride much smoother and are not as tiring to ride. 2:21 That is a passenger car based police vehicle. The Dodge Charger. Around 2018 all the US car makers stopped making most passengers cars except a few high performance models as well as a few luxury models. The Dodge Charger Pursuit was made for a few years longer and the police forces all over North America bought lots of them. Usually with a 5.7L Hemi engine with 370 HP. These are rear wheel drive. They can also get them with a 3.6L engine and AWD. I believe these have now ceased production. 2:50 That is the same type of car with a different paint scheme. 3:06 - The downtown area mostly and surrounding area. 4:37 Yes, you are required to give way to all emergency vehicles that are using either lights, siren or both. 5:00 That is a Ford 150 Pickup. Not seen too often. With 4WD it can do off road pursuits if necessary. It can also do 150 MPH. It is on Pender Street and the pickup is exiting Chinatown through that arch. 6:50 The vans are usually Sprinter vans made by the Dodge Division of Stellantis or sometimes by Mercedes-Benz. 7:35 Vancouver hosts a lot of important international conferences. That is likely for a head of state. 7:47 That car is a mid size car, the Ford Fusion. Likely with a V6 and Front Wheel Drive. It was discontinued several years ago by Ford. 8:34 That is the Ford Crown Victoria. Made in Canada. It was the standard Police vehicle for forces all over Canada and the USA. It also served in large numbers as Taxis. They were made from 1992 to 2011. They still have a few for less strenuous police jobs but they are expected to be retired soon. In the country on the larger highways, they may also use vehicles like the Ford Mustang and the like. These vehicles can all be seen with police forces all over the USA and Canada from coast to coast. I refer you to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_police_vehicles

Chevrolet Tahoes (rough country capable), Blacked out vehicles may be tactical, special details, or simply stealth. Transit Vans, sure. The Crown Victorias are mostly gone. Our streets and back alleys are less constricted than perhaps some of the UK environments. The Ford Expedition is uncommon but why not.
