REACTION TO Nightwish - Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean (Live In Buenos Aires) 

Are there any singers who put so much performance and passion into a song? (I'm talking both Foor and Marko here.) Nightwish are beyond superlatives. Maybe you should do Poet and the Pendulum Official Live.

The trademark Floor/Marko vocal gymnastics, the lovely musical theatre, Tuomas' composition and hammering execution, Kai's ruthless drumming and Troy's lovely E-bow run at the end, while Emppu's taking it relatively easy ;) This song is one of my favourites. The version with Floor, that is. Never cared much for the original. Cheers!

Marko's Devil character is amorously pursuing Floor's Mermaid character. She is having none of it, and manages to get away. The studio version is on the 2nd album, Oceanborn(1998). That's before Marko joined. Tarja sang it with guest male singer Tapio Wilska, and Sami Vanska was the bassist. I love the back and forth vocals too. This song does get recommended on reaction channels quite often. Another song with more of that is Ghost River (Wacken 2013).

This song is an absolute banger 🤘😎🤘. Kai's drumming on this is just crazy ( Kai Hahto "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto )!!! In one interview Tuomas/Marko said that Floor has a lungs of a dolphin (That long note is 💥)!!! Plus, she holds the last note (A4) of Nightwish - Ad Astra for 17 seconds (10/6/2022 Sweden Festival). If this wasn't impressive enough, I can also add than now she's just one, I mean ONE, second short from equaling Pavarotti's longest belt ever recorded. So,.... Nuff Said !!!! NWSU 🤘😎🤘

I'm with you, this should be WAY more popular than it is. Whenever I see a reaction to it pop up in my recommendations, I can't click fast enough. It's not only a great song with awesome theatrics, but it might be my favorite Floor vocal performance.

The vocals in this out of this world! And I love it.

It's one of my favorites and the entire Buenos Aires set list is amazing. This song filled with great, unselfish musical performances by all. It's especially fun listening to this one just to focus on Kai's drumming. Thanks!

best performing band of the past decade 2010 to 2020

This was the first Nightwish song I ever heard and I was hooked instantly. It was with the original singer but still just as awesome. Checkout Bless the Child from this same show

I really like this performance. I wouldn't want many songs like it, but then one of the things that draws me to Nightwish is the huge variety they give us, so there's no danger of that! It's a bit of high-octane musical theatre that really livens things up. And the drumming! So tight!

I think you will enjoy The Greatest Show On Earth. It's about the evolution and the slow destruction by humans of our Earth . There are two live performances, one at Tampere and one at Wembley. They are both very special for different reasons but my favourite is the Wembley version with the surprise at the very end! By the way , great reaction to my favourite song!

HI Have to agree with you. THis one is underrated. I heard it early in my nightwish journey, and it didn't click with me then. However, after many months of listening to a lot more of their stuff, it's really grown on me, to the point of trying to find reactions to this particular song, which is what lead me here. Nightwish do use backing tracks in certain songs, but I think you will find if you watch Emppu's fingers that he plays that cadenza (?), (the one at at 3:03) and throughout, especially at the end, but you have to be quick, as the camera is all over the place in this (and most! of Nightwish's live work).

The original album version, though it clearly had Tuomas' genius shining out, didn't really fulfil its promise. Tarja couldn't do the glisses like this and Tapio just basically spoke the words. When Floor reinterpreted it for Decades (this tour) it rapidly rose to the top of my list. However, it doesn't see the light again now, sadly. Another astonishing song with some acrobatics, from this same concert, is Slaying the Dreamer (same comments apply as above). I often recommend this one and many, many others do too.

I really like this rendition of this song! I think that this is less popular due to the fact that it is one of the more complex songs they have done. But I’m in love with it and especially this performance. Floor gets to really flex her vocal abilities here with alot of rasp, crazy high notes, a beautiful decrescendo and as usual a strong emotional connection to the song. Marco also gets to shine with his trademark raspy voice and insanely good storytelling. They really make a great pair and the back and forth is amazing! The drumming is out of this world! I love all the tempo changes and the fills that Kai does!

Great react to you! i definitely agree with you. i love the drums in this song and how everyone starts and stops at the same time. this goes on my top 5 list of Nightwish songs.

The views and lack of reaction requests for this one certainly point to it not being amongst their more popular performances. This is my favourite track from this concert - although i don't enjoy the studio original which has different vocalists for each role.

Good morning SalvoG, all others and special dutchies 😆. I would not say that the song is underrated but more completely misinterpretated or categorized. The whole composition by Tuomas - of course in combination with his perfect and probably irreplaceable instruments ( yes, i mean the band ) - is an example of his capabilities as an artist, an outlook on upcoming forms of his work, that will be beyond metal or DISNEY !!!😣 I know, i know (why? 😔). Devil and the deep dark ocean is more than just a song but a play, a short operetta and technically not easy to digest. My opinion: Human¿?Nature shows, that he is ready for an opera. He is a modern genius and Floor, Marko 😟, EMPPU, Troy, Kai complete musicians, a perfect match. To end this: i am so deeply sad, that i will never have the chance to experience our "Godess" and our "Troll beneath the Bridge ", all together. Few people comment on that video wall. Nightwish sure knows how to use it for maximum effect. They don't depend on it, but it adds another layer of awesome on the bigger stages where they can use it.

The number of views a song gets would depend on when It was posted. This one looks like it was posted just 3 years ago. 😄🤘

It's European metal. That's pretty much automatically two strikes against them in North America. As a result, their main audience is elsewhere.
