There are so many hidden references and hints in this video! -purple color (color of power, imperialism) -the symbol in the scene when the young girl (Ukraine) is encirceled by purple bullies resembles a star (star is a symbol for communism) - the lyrics "we are not your dolls" might refer to the fact, that all sisters in this video (CZ, SK, BG, AU) were occupied by russian army in the past and have afterall become independent republic with own national identity. Russia does not "own" any of these former republics of sowet union anymore and cant "play" with them anymore. A country is not a subject nor a toy to play with! - crown in this setting can be understood as national indenpendence, that Russia is trying to steal from Ukraine -girls sitting at the table toward the end of the video, are simbolising politicans brainwashed by russian propaganda and smiling/pretending that everything is alright...while russian army is killing ukrainian people and occupying ukrainian territories - scene when a girl in blue (wearing colors of russian flag = representing Russia) is tasting the ukrainian tradition soup (borsch) with rise on it is representing Russia reaching agressivly after ukrainian soil and wanting more and more of it = current situation when Russia is agressively occupying Ukraine -in the scene when a girl is doing her makeup done in front of a mirror, she is doing her makeup firstly by herself and looks alright, but when a purple creature appears in the mirror she loses her control over makeup and looks messy/horrible = this might represents the efect of rusian propaganda how country has to look like in order to peal to russian ideal (but is in fact totally messed up and messy) -the lyrics "will not stand in the corner" might referer to the fact, that we as other european countries are not just looking on Russia attacking Ukraine and non acting, but we are supporting Ukraine with weapons, money and other needs to be able to defend itself. We have been warned so many times by Putin, Peskov and many other russian politics to stop providing Ukraine with all the weapons. We have been threatened many times by russian attacks or worse by starting word war III.....but nothing helds up back to support Ukraine 🇺🇦❤

On the topic of the "poor" national final: The Czech head of delegation revealed in the EuroTrip podcast that the Czech Republic was at the verge of withdrawing from ESC 2023 due to financial reasons. Hence the extremely low budget show. Still better option than not having the Czech Republic in ESC! :)

A few sentences about the controversy of the song. Some friends from Ukraine are dismayed by the references to Slavs and see the sisterhood as a reference to the brotherhood of the Slavic peoples which is a propaganda slogan of Russia. (Russians like to call everything Russian Slavic so that they can then claim that everything Slavic is Russian. -- K.H. Borovsky 1821-1856) After all, they are also upset by the membership of an ethnic Russian in the band. But she is against the war. I understand that nowadays any hint of Russia stabs them in the heart and can cause anger. On the contrary, as I understood it, the song is directed to the sisterhood - we are blood relatives, but we are independent. Whoever wants to sow the seeds of mutual hatred, whether by force or propaganda, will never break our friendship, national freedomof each and independence. Each of the sisters has her own crown. Not only one of them, or one of the shadows. As you can see in the clip, "everyone sings in their own language", at the end they sing with one voice, but each represents their nation, identity and stands firmly on their feet. None is in front, none is behind.

Thank you so much from the Czech Republic! 😍❤I was waiting all those years for my country to FINALLY send something more traditional, ethnic, folklore, with (also) Czech language, connected to our culture... 😭🥰 The mix of multiple Slavic languages (Czech, Ukrainian, Bulgarian), the deep meaningful lyrics and the overall message... can't think of a better representative of my country ❤ And btw. - just to let you know - the group is called after Vesna - an old Slavic pagan goddess of spring and fertility who is well-known in the mythology of all Slavic nations 😁

Hi from czech republic, personally i am glad for this systém of voting, because my experience with czech eurovision fans is that they won't vote for the song, wich is actually good, but their voting is based on that who they know and who they don't know. Artists who are famous have got better chance to be succesfull and that is the controversation in our country... one example for all - Benny Cristo... he's got so many good czech songs and he is really famous and thats the the reason why he won national final in 2020 ... Barbora Mochowa's song was much better. So, that is not fair in my opinion.
@THEAnnEla
@THEAnnEla Год назад
The song exists as a tribute to ukraine, but the concept of sisterhood is widely used by russian propaganda, so it is what brought some controversy, but the way I interpret is is definitely a direct support of Ukraine. Ukraine is the sister other Slavic sisters stand behind despite Russia trying to take her crown. But Russia is not a sister in this narrative. Russia is the power, those evil men in purple, the colour if power.

