NORWAY was a developed and healthy economic country way before the oil, but we became werry rich after the finds in 1969.

It has a few inaccuracies in this video, mostly unimportant ones. As for the Free Roamiong, the ownbership of the land is irrelevant; the usage and proximity to housinng is. You're not allowed to what through, say a wheat field or animal enclosure or camp next to somebody's house or in protected areas. Other than that, you can in principle camp everywhere but no longer that two nights in a row, and you're supposed to leave as few traces of your stay as possible - no littering! There are also rules for when you can light an open fire (don't want a start a fire, do we?), you can't hunt without a licence but you can pick as many wild berries as you can eat. There are rules covereing certain areas and some berries (e.g. cloundberries in Troms and Finnmark) as to what you can take home. Norway has about 100,000 more people than Scotland - but rather far bewteen (about 15/square km) As for the traditional food, a lot of it was a result of poverty - how else did Scotland invent Haggis or whisky? (There were sheep and barley...)

Regarding the Royal Family. In my opinion it serves it´s place. Our Royal Family is WAY smaller and near to the people than most other monarchies. They are hardworking people representing Norway and travel all around Norway meeting the public. They are now in their eighties and still going strong. It is also seen as mordern and progressiv when it comes to old rules, letting their children freely choose their spouses etc. Our Crown Princess was a single mother when she married our Crow Prince.

Single mother lol I guess King Harald would wish that was the only thing not royal about her... Think Techno parties, speed, Ecstasy and friends with tribal tattoos 😅. and not forget her alcoholic dad, if u search up liability in the dictonary u will see his face. But hey the tabloid press loved him 😂

When I was learning English as a kid, I struggled with the R´s, so my mother said "Just say it like a scot would say it". And also some dialects of Norwegians have "Shaking R´s" that are strong. So, the Norwegian language (IMO) is similar to Scottish-english in some things. Also, my favorite Norwegian dish is Pinnekjøtt. A Christmas dish that is sheep-ribs that are salted and smoked, then steam boiled.

As a Norwegian, we are kind of proud of our monarchy. I think this stems from the fact that they don't have that much power nor live outlandish lifestyles.

Yes, we go camping everywhere. You're only allowed to stay at the same spot for 3 days. The Scandinavian countries+Finland constantly makes fun of each other. I live in a urban area, but I've been all over Norway, it's pretty much impossible to only recommend just one place. If you want to visit 2 museums in Oslo I would recommend the Viking ship museum(closed for renovations now I believe) and the Edvard Munch museum

We didn't leave Sweden, we kicked the Swedish King out in 1905 because he couldn't form a government, which he had to according to the constitution from 1814. The fact that the parliament had formed a government from ALL parties in the parliament and with parliamentarisme he couldn't just form a government without the parliaments approval, but that's beside the point lol. Anyway some historians considers it a coup :)

A couple slight corrections/comments to the info in the video: In regards to the free roaming law, we can hike and camp _even_ on privately owned land as long as we don't encroach on others' privacy. Actual over-night camping is not allowed within 150m of someone else's residency, unless you have permission. And if you are camping at the same spot on private land for more than two nights, you need permission from the owner of the land, regardless how far from their house you are. You are also allowed to harvest mushrooms, wild berries and flowers, etc, and saltwater fish from privately owned land, as long as what you harvest is not endangered. To hunt for wild game or catch freshwater fish, however, you would have to get a licence from the land owner. I've never seen mayo on a taco 😅 Cucumber? Definitely. And, yes, tacos are popular, but our "unofficial national dish" is undoubtedly (frozen) pizza.

I lived in the north of Norway when I started school. My mom only lasted 6 months before we moved back south again. Winter was dark.. dark when I went to school, some light while at school and dark when I walked home. Summer was very bright, no real night time. Besides that I only remembered the insane amount of lemmings o.O Dialects... yeah, basically all towns are a bit different, but mostly similar to their neighbours, but there are like very strong regional Dialects,. Most can be understood when speaking normally, but you will find people who speak... idk what to even call it 😂 Usually very small, very isolated villages, especially the older generations The part about the xmas tree is incorrect, the royal family was in London during WWII and we send the tree there every year. But Norway is close to Scotland, I remember I was on vacation in Scotland around the time Scotland was voting to leave UK (Im still for it) and I remember Norway being very for inviting Scotland to be part of Scandinavia =) As like, come be part of our family kinda thing.

