The police officer was not trying to catch him. Just keeping up and telling others where he goes so they can put up a road block. Almost all of the police bikers in Finland are professional street bikers before they became police. So all of them are experts. If a police bike is behind you and tries to pull you over you might escape if you are in an air plane.

They are chasing him through Lauttasaari, Helsinki around 03:16, they turn to the center road of Lauttasaari and pass the Myllykallio Elementary school that's on the right side of the road, cannot be seen too well in the video but some of the smaller yard buildings can be noticed, then they speed through the busy central road, crazy! Then from 4-5 minutes in the video they get nearer and nearer to central Helsinki, crossing the bridge and leaving Lauttasaari (the bridge goes across a patch of the ocean, not river btw :)), but at 04:51 they turn back away from Helsinki to a highway. What a chase and nice Lauttasaari tour at the start!

Since nobody else havent really touched on police chases in Finland, ill open them up a bit. So when the chase starts, officers will make initial decision to either try to stop or let you go. Latter is the decision usually if continuing chase poses great danger to others, except if you are in city area and driving dangerously. (Like in this case) Then they will stop you any way they can. When the chase starts they will bring on bike patrols as they are the main chasing patrols using. With a car you cant outrun them. Those police bikes will just follow you and coordinate other patrols to chase and close out streets to push you out of city area. They have spikes and such to stop you, this case wasnt used for obvious reasons. In the video when the bike turns to farm, he did because it was third police roadblock. With the enough civilians to actually close out the road and force him to slow down. He spotted the officers and tried to flee trough the farm but couldnt. Usually police wouldnt chase you if they got your number plate, unless you are otherwise dangerous.
@zoolkhan
@zoolkhan Год назад
lets also not forget that the 2nd pasenger may be totally innocent - so stopping them by force would cause collateral damage to the passenger. it might have been a different storry, if only the criminal was on the bike. Then the safety of other traffic participants may be in danger if you NOT stop that guy. I am happy i dont have to make these decisions. our cops are the best.

Yes, there are indeed Baker Gangs in Finland. In the quaint yet bustling city of Helsinki, an eclectic society of culinary artisans known as the Crusty Gang has redefined the concept of flakiness and butteriness in the world of croissants. These are not just mere pastries; they are an epic culinary journey wrapped in layers of meticulously crafted, golden-hued dough. As you hold one, you immediately notice the exquisite weight distribution, a testament to the craftsmanship involved. The dough is a masterpiece, incorporating high-quality Finnish butter with such skill that the individual molecules of fat seem to be in perfect harmony with the flour. This gives the croissant an almost ethereal quality, blending richness with lightness in a dance of complex textures and flavors. No ordinary butter is used; it's a special blend of cultured and sweet cream butter, churned to perfection and aged just enough to hit that magical balance of tanginess and creaminess. The flakiness is unparalleled, resembling more a work of art than a food item. Upon biting into it, the croissant doesn't merely break; it shatters into an explosion of microscopic flakes, each a universe of flavor unto itself. As the shards of pastry touch your tongue, they melt instantly, releasing bursts of buttery satisfaction that trigger a cascade of dopamine in your brain. You'll find yourself instinctively closing your eyes, savoring the symphony of taste playing out in your mouth. This Finnish Gang of Bakers employs a secret lamination technique, a guarded secret passed down through generations, which involves a unique sequence of folding and rolling. It's a ritualistic, almost meditative process, carried out in the early morning hours, as the sun starts to light up the Finnish sky. This technique is said to involve not just 27, 54, or even 81 layers, but a virtually infinite number, as if they have captured the essence of fractals and integrated it into their dough. This provides a geometrically perfect escalation of flakiness that defies what was previously thought possible in pastry science. And let's not forget the buttery aroma. The smell alone is enough to transport you to an idyllic Finnish meadow, where the air is as crisp as the bite of an apple and the gentle rays of the Nordic sun warm your skin. It's a scent that lingers, not just in the room where the croissants are baked, but in your very soul, reminding you that somewhere in Helsinki, the Finnish Gang of Bakers is upholding the sacred tradition of creating the most flaky and buttery croissants known to humankind.

This happened in Helsinki. This caused a bit of a stir with people saying the police should have abandoned the chase and I tend to agree. Someone from the police did say though that the view from the camera may make things look a bit tighter than they were in reality, they may have had a bit more of a margin in those tight spots. The guy who was running from the cops had taken some drugs and decided not to stop. At that point where they almost collide the guy running away braked suddenly due to the police car ahead and the police motorcyclist couldn't brake in time so he almost collided. I believe he did hit the right side side bag on the other motorcycle and knocked it off.

I usually tend to think that "people" aren't the best at judging things they weren't a part of or know very little about in general. They tend to be more eager to voice out opinions than knowing things, very quick to jump to conclusions too. Often times the police here has a good protocol and cool head making decisions and leading the operation. It seemed to successfully follow through this time as well despite being a difficult one, if that's anything to consider. Here we have a single helmet footage and no other information on the operation.

