OMFG! I was already falling in love with the man. Then you go and throw my favorite Doctor into the family! I had wondered but never dreamed. Consider me completely smitten, Lewis Capaldi. Completely smitten.
This man tells incredibly sad stories in such short time. his songs are full of such raw feelings. Someone You Loved with Peter Capaldi in another one with such a deep meaning.
This song has a lot of meaning for me as a person who battles mental illness and has attempted suicide! I wish I could tell someone how to help me stop hurting...
This is about his Aunt. She committed suicide. He is so young, but you wouldn't know it. He writes, all, of his own songs. And music. No voice lessons. Not even 25. If you see interviews, his age shows. He jokes. Crude jokes. Lol. He's hilarious, as well.
Just happened to notice a lot of people still using the term committed so here is something I told a few others: not to be ‘that’ person, but in case you didn’t know you might find this helpful to know... families and loved ones of those who have died by suicide would rather not have the word ‘committed’ associated with their death as that word is in reference to ‘committing’ sin in the eyes of the church/god or as if they ‘committed’ a crime. It’s taken me a little while to condition myself into not saying it either, but just thought you might want to know in future if talking to anyone who’s loved one died by suicide.
I can agree with that as my suicide had me on life support but I unhappily and against my wishes was brought back. And I can say I’d much rather people say your suicide thing bc commit is a negative term in general commit a sin, commit a crime. And it def wasn’t in my mind at all it would’ve brought closure to those that loved me and there was a new miracle baby 13 tries to be a single mother do u have any idea how crazy expensive it is esp when ur gonna be a single mom. So the timing was just perfect.
In his interviews he comes across as a normal down to earth guy and has a really funny self depreciating humour, which is typical of where he's from, Scotland.
He’s incredible so open about his struggles and such a down to earth incredibly funny guy who writes incredible music and has an incredible voice he’s one of my favourites always listen to his music
Most people see and know but don't care because they're either "too busy with their lives" or "don't have time" or they're simply unwilling to let another's broken heart drag them down. They simply don't care, no matter how many times they say otherwise.
I just love how the music video is shot to show all the wonderful memories from the people whose lives the woman touched--all the things they remember and cherish about her. That's the message a lot of people hope to give the people they love who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. You might think so badly about yourself, but there are so many wonderful ways you touch the world--and the other people in it. I know it's difficult to see anything--you feel like you can't look back or forward; you feel trapped in a situation or mindset that nothing can change. Just remember: you have never existed alone. And maybe you feel like your existence is a burden or worthless, but nothing in the universe is stagnant. Everything changes--constantly. And everything holds potential--potential for more than you could ever imagine. Try not to limit yourself by what you know or how you feel. Try not to judge yourself by what you know or how you feel. You are alive and have changed the world simply by breathing--changed the very atmosphere of the planet--and that's given life to other things. We are all connected and exist because of what came before us; exist around each other. There is nothing--NOTHING--that makes your worthless. You've already left a mark that will last forever in this world simply by being born. Start there, if you can. Start again. As many times as you need. Because you exist. None of us can escape death, but each of us can only live while we're alive. Your life is yours--it belongs to you. Yours. And you can actually change someone else's with a simple smile. Eyes meeting eyes. Holding a door. Saying hello. Such simple things, but the moment they come into existence, they alter the world. Forever. So does the loss of you. So much loss--not just your life, but all that would come after. That's how valuable you are. Valuable to the extent that just by existing, you change the world. And no matter how much you feel you've screwed up, only by living can you do otherwise.
Funny story Lewis Capaldi is from Scotland. My cousin is one of the lead guitarist on his band. He also has a great Scottish humour. Great Scottish Singer, one of my favourites.
I clicked "Like" right after your little smile at 3:58 when the girl put her lipstick on, possibly for the first time. It was the sweetest thing to watch, really.
I've never actually heard this song before but it sounded really good, and your reaction was even better! You should totally check out "Someone you Loved" (I think its called) by him as well!
As a Brit who has loved Lewis from the very beginning, I absolutely love watching these reaction videos! It’s amazing to watch as the power of his voice and the lyrics hit right in the feels. Most of his songs are based on personal experience, this is about his Aunt who committed suicide. His live performances are phenomenal and a must watch! You have a new sub here and I’m now off to watch you react to Someone you Loved because that song just gets me ❤️
I love this guys voice. Reminds me of that passion Michael Bolton used to deliver in his songs. That emotion oozing through every lyric. The high voice yet like it’s a gravelly/thick /distortion tone in contrast to say another amazing singer : Myles Kennedy. I love how it is stripped back, raw, rough around the edges like an old and well played guitar with the paint peeling away. Vintage!!
