From the moment I heard the original work, sung by The Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Vocal Choir, I knew I had to do something with it. It was just too moving for me to not try and give my own spin on the song.
Since traditional Bulgarian folk music (and music from the surrounding areas too) is in time signatures such as 5/16, 9/16, 11/16, I wanted to honor it. After the short vocal introduction the buildup is based on a looping 2 bar phrase alternating between 9/16 and 5/16. I soon start to add more and more instruments until the instrumentals sound like trance music.
From the moment the "verse" starts, the remainder is in 9/15. I hope the blend of traditional Bulgarian folkmusic, and ideas from Trance make an exciting soundscape
This is a remix of a bulgarian folk song by yours truely, menno. I found the Original choir vocals so inspiring that I decided to sample the vocals to create a trance remix of the Original song. I made sure to keep in mind the traditions of bulgarian folk music, such as in this case the interesting 9/16 time signature. I hope you can enjoy this fusion of western and Balkan traditions
