@josuearevalo1694 , at one time, I was in the LDS church is a cult camp. However, I met some wonderful LDS folks and saw their love for Jesus, and it changed my heart towards the LDS church. I do have some disagreements with LDS doctrine, and after praying I don't have a witness of the Book of Mormon. I don't know if I will ever become LDS, but I do expect sit at Jesus' feet in Heaven with LDS brothers and sisters.

@@anthonygamblin9983 It is a cult. the BITE model is well respected guidelines for what is/isn't a cult and mormons fall most definitely into the CULT side. Furthermore research the 'second anointing' a ceremony the higher-ups keep secret, people spend their whole life being a member without knowing because they're not at the high enough level. Anyways it pretty much absolves one of all sins and they are pretty much guaranteed a place in the highest heaven. This ceremony was what did it for me to put them into the 'cult' side of things. Lastly they don't believe they will see you in heaven because you don't follow their conman JS among other things, they look down on you for nothing believing and say you will not reach heaven so don't be so easy on them. what the members were doing is called 'love bombing' where they are super doper nice to try and pull one over on you.

Yeah he didnt leave to play golf on sunday, he left coz the church lawyers advised him not to report a child predator. He too is a survivor of sexual abuse from a church leader as a child. So he contacted the police anyway and left. And he has pledged to start a non for profit to help abuse survivors and put his service time towards that rather than towards the organisation that advised him to to take action to protect the children at church. This message was not appropriate to share at the pulpit. Hes done this in his own time, but used his final minutes at the pulpit to give love and closure to his congragation. Seriously as non judgmental christians Ward Radio has a lot to reflect on

@Elevatemusicchilds
@Elevatemusicchilds 8 месяцев назад
That’s for sure. I felt like I was super prayerful and constantly in touch with the Lord but many times I felt alone and stretched beyond my capacity. It’s been almost two years since my release and I’m finally starting to feel like I’m recovering. But it’s taken a lot of serious soul searching and some counseling to help me start to feel normal again. I had so many difficult things to internalize that I just couldn’t shake off. Maybe it’s a personality thing:) but I had people threaten me, scream at me, confess adultery, child abuse, prostitution, drugs, rash of bi sexuality among the youth, child abuse, constant returning home early missionaries, angry parents for them coming home early or others not going. The list goes on and on. I was on with church legal, what felt like all the time. And I just settled a lawsuit with a guy that sued me because of my being a bishop. Crazy times. Some people are just more prepared and have the personality type to deal with the call. This poor bishop had to have just snapped.

This guy has born his testimony probably thousands of times as a missionary and in every other part of his life when he was 100% believing and faithful. Then he learns some things that make him question it all and we cannot tollerate five mintes in his life to address a community that he cleary loves with a bit of honesty about his spiritual journey. How intollerant and entitled we are as a group who claim to be brothers and sisters. Why is this about us and how we feel about his journey? Are we that scared or insecure when confronted with the reality that each of us is on a "personal" journey to know God? Batten down your hatches and expel him and his family from your community if you are afraid, shun him and make an example of him. Heaven forbid he or any of your children ever express doubt or concerns about confusing history or doctrine or optics of a church that hides abuse and protects abusers.

This page is absolutely ridiculous. I cannot believe the absolute ignorance of the comments being made on this thread- by supposedly loving Christ-following members of the church. A family member was clearly the person recording. They knew it was coming- geez, you people can make a conspiracy out of anything!! It's not that difficult to figure that out. He didn't do it over the pulpit for attention. He did it over the pulpit because he knows that if he doesn't then the Stake President is going to get up and lie about why he was leaving, which, not oddly, is exactly what people on this thread are doing. "He must have read some stuff", He was too stressed out", "He wasn't humble enough". You literally have no idea what he is referring to when he said he was asked to do things that are against his own morals. What if he was being asked to cover up for a sex offender? I have no idea if that is the case and neither do you, but the fact that you all are making statements as if they are factual or even probable is EXACTLY why he felt like he needed to resign over the pulpit. No church leader or member gets to speak to his experience without his voice being heard. He took the chance to take his voice back before church leaders and members hijack it from him. Bravo on demonstrating that point perfectly. Why do all of you feel the need to comment publicly about someone you don't even know? Why do the content creators on this channel feel the need to publish this publicly-to thousands of people- if it so horrendous? Absolutely unbelievable and gross.

