I am so glad you know that he is singing in Norse, props to you brother, and Payton is a BEAST ..., an amazing beast singing My Mother Told Me in Norse. I have know knowledge of Norse, but I know EVERY lyric he is singing, because I love the original, but Payton nails it!

There are very few of us that read the language because it's all in runes . If you can speak icelandic you can speak old Norse but reading it is still hard. Those of us that speak/understand nynorsk can understand like 80% of what he is saying. But everything he says and how he says is is completely described in the language. So as long as you can read the subtitles you can sing

there are severa "old norse" languages which would be called different kinds of germanic depending on area and time edit: as area and time change tha language does as well into different languages

"Old Norse" typically refers to elder futhark time period, there's not really "several" languages especially not several surviving. Icelandic is the closest modern language to Old Norse, however.

Old norse is considered a dead language like latin because no one uses in everyday use, yes there are people that speak a modernized version of norse but not like the Vikings

Yeah, that's called Icelandic. Jackson Crawford will be the best representation of Old Norse you're likely to find.

The hardest part about mastering Old Norse is its pronunciation unless you speak modern Icelanic. Speaking it is difficult enough. You won't catch me trying to growl or fry scream it.

I find it easier to "grunt" it myself, easier than speaking it normally I've noticed. Probably because it's more of a mental placement as that's when I "feel it" within me the most. But yeah the only reason the pronunciation is so hard for many people to get accustomed to is _usually_ stemming from modernized English speakers -- the mouth just isn't used to making those shapes or rolling letters.

His heritage is Iceland 🇮🇸 which is Nordic and they speak Norse. He was raised in California though.

Majority of Vikings were from Denmark. Icelandic is close to the Norse.

I could be wrong, but I think if you were wanting to learn Old Norse, you could, much like you could still learn traditional Latin, but if you want to learn the living language that is considered to be closest, you would want to study Icelandic.

Old norse is largely dead as a language. The closest people that can read and speak it would be Icelanders *To my understanding*

Icelandic is the closest language to Old Norse, yeah. It's not a one-for-one but given the phonetics of the words Icelanders would have the easiest time with it. Or Jackson Crawford.

Its almost old norse, the word is (some) right, but its that irritating american'isk dialekt, just practice needed. he nailed some of the R,(front of tongue) instead if american's R (back of tongue) love from north Norway

I imagine Icelanders would say you have an "Irritating" Norwegian "dialekt" yourself, since Norwegian isn't the closest to proper Old Norse.
