Most people do not realize Donna Summer vocal abilities, range and versatility. Her voice was naturally powerful and she can sing the high and difficult notes almost effortless. She was far more than a disco Queen. One of the greatest singers of all time. Such power, control and depth in her amazing tone. No one sings like Donna!!! Had number 1 hits until 2011 right before she died.

She was big. Donna and the Bee Gees dominated late '70s disco era. That song was a'60s classic by Richard Harris and also with watching. Great arrangements on both. Last Dance is one of her best. Yes women we're sexier without all overdone cosmetics today.

I have to add to this... Oh hell yes!! I saw her in concert when I was younger (9th grade)in 1979. It was also my first official concert too.. My older sister had two tickets and she asked me if I wanted to go..I didn't know what to expect.. I remember getting dressed up in corduroy pants, a shirt and suit jacket.. The show started a little late because it was a new venue (Buffalo Convention Ctr.) and the stage ,seating and sound equipment all were new...so things were a bit confusing at first.. But .there was..Donna.. patiently waiting at the top of the stairway stage. .Once the crowd settled down ,the lights went dim and the music started...Oh My Lord...She came down and started the show and I will never forget it!..I was so blown away by her voice..That incredible range and versatility.Donna sang a few songs at first (Once upon a time, etc.. FairyTail High..) then calmed everyone down by stating that this is a new place, new equipment so sit back and enjoy the evening..I remember her saying that she's played in alot worse places than this. Then she was on to the next song effortlessly singing..What a show she put on for the rest of the evening. The orchestra, the costumes..she was sexy, bawdy and funny at times. It is etched in my mind. Of all the concerts I saw after that...nothing compares .

I’ve always loved Donna Summer. She was so talented. Whenever she released an album I knew it would not disappoint. She was a Christian. She grew up singing in the church. She passed away from lung cancer years ago. I auditioned for a theater group in Washington DC in the 70s and sang that song. Of course, not like Donna! She had so many great albums like “Once Upon a Time”, “Four Seasons of Love” “Alive and More” “Bad Girls” “The Wanderer” etc. Her songs have wonderful lyrics and great music for dancing. I still listen to her music. Thanks for your reaction to one of my favorite entertainers.

Yes, one of the most powerful voices of all time... and, like you said, effortless for her! I LOVED her back in that day - I was 14 years old when this came out and it was on the radio all the time. I remember I had several of her songs on the 45 records. So very much dating myself. She and the other powerhouse voice of all time, Barbra Streisand, do a duet together and it will blow you away too called, "Enough is Enough".

I think she is one of the truly underrated female vocalists of the 20th century. I'd put her in the top ten for sure. And best of all, she was just a delightful person. I had the distinct pleasure of being invited to dinner with her and her husband once by her record company. I totally expected her to be every bit the diva that her reputation suggested. But no. She was soft-spoken, polite, approachable, kind, smart, funny...all the things you'd hope a person to be. What a talent, and what a loss when she left us much, much too soon.

I was 19 when this song came out. I was a rock guy but I was so in love with Donna Summer and her music. She was a beautiful gracious woman. I saw her live in the 90's at the westbury music fair in long island with my wife. She was beyond great with an amazing voice. She sang amazing grace and it sent chills down my spine and brought a tear to my eye. She also explained to the audience that she wrote one of her biggest hits " Dim all the lights" for Rod Stewart but he turned it down. She hits notes that are insane on that fantastic song.

I have never heard this concert version before though I remember the song from the 70's,its been jazzed up to a disco feel and Donna Summers does a great job,but originally it was done more as a ballad Macarthus Park and was sang by a well-known British actor unfortunately I can't remember his name but became very popular on the radio also I think in the early 70's,there is a video of it on RU-vid somewhere.

Jimmy Webb wrote this song about a girl he used to date. She worked at a bank across the street from MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, CA. He would join her for lunches in the park, and during one of those lunch dates it started to rain, and a family that was having a birthday picnic nearby had to abandon their food, which included a birthday cake. That's why it's in the lyrics. Weird, but true, and really cool. They did not end up together, but Jimmy Webb and his ex-girlfriend are still friends to this day.

OK, I'm fixing to make someone realllly mad, but here's my evaluation... I love disco, in spite of all the ridicule it receives (those who ridicule it probably can't dance!). I love the gorgeous Donna Summer/"Aunt Oona from Altoona" (RIP, dear sister in Christ). I love this fabulous Jimmy Webb song (dayum, that man can write songs!). But this combo just doesn't work for me. I remember when this song hit the air waves in '68. I absolutely loved it. I wasn't a big fan of Richard Harris, but I loved the song so much, I overlooked the artist. Ever since August 8 of 2017, the only versions I listen to now are the ones performed by Glen Campbell (RIP dear brother in Christ). *_That's_* a combo that works! Glen's vocals are far superior to Richard Harris', and to this day I'm flummoxed as to why Jimmy Webb had Harris record it since Jimmy and Glen were a match made in heaven. As if the vocals weren't enough, there's always a thrilling guitar solo that only Glen the guitar god can deliver. Unmatched perfection. I've seen references to Donna Summer's version in the comment sections of Glen's covers of this song. I'm glad I got to see Donna's version so I can make the comparison. No one delivers on this song like Glen. P.S. Ty, you're right. The sexy was much more classy back then.

Hey, Donna Summers was great... but when she climbs the stairs and does the high note.... there are two things that make me think there was some added sound other than her voice..... first, you see here pull the mic away from her mouth WITHOUT a change in volume like would have happened if it were live....also, after she pulls the mike away and stops singing, there is an instant where the sound goes away... but then comes back... these are both unnatural

yea they are overdubbed Not that Donna needs it, she's proven in 1000's of other live videos she can hit any note anytime and hold them for 20 seconds if needed - Her voice here was still very shrill and all over the place but Donna always pulls the mic away from her mouth during certain notes. watch her last tv performance where you can hear and see her at 62. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0o94dJr2SrI.html

Sorry, but she butchered the song. The original by Richard Harris was almost entirely accompanied by an orchestra. The song should be in four parts, Donna Summer did a version of the first of these but then there is a second song, an instrumental interlude and finally a reprise of the first verse. The song is meant to be about the memories of a broken relationship. This does not do it justice.