Take a trip with Hurtigruten, its a "cruise" that starts at the bottom of norway and goes to the top. If you do this in the winter, I'd pack a winter jacket. But it shows off the best parts of Norway, honestly.

A childhood-friend (a Finn) of my mothers has lived at the very northernmost part of Norway for the majority of her life, in a small fisher village on the coast of Arctic Sea. Due to the Gulf Stream, winters there are actually milder than inlands. Sure they get a shitload of snow, and severe winds occasionally, but the temparatures there never get too low or too high, compared to, lets say, Finnish Lapland right next to the border of northern parts of Norway. -35 (Celsius) degree is very common in Finnish Lapland, but not at that village some hundreds of km north.

The weird food you saw is smalahove, half of a sheeps head that is smoked and boild (without brain). It's most common in the western parts of Norway, but you can find it all over Norway, and it's served in traditional restaurants in late autumn and until Christmas.

Norway actually got the 2nd longest coastline in the world after Canada, you can also camp on private property as long as you don't camp to close to someone's house, barns, other buildings or animals and you don't overstay your visit.

Favourite places in Norway as a Norwegian; Nærøyfjorden, Lovatnet, Reinebringen, Kvalvika beach, Geiranger (outside of tourist season), Trollstigen, Åndalsnes and hike Romsdalseggen, my childhood hometown Grimstad and many more. We love hiking and tenting, waking up on a cliff edge with views of a fjord is therapy 😊

The roaming law is typically something angloamerican's has trouble with. We don't really have trespassing here. Don't ask me how the law works, but if you're gonna camp somewhere no one cares who own's the land, but as a Norwegian I would be very careful not to bother anyone. That means it has to be like 150 m from someone's house, you can't camp on cultivated land, don't bother livestock they arn't pets, don't feed wild animals, they arn't pets either, and DON'T LEAVE GARBAGE when you leave. Show all kind of consideration to nature and people. Don't bother anyone.

Yes it is true that Switzerland and Norway are close to each and they have in common like skiing, mountains, snow, financial stability, not part of the EU, both expensive to live in, and they are both part of EFTA.

I was born and bred in a small place up north outside Narvik. And northern Norway in september is my favourite thing in the world. The crisp air, the mountains and the autumn-colours are spectacular. Probably more so now closing on 50, because i dont live there all year long anymore. Cabinlife in Norway, Sweden and Finland are very simular. I could borrow 10-15 cabins depending on timing ofc, stretching from ocean-cabins a few hours south of Oslo, via mountain cabins here and there for eighter skiing, hiking or hunting/ fishing, and a handfull++ up north ranging from sea level to above the tree line. Some are pretty much houses, most are basic. No electricity or plumbing, and forget about internett... My favourit is what was a house until the late 50's, but is my familys seaside cabin today, about 3h south of Tromsø. Its got electricity, an outhouse bog and a river to fetch water. All sorts of mountain-hiking/ -hunting, and fishing both ocean and mountain lakes are accessible as the mountains climb straight up from the sea...

We eat tacos religiously over here. In the US, they have their "Taco Tuesday," but everyone understands that's just a gimmick made up by the American businesses to sell more. However, over here, "Taco Fridays" are something we take seriously - even to the point where almost all workplaces' cantinas make them on Fridays for lunch, even though you'll eat tacos when you get home from work.

As a Norwegian, we love our Nordic brothers, particularly our Scandinavian ones. I have lived in the northern area when I was in the army. Of course people live there fine, despite endless summers and winters. Conditions are great, for enjoyment, for studying and playing games. "Hyggelig, vet du." Free roaming is great. We can tent everywhere, fill up the freezer with berries and mushrooms. And yes, enjoy the beautiful nature. Gas/Diesel prices are now hovering around 25 NKR per liter. The fund is now worth ~15,000,000,000,000 NKR or $1,5 trillion, that is ~$275,000 per Norwegian.

If you can find the movie "The King's Choice" I recommend that one. It shows some important weeks in Norwegian History. I also like the movie "Troll" which shows nature and Norwegian lore. My favourite place in Norway is Østmarka, the eastern woods of Oslo. You can walk in there and find places where there sound of the city disappears, and you can be completely alone, which is rare in a city. I've been to some places in Norway, but none of the "famous" ones.