I was a millennial Bishop released after 5 years mid last year. Each Bishop's experience can be wildly different. I've heard very good and capable men who were called as Bishop say after a month or two that after 5 years they will be a totally broken man. I felt that way too sometimes. There were tremendous blessings along the way though that were choice above all others. So both the difficulties of being a Bishop and the outpouring of God's love and sustaining influence are true. That said you never do this over the pulpit unless you have an angle. Oh and I also had a short beard but was never asked to shave it in Utah :)

I have served as a counselor in 3 Bishoprics over a 25 year span of time and although I always felt pressure and stress from the calling I never felt like the calling would "break me" but I am an older guy from that older generation when we just didn't internalize things like the younger men do today. Everyone is different in how they handle stress so I acknowledge that. I agree that this Bishop, despite the internal struggles, should have never made such a public showing of stepping down. The appropriate thing to do is quietly leave after counseling with his Stake President.
@timmiestabrnak
@timmiestabrnak 8 месяцев назад

@@timmiestabrnak don't twist my words! This ex Bishop was under stress he could not handle, that is obvious and stepping down was absolutely the right thing for him to do but I don't agree with how he did it. Bishops get to say goodbye all the time when they are formally released from the calling, I've witnessed this many times. This Bishop bypassed the normal release decision and did his own without the guidance and supervision of the Stake President.

He stepped aside because he was expected, after consulting with church lawyers, to ignore an abuser and allow that abuser to continue that abuse. Ok one thing I think we members can agree about is that we do want people to leave quietly and there are people in wards that will make all kinds of assumptions about someone without giving the person who left a chance to respond in any way. I think so much of what was said against the bishop in this video, or that seemed unfair of him to do, we could flip around and see if there are ways that we are doing the same thing to exmormons or people leaving the church. I personally think one of the reasons this bishop did things this way was so he could have a chance ro tell as many people as possible his experience before he has people write him off and he doesnt get a chance to respond to assumptions members might make. This video and experiences of my family members who have left shows me that there is some truth to what Kwaku is talking about that there are really very few ways if any to leave the church in an "acceptable" way. Even the people who go quietly seem to get talked about negatively a lot in my family, with my friends and in my wards. People are doing it in a way they think is living and compassionate, but there is always a focus on what they are doing wrong or missing instead of rooting for them and celebrating their wins. Also there are so many splinters and different variations in belief in what Joseph Smith started. There is a large movement right now of people who believe in Joseph Smith but not Brigham or the mainstream church. The bishop being vague might be that in his mind he is trying not to implicate people that he views as innocently carrying out what he sees as harmful policies of the church entity. I don't think there are as many nefarious motives behind people leaving and how they do it as we think. If this bishop is grand standing and whatever else, I think it matters more that the response from members doesn't play into the narrative of attitudes of conditional love, judgement, and defensiveness. It seems like we are quick to point out when we see othering or us vs them happening outside the church, but don't realize when we are projecting the same us vs them from within.

