we aren't allowed to show patriotism. granted there are nasty thugs out there sometimes. But display an English flag or union jack and you are instantly decried as a racist.
Remember this was 12 years ago, the UK has been attacked by a decade of anti-British propaganda. Pride in being British has fallen by over 25% because of lies and half truths. For example Rule Britannia’s ‘Britons never ever shall be slaves’ was a response to British coastal populations being raided and enslaved by Barbary pirates from North Africa, but it’s now being labelled as wacist and there are calls for it to be banned… Britain’s role in the transatlantic trade is ALWAYS recalled but their role in abolishing the trade globally is hidden.
NOBODY and i mean NOBODY does pomp and ceremony like the British, count how many nationalities have travelled thousands of miles to attend the proms. Im English and I couldn't be more proud of this country, to me the UK is the greatest place in the world 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I love Jerusalem, it speaks of a legend that Jesus visited England. William Blake wrote the lyrics and they are absolutely beautiful. Bring me my bow of burning gold, bring me my arrows of desire, bring me my spear oh clouds unfold, bring me my chariots of fire. I mean it's almost sacred. Tears just well up hearing God Save the Queen again, I miss her and I'm a black Briton. So proud to be British..
Stupid comment to make janehenry!! It would have been impossible for Jesus to have visited England….England never f**king existed during Jesus’s life!! It’s possible that Jesus could have visited Cornwall though, as Cornwall had long been trading tin and copper with the Mediterranean Countries, including the Holy land. Since Joseph of Arimathea, the uncle of Jesus was a trader, it it plausible that Jesus could have accompanied him to Britain as a boy!
A beautiful lady with a beautiful smile.. Thank you for appreciating these amazing songs, this is everything it means to be British right here ☝🏼🇬🇧 ❤🙏🏼
Have to say, having been to the Royal Albert Hall for a few concerts the atmosphere in that place is mind-blowing. I went to a prom where they played they played the star spangled banner and a lady next to me burst into tears, she wasn’t even American but I totally got it, the atmosphere was electric.
No, the Britain you remember still exists! ….The English still see themselves as superior to the indigenous Welsh/Cornish, Irish/Scots of these Islands!
The hymn Jerusalem refers to the possibility that Jesus Christ visited England on ships belonging to Joseph of Arimathea. The hypothesis is that Christ came to Britain - specifically the West Country, which was one of the ancient world’s primary sources for tin - with an elder relative, the wealthy Joseph of Arimathea, who would eventually provide the tomb in which he would be laid on that first Good Friday. Joseph was a wealthy trader, specifically in metal, and so, it is said, he allowed the young Jesus to travel with him on a sort of business trip. Certainly civilisations as early as the Phoenicians used Cornish tin, and archaeological finds from the Mediterranean can be traced, with some accuracy, to the gloriously named ‘Ding Dong’ mine near Penzance.
@@petermeyerhoff8737 Jerusalem the HYMN by Sir Hubert Parry, the fact that the Labour party decided to use it for their own ends DOESN'T STOP IT BEING A HYMN [#108 in my school hymn book in fact]. It is also the anthem representing England at the commonwealth games as well as the anthem used at rugby games and represents the WI as well [or did when I was a member]. None of these have any connection to the Labour party, they need to stick to the Red Flag and leave hymns out of politics.
HM Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022, but even in 2012 we knew she was approaching the home straight, hence the strong emotion, especially on the line "Long to reign over us". Maybe not in flesh but certainly in spirit.
Oh, did not expect this. Am I deluded, or did I detect real reverence in the voices of those that sang God Save the Queen? (I still cant come to terms with losing her, she was all I had ever known)
This was from Proms, Sept 2012. We had celebrated the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics earlier in the year so I think there was real reverence and genuine pride and affection in both the UK and our Queen at this point. After all she had leapt out of a helicopter for us 😉🤗
@@GillMosley-wo9mf Beethoven wrote a set of Variations on God Save the King and noted in his diary that: ‘I have to show the English a little of what a blessing God Save the King is’. Surely you saw the foreign girl’s reaction here ? Jerusalem, Rule Britannia, and lots of others could be nominated as an alternative, but it’s simply not necessary.
Enjoy it whilst it lasts they want to stop these songs being used in the proms as well as getting rid of the flags because it reflects back to our past history of colonisation.
Elgar hated his music being used for nationalistic purposes and William Blake, writer of Jerusalem said that it was about his desire for Celtic paganism to return to England. The proms have always been seen as a joke to smarter English people.
What the hell are you talking about the BBC started the broadcasting of the Proms and Lord Reith the founder suggested the BBC have it's own orchestra which played for the first time in 1930.
Britain is a stupid, bankrupt country, in thrall to American narcissism, but this theme grew out of more noble principles - that governments in the UK for well over twenty years have no right to claim. So it is a romantic reminder of an ideal we have never reached. it is, despite that, very moving and was worded by one of Britains's greatest visionaries.
Yes despite that I count my blessings that I was born in the UK. You can find the stupid in most things if you look hard enough. Why waste a life in bitterness and regret.
I expect this song will banned soon.According to its most common interpretation, Blake's poem suggests that a visit from Jesus will create heaven in England.some say that the Saint George's Cross flag and the The Union Jack or Union Flag afends them.A certain demographic. The Government protects them but not us.Have a look at BRITISH Girl assaulted at Nando's Stratford failed by British Police .
If you are over 40 in the uk, you probably learned the word at school as it used to be sung in school assemblies. Nowadays, apart from the proms, it's used before England, rugby games, and sometimes other sports. The words are easy to learn, and it only has 2 verses . It does sound great when it's sung by a huge crowd. Your reaction to it was lovely ❤ it can be emotional when it's done really well. 🎵🎶🎉
100 percent... a flawed genius..you said it.I think you should leave off the genius part and go for therapy. The dark must be getting the better of you.😢
