Coke Studio (Urdu: کوک اِسٹوڈیو) is a Pakistani television programme and international music franchise which features studio-recorded music performances by established and emerging artists. It is the longest-running annual television music show in Pakistan, running annually since 2008. What a great way to promote established as well as up and coming artists and bands. I’ve noticed that Eastern style music has undergone such a renaissance making it readily available for all to listen to, and enjoy. I love the infectious rhythms within this track, and pleased to hear it sung in its natural language. I would urge everyone, irrespective of personal musical preference, to embrace music from all cultures. Sabina…you looked thoroughly absorbed throughout..loved it.👏👏

A Pakistani and a native Urdu speaker here. There are some things worth mentioning about the song. - The song is in two languages: Punjabi (a largely spoken regional language) and Urdu (national language of Pakistan). - The song is about heartbreak. English translation interprets it as a stereotypical heartbreak between two lovers but it's so, so much more. Notice how the male singer sings the lyrics with he/him pronouns. In Urdu poetry, these pronouns are used as abstract. This gives so much meaning and perspectives to the song. The heart break could be due to a loved one, a friend, a long awaited opportunity, social pressure, stress and depression, loneliness, family, anything. - Then when the Urdu part comes, both singers are singing in a yearning tone. The lyrics like "All I need your love" (similar to that) also implies that they are referring to God that all they need is God to overcome worldly heart breaks. - Urdu is a very philosophical language. That's why philosophy is the core of Urdu poetry. Another important detail is that the song starts and ends with the old lady. It's because old people know the true meaning a heartbreak and pasoori (haste, frustration). :)

It is so hard to pick out one special song from coke studio's productions. They are all so, so brilliantly beautiful. i lived in Pakistan in the late 50's. my father was an exchange teacher and we lived in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) where he taught at the university. I loved the music that my Pakistani friends listened to like, " Dil Mein Chhupake Pyar Ka", by Mohammed Rafi from the movie, "Aan". After listening to that you should be able to see just how progressive the music industry of India and Pakistan have become. I also love the song you showed, "Pasoori", especially the lines that both ali sethi and shae gill repeat twice, "Aa javay dil tera poora vi na hovay" (I hope you fall in love, i hope it breaks your heart) Listen to "Tera Woh Pyar" by Momina Mustehsan & Asim Azhar and hear the blending of traditional Indian instrumentation with modern studio instrumentation, and watch the precision that you can observe of the musicians when the video shows them. Also, from season 10, "Latthay Di Chaadar" with Quratulain Balouch & Farhan Saeed. These are just a few of the tunes I have enjoyed so much. I hope that I haven't taken up too much of your time reading this note, but I alsways enjoy communication with someone who enjoys the same music I do, as I am a working musician who plays rock, and country. bobby