@@billboswell6036 very possibly. I wish he would say that, but when he started speaking incoherently and extremely emotional you can tell he is in some sort of distress. @@jordanvarnon4835 I appreciated your comments and feel compelled to also come to the defense of a brother who is certainly in CRISIS. I have also suffered from a mental health crisis that took me to the brink of death by suicide and I have been literally saved from death miraculously multiple times. I believe this man did tell his story about his wrestling match with our Savior Jesus Christ. My point of view, which seems to be an unpopular one, is the fact that he first resigns from his "position of authority" and then he attempts to give some answers to his ward family as a non-bishop to help his ward family stay focused on the LIGHT OF JESUS CHRIST. The fact that people are "crucifying" this man for courageously resigning and stepping away to take care of his mental health, to me, is no different than someone who is afflicted with a sickness or cancer that no longer have the capacity to serve as bishop. He is suffering from a consciousness that he cannot go into detail about over the pulpit. It's an audience full of children and youth. He is trying his best, in my opinion, to say farewell (even if all he said is a big "nothing burger" as Ward Radio loves to say about his situation) No man should be reduced to a "nothing burger" even by a group of comedians who are clearly taking advantage of his illness and his situation to crack jokes and poke their fun. I choose to defend the man and give him my mercy rather than my judgement. I also understand Ward Radio is all about fun and jokes, but their jokes around this man's mental health ALL fell flat with me because I am ALSO someone who is suffering and who is "not mentally well" My name is: Aaron Spencer Watts Born and baptized in the Cypress California Stake Served a faithful two year mission to Goiania, Brazil Got married in the SLC temple on July 1, 2005 Got mentally sick in early 2020 as Covid began Got laid off from my corporate job in April of 2023 after fighting for 3 full years to stabilize myself I am now homeless and legally separated from my wife and children because of my illness and my heart breaks for this man. I lost my family because I am sick. I am still active in church and have not and will not leave because I do believe I made a baptismal covenant with God (before I got married) that I cannot break. I am concerned that my wife is planning to divorce me and break our marriage covenant. Everyone has agency to choose and we do not really know why they are prompted to break up with someone whom they covenanted with. I will ALWAYS LOVE my wife even if she feels the need to end our marriage. I do not know what I have caused her to suffer. (I can say, that I have never sexually or physically abused my wife or children. I have never cheated on my wife with anyone, and I freely admit that I probably have been unintentionally verbally and emotionally abusive to my wife and children as I have suffered from my condition of Bipolar disorder. It's a sad chapter of my story, but I believe deeply, that Jesus Christ will clean up my messes and FIX EVERYTHING IN THE FINAL CHAPTER OF THE STORY. If anyone out there is struggling and needs a friend to listen and lean on please call me. I would love to listen to you and to hear your story. 801-671-7977 My story is not a "nothing burger" because I do not choose to disclose my wife and my children's identities. I would also hope that people could respect that "the meat of a story" often times is not information that should ever be shared publicly to protect the innocent from more suffering. I loved the courage of the bishop to first resign and then to attempt to offer an explanation. Even though he may have said "I don't want to wear a silly shirt when I serve my community" I think he is so hurt by his story that he struggled to contain his anger, but I saw a man who did his best to say farewell. I pray that he remains a member of the family of God and will be saved and redeemed just like all of us who fell with Adam and Eve and who need a Savior. John 3:16 from an active and very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love all my brothers and sisters and I love that Ward Radio is Courageously Creating Content to help our heavenly family. People abandoning their faith has always been a sad sideshow of the Lord's work and will probably continue to occur as the last days progress. Myriad followers turned from the Savior himself. Establishing the kingdom of God has always been a bit of a challenge.

Another point to remember that we, as those living in western societies and countries where the restored gospel has been established, we have we warned that there is that time where the 'great apostacy' will come from within the church. While we may see a falling away of members in western societies, as with Christianity in general, we are seeing tremendous growth in countries where the gospel has been withheld until recently. I guess I was lucky in that I had enough limited knowledge back then to understand that in the last days many shall fall away. I had no ill feelings or otherwise... I am sad when someone leaves. But, no person who has left the church has affected me in any way. I expect many more will leave before all is said and done, both great and small. My concern is just for me and my family... I am more concerned to hold onto the iron rod and help others do the same. But at the end of the day each person will be responsible for how they care for their own testimonies. Considering 80% of our youth leave the church by their mid 20s now and that rate is accelerating, and he comments there are hardly any youth left, perhaps he was speaking to being asked as a bishop to do the things that drive them away rather than making it safe for them to stay. He spoke to them about maintaining integrity and speaking up when they have concerns. Can you really not guess? What are bishops asked to do to youth? Interrogate and judge their worthiness every six months and punish them if they don't meet the church's expectations, including never ever masturbating. If they are too honest they will be publicly humiliated by being barred from passing the sacrament or taking it and barred from the next temple trip with the other youth. Or maybe he didn't like telling the destitute they must pay tithing and put themselves through the humiliation of the welfare system to still feed their children and keep a roof over their heads. Bishops who leave the church talk about the main reasons they could not facilitate those systems anymore, as do the people on the receiving end of them who leave the church. It's not a mystery.

