You've said that normally people hate the winner but this year it's different, look at the comments under his performance video, huge majority of them is positive. He really deserved it! He wrote it and sung it from his soul.
@@GizmosMonster Well, people are kinda mad because Sweden wins almost every year, so they didn't vote. I liked the song from the Netherlands but something feels... idk
kokoszanel yes he did deserve it! I’m so proud of him! The last time we have won, was in 1975. 44 years ago. So i think we deserve it, and i don’t know why people getting mad.. i mean what did we do wrong?🇳🇱🇳🇱❤️
I became addicted to this song from the moment it was released. It is on repeat every single day since, and the emotion never fades. I love The Netherlands also. I am also proud of my country's entrance North Macedonia this year. :D It was a great ear of ESC, right on time before I was about to give up on it since the last year's win. But Arcade, it is a whole other level of art...a life story for probably anyone at some point in life.
@@natashas.1566 Yes it is...So proud of this beauty of a song. After listing a hundred times I still feel the emotions.Straight from his heart. Thanks for your sweet comment.Love 🇳🇱
First of all- in Eurovision the songs with most special effects win. Usually a song like this doesn't win. But it did this year!! Well deserved. I have regained faith in Eurovision.
STORY BEHIND ARCADE What’s the song ARCADE about, Duncan?" - asked by the host of the Dutch TV show DWDD - Duncan answered: ”... I wrote this song during my study at the Rock Academy in Tilburg. It’s a story about a dear person who I lost at a young age. I've always had a hard time dealing with this lost. She had the love of her life but suddenly wasn’t there anymore. And until the end she had the hope that her loved one would come back before she died. But he didn't. And that HOPE I put in this song and video. I shot the naked under water scenes with director/photographer Paul Bellaart. What we mainly wanted to represent in the video is HOPE. The water suface is, as it were, the HOPE of: the light, the dream or the love that’s up there to reach for. The nude reflects the vulnerability and perhaps the rebirth from HOPE ….” Quote: "Arcade is a story about the search for the LOVE of your life. It is the hope for the - sometimes - unattainable" - Duncan Laurence, singer-songwriter [Born: 11 April 1994 in Spijkenisse, Netherlands]
7:55 dude you are so right. The performance itself is hated because it's "boring" as some people say. Not many people can recognize real art these days. That's the sad truth
Worthy winner in my eyes. Just like Portugal two years ago. I liked the Russian song as well. Poor UK came last 😥. I think Moldova should have got through, if San Marino got in🤔
Ja en ik wil met hem trouwen, het maakt me noet uit dat hij een vriend heeft. Dot zijn de rederlene: 1.hij is fk knap 2. En kan fk goed zingen. 3.alles daaromheen
What shall I say about this song and the Dutch victory? It has ALL KINDS OF EVERYTHING... a nice melody, easy to remember, lyrics everybody can relate to in their own way, and no unneeded gimmicks. A song of this quality, it's almost a FAIRYTALE, eh? It's certainly no HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH! I guess after 44 years, the Dutch can finally feel their feeling of EUPHORIA! Thanks to SATELLITE technology, the whole world could see this entry. Hsa the Dutch MOLITVA (prayer) finally been heard? And we didn't need a DIVA to RISE LIKE A PHOENIX! Well I guess Duncan Laurence and Ilse De Lange were the HEROES OF OUR TIME. In the end... OOOOOH, ALL I KNOW, ALL I KNOW, LOVING THIS SONG'S NOT A LOSING GAME! ;)
@@Josh_96 It was not hard... All I needed was EEN BEETJE inspiration. Sometimes I'm just DE TROUBADOUR, and I can make up these things like a BOOM-BANG-A-BANG! And this song was written with LOVE! SHINE A LIGHT on the Netherlands for it took some stress and effort to win the ESC. Yes, my fellow Dutch, I can see the joy IN YOUR EYES ;)
Actually his victory is appreciated by basically everyone. He was the big favorite and he won...people even thought he would've won with a huge margin but that didn't happen. This to let you know how loved the song is...