This is the first time I’ve watched the video and the first time I’ve listen to the whole song and really listened and I just…I actually can’t stop crying and I don’t know why, I don’t normally cry easily, but I’m just fully crying rn..
This Scot like me has an incredible talen, a great singer and songwriter. A very funny man and he will go very far. Love him so much as a person and singer. He has so many songs that are great 🥰
I love how his voice tells the most sad story but the video shows how you can seem on the outside, while you are hurting on the inside❤️ So what I want you to do, you that's reading this - don't hesitate to ask people around you how they are feeling, cuz you might be their saviour without even knowing it🙏🏻
Yes his aunt competed suicide. My son did too, so this song realty gets to me. Adam Miller, forever 24. 2/8/92. 4/2/16. I miss you son. Please reach out if you are hurting, PLEASE. Not one person saw this coming with Adam. He was fine no mental health issues his girlfriend had just broke up with him but she always did and they would always get back together. This time must of been too much. 😭😭😭
His whole album is amazing. Some of my favourites are Forever, One, Grace and Don’t get me wrong. Even if you don’t react to them you should for sure give the album a listen, you won’t regret it!
Lewis said in a Genius interview, the song was about losing his aunt to suicide when he was six, and he wrote the song later on in life after being able to process it.
So sorry to hear of your grandma passing. My grandfather died a few years ago and it was so very hard. He was a documentary filmmaker and a huge influence on my life. It’s so crazy how a well crafting song can bring us back to places in our lives. Both happy and sad.
Forever and someone you loved are great songs by him but the whole album is beautiful He is such a down to earth guy he doesn't let his fame make him a dick lol Also his cousin is Dr who haha
Fun fact that you may like since you're a metal guy: Lewis says he grew up listening to slipknot. I don't remember what interview it was or when I saw it, but I swear I did lol
One of the things, not to ridicule or attack anyone, but rather bring awareness so we can change our individual framing, and hopefully our collective framing. Everything everone said was beautifuland exhibited such compassio. This is just for further building, but the term "committing" suicide framing comes from the crime aspect like committing murder. We don't murder ourselves, but "suicide" is the route by which we die from a mental illness. We don't say that someone gave up or stopped fighting cancer, rather the disease killed them. In instances like the song, they died from depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, etc... by route of self-inflicted gunshot, hanging, carbon monoxide poisoning, etc... We previously stated committed suicide because rather than seeing it as an illness, it was more of a moral failing. We are improving the understanding of mental illness, and if we remove shame from the equation, then we can hopefully get more people to speak up. This was purely from an informative perspective and there was so much beauty in the comments. I love this song, because so many can connect with it and my hope is that by connecting to the emotion of the song, some understanding of what those who remain are left with and it helps people to seek support and not listen to the illness.
He wrote this about his grandmother that had passed away there are videos on RU-vid of him saying exactly that. Lewis is the most down to earth man you can listen to and absolutely hilarious
No that’s not correct, someone you loved was about has grandmother passing , this song before you go is about his aunties suicide from his mums point of view
I think he has an amazing voice he seems so down to earth too. You should check out Benee..shes so awesome..she doesnt have a bad song.. so anything by her! Also i agree with someone wlse in the comments check out Aurora! Aurora and Benee completely different but both very quirky and both have beautiful voices. Theyre up there with Billie in terms of originality and that they a strong sense of who they are.
A song about someone trying to talk to someone who has committed suicide. And trying to figure out what they could have done. The video shows what depression looks like, everyone just sees you happy and in love. But do down you're everything but what you project to others.
We Scots are pretty proud of this dude. We always appreciate someone who can write & sing a relateable song, & doubly so if he keeps a sense of humour about him. Young Lewis can for sure write & sing, & is *for sure* not lacking a sense of humour- for your own info & amusement, check him out on the UK's biggest chat show here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nMvQ6xFfCuQ.html ;) As a suggestion for something other reactors seem to have missed, check out this wee unannounced appearance he made at a James Bay gig: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6f4y0jCkjdE.html They're both excellent (despite Lewis having issues with his in-ears & having to shoot-in-the-dark a tad on a few of the harmonies) :)
Here's a good live version - although he does many acoustic versions too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qjjaWEhUP9Y.html He's very down to earth & extremely funny. He was playing in my home town last year & surprised fans by serving behind the counter of the local pie shop. Needless to say, the shop did a great trade that day 😂

You've probably got a lot of people saying this.,..but yes, his Aunt committed suicide when he was 4/5. As he got older, he asked his mom about how she felt..so this is a song about the aftermath of suicide and how the ones left behind feel. He's a legend.
Love that tune! I wish I could react to his stuff on my channel but I'm a big fan and know sooo many of his tunes already. He's got such a great mix of country, rock, and motown sound to his voice.