@mormoncivilwar6189 5 месяцев назад
@@DaGolfViking I did not say anything about God not expecting anything of us. The issue is what precisely the Church asks bishops to expect of us and whether that is ethical or compatible with Christ's teaching. For example, Jesus taught that we should 'render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's' in terms of taxes and financial obligations to the state yet the First Presidency and Presiding Bishopric broke several laws hiding their financial assets from the Securities and Exchange Commission and intentionally misleading them in the legal paperwork they were meant to submit, and a Presiding Bishopric member recently boasted in a National newspaper that they put inaccurate information on their IRS tax return forms because they don't think it is the government's business to know what their assets are. Just because the LDS Church does something doesn't make it right. The Bishop who left has since explained that as well as the things I suggested the turning point for him came when he was told by his Church leaders not to stop a proven child predator hanging around the children in his ward. Members and leaders of the LDS Church for decades do not leave on a whim or because they don't think God or the religious life shouldn't require anything difficult of us. It is usually because they realise and experience how much the Church expects that is contradictory to the values the church taught them God prioritises.

I was called to be the Bishop at 36 years old and I’m a cover to the church when I was 16. I can assure that being a Bishop is one of the hardest callings in the church as it requires a lot of commitments and sleepless night for 5 and 1/2 years I served, but the blessings and the joy I felt and my family received during those years far exceeded my expectations. So I can sympathize for what this man went through but I wish he could have handled it a little different. @@krismurphy7711 I'm going to assume you meant outcome not income. For the humble the outcome is always the same, though customized for individuals and their situations. For those who aren't humble, the outcome is always the same, confusion and misery. They may get momentary pleasure from the flesh, a high from drugs or the pleasure of thinking they one upped someone in a conversation, but then they have to wait through the lows between, for the next diminishing "high".

I spoke in sacrament meeting last week for the first time in awhile. I have been going through a hard time and wasn't sure how to get up there and share inspiration when I believed it but didn't feel it at the time. I spent a long time writing my talk trying to be transparent but also instill faith. Something like this guy's video is relatable to me in a way. However, if I were to be going through a faith crisis I wouldn't feel it my place to go up there and bring a whole congregation into that with me. This guy missed the mark

Good for you, getting up there again! Sometimes we need ministering, but later on you'll be the one doing the ministering. Ether 12. We all need help sometimes, but the Church provides the venue that we can give help too. Nice work. Thanks for speaking.

I was in his ward with him for 5 years. In that 5 years he was my Elder's Quorum president and I was one of his counselors in the young men's presidency. I know him and I say that as sad as this I wasn't very surprised by this when I found out. BTW his sister recorded the video.

I have to say as a current Branch President in Mississippi I empathized with his feelings. Until I started looking at how he processed this. A video done so well and going almost directly to the exmo movement. Seems incredulous now. I have struggled with many of the things he talks about, and even discussed being released with my Stake President. He was willing to release me immediately if I needed to take a break. No pressure to stay. After talking with him in depth about some concerns and issues that I was having i decided to stay the course and I continue to serve. Had I decided to be released I would have let the process go forward and definitely would not have made it about me. I think too much of the members of the congregation to do that. As you pointed out he will now be held as a rockstar in the anti world and john dehlin will have him on shortly. but it wont last. they will move on as soon as he doesnt serve their purpose. I will also say that the church has NEVER asked me to do anything morally objectionable.

I love the rapport among you guys. Suggestion: Whenever commenting on a video, please share the link to the original video so we can examine it for ourselves. On the comment, "You are enough" - God and Jesus want us to learn to walk in their way and not remain infants. If we are not becoming, then what is the point? Yes, the Lord takes us as we are now, but if we become stagnant or luke warm, we stop progressing. Hard trials are opportunities for growth. Still, if this Bishop could not handle the demands of being a Bishop - if he can't somehow find the strength of the Lord needed, to overcome the anger and resentment - but I do not understand exactly why he is stepping down. If he loved the youth, why not just for them? The fact that he said someone else more suited than he would do the job - there is humility. He seems very sorry. Still would like to know what immoral thing he was asked to do, and why he would just not do it.

Reference was made to an British bishop who resigned publicly. This occurred in January 2011. Old news really. He was a decent guy. Not sure of the process though

This is the poison fruit of expressive individualism. "I can't do it" -no, YOU can't. "I am broken" -yes, YOU are. "I need to be true to my feelings" -no, you don't. I did not hear one mention of how he is or was it will be relying on Christ to sustain him and, well, no wonder he burned out. But don't blame the church.