Given how long they were out the contest, and how they aren't being rewarded as such as they should yet, the Czech audience simply doesn't care about their entry as much as other nations. They had the one lowest viewer amounts for the final last year. Barely 140,000 people, that is only 1.4% of their population. They had less viewers than countries which have smaller populations (Denmark had half a million, Norway 1.2 million, Finland 2 million, Lithuania 1 million) Even Iceland who was bellow Czechia had 130,000 viewers, that's 30% of their population. Estonia which ranked slightly above had 230,000, 17% of their population. As such, it doesn't make sense to give them all the power in voting. Their broadcaster is trying to build a reputation at ESC and a following within their own nation, and they can only do that if they keep getting decent results with songs that appeal to other internationally. Hopefully this is the year the Czech get rewarded properly, and as such public recognizes they are appreciated in the contest and tune in more. Then the Czech broadcaster will change their selection process and severely diminish the International input like most countries do (and even then big contenders this year like Spain or Sweden still use international juries. It's probably best to keep those just don't give them all the power) Edit: It also makes sense their show was awful, they haven't done one in decades. They won't allocate funds to something that is still so small in their country. But the fact that they keep *trying* to up their game each year shows they're clearly trying to get that Czech hype train going. Plus, when it comes to actually delivering in at the ESC show, Czechia Honestly has one fo the best staging track records in my opinion. They're truly putting the passion into giving their artists the best show they possibly could, and the juries have been responding enough to pull them into the finals several times.

@alex_6448
@alex_6448 Год назад
@@mapsofpablo no problem. Ultimately a lot of your result is determined but your previous track record even if that sucks. It's why Sweden and Ukraine are always in the top of the odds for winning next year a soon as the final ends. It's also why broadcasters often have to take full control and select internally to turn things around when they've been doing poorly, like the UK did last year or what Slovenia is trying do this year. It's much harder to hit the Jackpot when you don't ever shake things up and leave it up to an audience that sorta does not care. The one exception to this i can think of was Portugal winning in 2017, and as we all know, that took Portugal quite a long long long to achieve.

Out of all the 8 songs selected so far, Vesna are my fave artist. Love the music video, so chaotically beautiful. Love the Czech, Ukrainian and Bulgarian. I like how this song gives me ambiguous messages, it could be about women and the "indoctrination" of women into a more submissive lifestyle. It could also be about the Ukrainian invasion. Love it. Easy top 10 in the finale.

Well, taking that fact that there's Russian and Ukrainian girls in their group(ukrainian girl participated in creating song), and they call themselves sisterhood, it's just gives some influence on general message even tho Olesya(russian)is ok, it's just gives overall concept idk how to name this, do you got me? but the message in general that all the slavs are sisters, while many slavs used to have big problems in past is just feels wrong, Czech Republic was also occupied by russia and that's not only case of "troubles" between slavs. Maybe in some big amount of time it will be ok, but right now to call everyone including russia , especially russia as a sisterhood is wrong in my opinion
@Artem_Vasylchuk
@Artem_Vasylchuk Год назад
Some people can think that Ukrainians are aggressive etc. I undersend that but try to understand our feelings when we see sisterhood with russia included. I mean it's literally the same to call Polish and German people as a sisters in that years, you understand which ones
@Artem_Vasylchuk
@Artem_Vasylchuk Год назад
And if Poland&Ukraine had also big problems 100 years ago, but now we understood everything, end now we are PARTNERS/FRIENDS, not sisters, do you understand why it's inappropriate? But with poland it's been 100 years, with russia it's still going from 17 century, they don't understand their mistakes, we don't agree with the message of the sisterhood, especially with russia itself

I like that the performance is bright and multicultural. What makes me uncomfortable is demonising men, which is not fair. Women are shown as individuals, everyone is different, but all men are shown as faceless objects. I do not think that the fight for human rights means demonising another social group. You know, women are not dolls, absolutely agree, but why men are for them?

So as i understood,the story is the consideration that everything what is Slavic must somehow be connected with mother Russia and they want to show that all Slavic nationalities are in that case a sisterhood and they are proud and equal. That equality disrupts Russia who doesn’t feel and respect this equality. When I heard the first time this song it was a Winner alert 🚨

There is not a word about Russia. Explain to me why anything regarding Slavic countries is viewed in relation to Russia. Can't just countries speaking languages from Slavic group have some closer relation. Why always include Russia instead exclude it? As for me it more belongs to Asia than to Europe.

I have nothing against the support actually I’m totally ok with it, I support it. And think that the way I have received the message is also good. I think that you didn’t understand my comment at all, and that’s sad 😞. Vesna is for equality in Slavic world and the Russian politics never felt this equality that’s the point.