italians and russians are extremely bitter after him winning. even though both countries didn't even make 2nd place they act as if their singer was able to win
@@jonathancavallin4920 you should check out the instagram page for eurovision or duncan's own page. it's full of italian flags and italians telling him that he should've lost and that soldi was the better song. 75% of the haters are italian, 25% russian and 0% swedish because apparently that's the only country that knows how to deal with losing
@@moonlit8559 Of course I've seen some Italians complaining, but I don't find them an excessive number. There will always be plenty of people complaining about the winner, whoever the winner is. I'm sure that if Italy had won, Dutch would've gone mad, it's just natural. I find that this year the people complaining are waaay less then the last year.
Yeyy we did it! Im from the Nederlands myself and hé is the like first rlly good singer from the Nederlands! He is AMAZING he's voice is like.. A gift of God ❣️ he's the best xx
Wow, that is one beautiful song!!! Hooray for the Netherlands. And such a touching and relavant reaction from you Dan. You know what you're talking about. Except for the hate comments. Believe there are much less of those then you expected. Cheers.
Hi Dan, thank you for your reaction!😍 I am glad you liked it! I am so proud of Duncan! 😍🇳🇱 He did an excellent job there! I love the song! (I am still a Dear 😉). Greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱❤🇳🇱
Yess!! I am so proud of my country!! After 44 years we did it! And in don’t know why people getting mad. We did deserve it, right? You are a very good singer btw! Love from the Netherlands/Holland🇳🇱🇳🇱❤️
People are mad every year... It's Eurovision, after all! Okay, I wasn't really happy about Israel's entry last year, I will admit, but the Portugese winner before that also got people mad (probably because they can't appreciate high quality music). No matter who wins and if the song is good, people always whine.
i love how you talk about 2014 when conchita won bc netherlands actually placed close 2nd that year and if it was for just the music we wouldve grabbed the title in 2014 as well
I think that The Voice is a good preparation for event like ESC. It teaches the candidates a lot about technique, presence and pressure. His Voice coach was with him in Israel. In addition, Duncan obviously has the skills naturally, to begin with. If you can notice, he was petrified to perform, but once on stage he looses himself into his alterior world and becomes aware of the reality once the performance is over. So cool.
There were so many great entries this year, My favourites where Australia, Azerbaijan, Sweden , Italy , Netherlands , North Macedonia,Check republic and Iceland for the controversy..... I would have been happy with any of those winning...probably Australia the most for the vocal dynamics the melody and staging....oh and I'm from Australia...LOL! I didn't get how San Marino got through ....it was flat for me.
I love your reaction but by pausing the song every couple of seconds you sort of kill the build-up of the song, especially after the bridge at the moment the strings come in. That moment is epic and you completely miss it now... Thanks for your positive response btw! Thanks so much ;)
Thank you for your reaction. This year the songs were bad in my opinion except 3-4 songs. This was one of the good ones. The votes had no correlation with the songs and even opposites between the people at home near the judges... I do beleive there is so much politics in this competition...if in the past the points were given from a country to their country neighbors which this year wasn't like that "Thank God", this year you had nothing to vote for almost. Sad...at least the show was in a high level. At least this year the winner is the one that deserved to win. ❤
The hate this year is very minimum. People see it's as a far winner. I loved it from the first minut. And not because I am Dutch, but I generally think it's one of the most beautiful songs from the past couple of years.
A few years ago Duncan lost a dear friend and put his feelings in this song. He is a new singer / writer who recently came from the rock academy and immediately achieved success. All tickets for his performances in the Netherlands are sold out. A tour through Europe will follow later.

I'm from England and we never win but we were supporting Duncan as well since my dad works with one of Duncan's close friends so we were so happy when he won, a deserving winner
