Sakura Gakuin was an idol group that served as an academy for girls between 10-15 years old to prepare them for the entertainment industry. What you saw was an annual event they do in which older students graduate and abandon the project (that's why some girls were crying) to make way for new members. This was the graduation of Suzuka Nakamoto, who is currently the vocalist of the most successful metal band in Japan BABYMETAL. Sakura Gakuin lasted 10 years and gave the world models, actresses, seiyuus, dancers, singers, idols and a metal group. I hope you react to more SG in the future, or to Babymetal who have a bigger fandom and are recognized around the world.

Band-Maid is the best band on earth right now! You just heard one of MANY fantastic songs. They have both harder and softer than this. Pop punk, hard rock, metal, classic rock. They do it all and combine them to be unique. For harder one (and newer) try the MV for Shambles. For a ballad type, try Endless Story MV or live. They are a fanatastic live band, I highly recommend Puzzle and Don’t You Tell Me.

And a thing about the maid outfits, Bianca: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids. Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all!

Sakura Gakuin is no longer active, I believe, but their legacy remains in the J-pop/heavy metal hybrid BABYMETAL, who are still a worldwide sensation today (and who just released a collaboration with Electric Callboy for what is bound to be THE song of the summer "Ra Ta Ta Ta," which is already over 7M views in only two weeks). All three of the original members of BABYMETAL were in the video you watched, and their newest member Momo is also an alum of Sakura Gakuin from a later class. BABYMETAL is Japan's biggest musical export to the West since the 1980s, and Band-Maid isn't far behind. Both groups have done several tours of the US and Europe in recent years and have significant Western followings among rock and metal fans.

Unexpected huh? You came to see freaks, and you saw the best rock band in the world today.

The Sakura Gakuin song needs context to understand what was happening. Sakura Gakuin was set up by the Amuse Talent Agency as an Idol group, but the main purpose was to give experience, coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls (aged between 10 and 15) on the agency's books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management and so on) with a view to each girl finding what she was best at or liked best so she could follow that as a career with Amuse after leaving school (compulsory education ends at age 15 in Japan). Amuse gave Sakura Gakuin a school theme to fit in with what they were doing and at the end of the school year any 15 year old girls would 'graduate' and move on to whatever they had chosen to do, new younger girls would 'transfer in' to take the graduates' places. This video was from the graduation show they would put on every year - in this case it was 2013 and there was just one graduate - Suzuka Nakamoto. She had been the class president for the past year (so as the oldest she looked after and led all the younger girls). Those tears are genuine, this was the last time she would perform with all the other girls as a member of SG. Sakura Gakuin eventually disbanded in 2021 after over 10 years and most of the girls who passed through have gone on to successful careers as actresses, models, solo artists or members of groups etc. Suzuka Nakamoto is better known as the lead vocalist with Japan's most successful (internationally) band BABYMETAL. The whole concept was inspired by, devised, formed and developed around her vocal talents and stage presence. Their producer was so impressed that he had a mad idea of her fronting a metal band. BABYMETAL first started as a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin with Su-metal and two of the younger girls in this video, Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). When Su-metal graduated in 2013 BABYMETAL also separated from Sakura Gakuin with her to leave the Idol world and became an independent band in their own right. BABYMETAL released their first album in February 2014 and embarked on their first tour outside of Japan later that year. Since then they have toured the world every year (when they could) became the first Japanese band to headline Wembley Arena, sold out the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people) two nights running, the first Japanese (first Asian) band to have an album at number 1 in the US Billboard hard rock charts, toured with, collaborated with, supported or been supported by some of the world's biggest metal bands and artists. In Sakura Gakuin they started as a fusion of metal with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics. They have gone on to mix and blend so many more musical styles and genres with the metal. There is no other band quite like them, they pioneered their own metal sub-genre and nearly 14 years on they are going from strength to strength selling out arenas in Japan and selling out virtually every venue they play as they tour the world. In 2023 they played nearly 100 concerts in 25 countries. This year they are still very busy and just announced another US tour in November.

This is the first time I've seen a reactor check out Sakura Gakuin before BABYMETAL. You did a pretty impressive reaction video for me. All the BABYMETAL members are in this video. , BABYMETAL's SU-METAL is the one singing in the middle. And the little girl crying at the beginning is MOAMETAL, and the little girl sobbing at the end is YUIMETAL. For the past 3-4 years, they were active in both BABYMETAL and Sakura Gakuin. That's natural, since BABYMETAL was a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin. Even after Nakamoto Suzuka graduated, Moa and Yui stayed in Sakura Gakuin for 2 years and continued BABYMETAL's world tour and Sakura Gakuin activities. So they gave us great acts in both fields. After Moa and Yui graduated, the three of them continued to work worldwide as BABYMETAL, and their live shows are spectacular, extremely fun, and beautiful. Although the musical genres are different, you can see the talents they have cultivated at Sakura Gakuin in action. The DNA of Sakura Gakuin is right there. New sub here. You stand upon the precipice of either falling in love with BandMaid or getting distracted and thinking they are just another band. They're not. They are arguably the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Hyperbole is very difficult to avoid with BandMaid so screw it. I envy you so much. There is so much wonderful music,, tears and laughter ahead of you if you keep listening. There's no way to describe here why all the things they do combine to create the music. Tons of riffs - enough to make an album for most bands in one song. More hooks than grandad's tackle box. Genre bending writing and performances. In damn near every song a sing along bit for the fans to keep us engaged. Word play between English and Japanese homophones is not uncommon. Deep collaboration between all members to allow everyone to shine. What they have done is harness their egos in service to the song. Akane Hirose and MISA are IMHO the greatest rhythm section currently active in rock music. Truly inventive bass and drumming - not over played but always interesting with unusual choices that make the songs rich. They're not just keeping a beat EVER! Magnificent composition and stellar guitar work from Kanami Tono and equally magnificent vocals from Saiki Atsumi grab us by the ears.Then There's Miku Kobato- no Miku no BandMaid. Founder, chief lyricist, vocal harmonies sung while playing rhythm guitar she is the backbone of this group. She's the lead singer who fired herself so that the lead singer would have a more rock and roll voice. She's the singer who learned to play guitar while in the band. A paid professional learning her instrument on the fly. Now she has her own signature model of Zematis electric guitar. She willed BandMaid into existence. I haven't even begun to say all I could. Come and see for yourself!

Sakura Gakuin was a idol group disbanded in 2021. This is the graduation of Suzuka Nakamoto, Su-Metal lead singer of Babymetal. There are also Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi, Yui-Metal and MoaMetal, founded members of Babymetal along with Su. Yui left Babymetal in 2018 due health issues. In this video Su was 15 and both Yui and Moa was 14.
