Reaction to "Jolene" by Pentatonix and Dolly Parton | THIS IS A MUST LISTEN!!! 

Yes, this was PTX third Grammy, and amazingly, Dolly's first for this song. They won for best Duo or Group performance, instead of the arrangement.

PTX had originally done an arrangement where Dolly had the lead throughout, but she insisted that they take at least one verse, so they reworked it on the fly.

Great reaction Amazing Dolly had never won a Grammy for this song I love the a cappella arrangement PTX created They all sang well and Avi’s bass and Kevin’s horse hooves clickity clacking was impressive Imagine Dolly insisting PTX take a verse It must have been a surreal moment for PTX to realize they were singing Jolene and in that verse Dolly Parton sang backup In interviews PTX said she was charming, kind, funny and they were star struck and it was an honor to perform with Dolly

I remember seeing Dolly on with Johnny Carson in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and she charmed the living daylights out of him every time!

There is a cute story on how they met Dolly and how they opened for her tour. Scotts friend called him and said Dolly was coming to their home town in Texas and he wanted to always see her so his friend got tickets and Scott flew hometo go to the concert and was in the Audience trying to move closer to.the stage and Dolly saw him out there, jad her security grab him and adk him to come backstage after the concert, he was so excited to meet her, however she said sue was so excited to meet him, shed been wat hing all thier videos on Utube while traveling in her bus on tour for weeks she said, and asked him to call the others and see if they would please travel with her and open her concerts for her next tour coming up, so they did and thats what i read.

So the Pentatonix lead section was all "The Trio" - the three from Arlington, TX, who were the group before Pentatonix was formed for The Sing-Off - Kirstin, Scott, and Mitch. As originally put together for the competition, the group was to consist of a vocal part -The Trio - and the new rhythm section. But Avi (later, Matt) and Kevin were too talented musically to be limited that way. However, in this case, given that the Pentatonix vocals section didn't exist until they were rehearsing with Dolly just before the performance, it was easiest just to come up with a Trio arrangement.
