I saw them in concert 10 days after the Bataclan attacks. I had made a sign with Elan's words "Come to life, open mind, have a laugh at the orthodox". I put the sign up right when Floor was singing it. She gave me a thumbs up and so did Emppu, Troy and Marko (Tuomas and Kai couldn't see me). Floor came back to me during the chorus for another thumbs up. Everyone around me was wondering what on earth I had written on my sign to get all these reactions from the band. 😂 But I knew I had written it regarding the attacks and I think they understood it that way. It was a nice connecting moment which suited the song quite well.

Tuomas must really love piano intros because a LOT of Nightwish songs begin exactly like this. To me it's reminiscent of Nemo, but only because both begin with piano (as does Greatest Show on Earth, but it was written after these two). Oh. and because for me Nemo was the first song I've ever heard from Nightwish and Elan was the first song I've heard that was written with Floor's voice in mind as the new vocalist.

Elan is one of my favourite Nightwish song. The build up to the chorus always, instinctively, makes me take a deeper breath. As if a gust of fresh air hit me. Every damn time, man.

You're correct with both Troy and Marko doing backing vocals in the chorus! Marko is sustaining those long notes you hear, while Troy is singing the main melody, an octave below Floor. :) They do the same on the studio version. Love this tune, it's such an uplifting piece! I share your appreciation of Troy too - I don't think there's anything that man can't play! Watch him bring something crazy like a hurdy-gurdy into the band next. Wouldn't surprise me!

As much as like every other Nightwish song that I have heard, Elan is by far my favorite! I have been working on a Surrealistic painting with some of the items used in the music...like the piano, flute, the mice...one of which is going to look like Tuomas with his facial hair and black top hat that he wears in the music video, the other two mice will look like Marco and Emppu! ( nothing put on canvas...just in my sketch pad! ) I am sure there are other artists that have painted fan art...but..it's my first time!

Spot on Chase - you only gets the full effects and experience being there on the concerts. They are so taking you in, the 3 in front, Empphu and Marco always talking to you - and Floor also, without leaving anybody out. They are masters in getting the distance from crowd to stage disappear - you feel them, connecting to the songs and getting dragged into the Nightwish Universe. They are special on stage, compared to many other bands - not all, but many. They are so human and relaxed, having WITH you. Great reaction from you again 👍 🤘

The official video is one of their most viewed and I think that's because it's fun, upbeat, and while it's not super deep or overly complex musically that's ok because it's very catchy and accessable to a lot of people and it still has enough going on like the key changes to make it more than just some kind of formulaic overly derivative pop song or whatever.