The route went through from Helsinki-Lauttasaari-Ruoholahti back to Lauttasaari, to Espoo Tapiola-Niittykumpu-Friisilä-Suomenoja-Espoon keskus and then looped back towards Suomenoja. I know all the those roads well... but wouldn´t ever dare to even try to escape a police officer on a bike. I am fairly good biker myself but these finnish police bikers are something else and they train their skills a lot on the track too. BTW: bikes are ridden, not driven. These days finnish police bikes are updated to very fastest bike models there are available. Noticed how the police bike`s gearbox was miss-shifting a lot? I think third or fourth gear was in a bad shape already...

The motorbikes used by the police in Finland have always been top of the notch. I don't know what type of bike was used in this chase. The video was filmed in the year 2017. Starting from the year 2020, Finnish police has started to get new motorbikes. There was a review of the new model in the TM magazine 14/2020 (22.7.2020). The new tool of Finnish police is Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE. It is one of the most powerful and most advanced sports tourer in the market. The writer of the article did a test drive of the civil version of the bike, and he was totally stunned. The bike has a 1000 cc 4 cylinder mechanically supercharged engine that produces power of 147 kW (197 hp) and torque of 137 Nm. The top speed is electrically limited to 300 km/h (186 mph). The civil version of the bike weights 256 kg, but with the police equipment, 281 kg. It has all the modern technologies, such as traction slip limiter and ABS brakes that allow full braking while turning without fear of falling. The police version is equipped with radars both to front and rear direction. It has 3 cameras that can send live feed to other police patrols and to the control room. The register plate detecting system automatically warns about any stolen or otherwise wanted vehicles. And the navigation system shows locations of the other police patrols. Virve radio is used to send commands and digital information. (It is based on the Tetra network. Unlike commercial cellular networks, Tetra is very reliable, secure, and it works even in the deep forests far away of closest cities or roads.)

@mertfin : THE REAL REASON THEY FLED: to get ahead of the police enough to hide somewhere some illegal stuff that they clearly had on them. The passenger then ran away, supposedly to get rid of something behind the barn building: maybe drugs, maybe a gun or something like that. ;) The police were having a little conversation at the end, saying that they will get some dogs there to sniff the area, because "he definitely disposed something there". :) Edit: Ok - now that I read the other comments, it was a heavy load of drugs and driving under the influence of drugs. :D

Runners bike was m1800r and it weight like 330kg and is pretty damn fast bike too but he did have a passenger and propably combined weight close to 500kg. Considering that he drove pretty damn good. I had intruder like that and it is not an easy bike to ride.

And didn't know the engine or gearbox limits. Oh well the "coverment" is paying so no worries and the criminal was chased with ease.

Yes, there are Motorcycle Gangs in Finland. In fact, I was just minding my business working at a fast food restaurant, when the police arrived to arrest one of my coworkers who apparently was pretty high up in Hell's Angels or an equivalent.

We have motorcycle gangs here in Finland. Hells Angels, Bandidos and few others are called procent gangs 'cause they have 1% mark on their leather vests. It means that one procent of motorcyclists are criminals. They wear color. Hells Angels are red and white, Bandidos are red and yellow (gold). Other "normal" motorcycle clubs wear black/white. Few years ago all Finnish gangs/clubs took pictures of their logos and design of their vests and created a database to internet for all to see. I know this 'cause my boyfriend was the president of one black/white club.

Starting of this video, driving took place in North part of Lauttasaari, in Helsinki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauttasaari

Spoiler alert in this comment! Yes, the residential area in the beginning of the video is Lauttasaari, then they go to Ruoholahti pass the district court of Helsinki and then back to Länsiväylä West bound. Then they were off to Espoo country side, which is not my backyard. But boy this biker could drive - craziest thing is that he had a passenger sitting on the bike. Man, this video is super intense, and I cannot imagine how stressfull and also physically challenging this ride must have been to the passenger. No wonder he or she did not have any energy left when the ride was over.

I've managed to get away from police here in Finland many times by car, but its a thing everybody knows, you do not try to get away if the cop is ridin a bike. Not gonna work. With cars, they aint so good if you ask me

The reason this specific motorcycle police started chasing this guy was that they had a powerful motorbike, and this policeman had the only possible bike to keep up with him.

This happened in the cities of Espoo and Helsinki. The beautiful scenery was the Gulf of Finland and its many bays that break the coastline. So it was all sea that we saw on the footage. The escapee obviously was carrying drugs when spotted. In the end he tried to lose the stuff in the tall grass, and that’s what the police were looking for. I don’t know if they actually found the package. Nevertheless, he got some serious consequences of the reckless and dangerous driving. Perhaps, if the drugs were not found, the sentence(s) were less than what they would have been with the drugs found on him. Especially if the amout was big enough.

the finnish police have ktm adv bikes for offroad chases and kawa h2sx bikes for others, they might have some other older bikes lying around but I mostly see the h2sx bikes in the cities

Police bikes are normal street bikes with police equipment, so they are slower than stock bikes.

Hanko and Hangö in swedish like all the signs in Finland. The city is Helsinki at the beginning and soon turns into Espoo. And yes, it is the ocean.
