AOL-Time Warner merger killed WCW. Once they ended the timeslot, the value of the product plummeted... thus leading to the "pennies on the dollar" sale of WCW to the World Wrestling Federation. This concludes my TED Talk.
Wow nobody's ever shared the info you did before. How novel. Except the fact that it's nowhere near as simplistic, and reduced as the picture your little "TED Talk" paints.
This has been an excuse for years but it's much more than that. The fact that the poor decisions made by "Everyone" at WCW that includes Eric Bichshoff, Hulk Hogan, Vince Russo upper management and massive egos from both wrestlers and other staff ultimately lead to AOL-Time Warner killing off WCW. They were losing 7 million dollars a month at the end. Why would AOL-Time Warner keep it? The people mentioned above also need to take credit and stop using the merger as the sole reason WCW died.
wcw could be still if you had people they knew how run things and not let go of something made you money and because it fit or you not fan of wrestling and the creative there was a mess at times and when ppv went over time and things gotta of control and when nwo start to fade down when start bring 30 people if you kept at lease four to five people it got less and less underesting and when aol and merger it was over wcw because did like wrestling it was same .
I'm surprised this is getting this much attention. We've heard about the death of wcw thousands of times and heard thousands of different perspectives to the point I figured people were sick of hearing it.
everyone love blame hogan.. heres the bottom line wcw built sting up for a year made him look like superman. the biggest star in wrestling history is going to put you over clean and sting shows up to the biggest show in wcw history out of shape couldnt even bother to get a tan and had a i dont give an S attitude. hogan was right for not putting him over clean protecting himself and the company
Hogan killed WCW lol … he came in and established the company to a whole different level. His heel turn made them the #1 wrestling company on earth for a year & a half. Yeah he killed it lol…. Sounds so stupid
Management killed wcw ultimately. I think we all debate and argue due to all the mistakes/bad angles, older stars for too long, trash/crash tv that happened, believing if anything in particular hadn't occured, the program would have been better and therefore saved. I think after these shows, it will be accepted was management, especially when you finally hear the executives and the disdain 25 years on you feel in their voice for wrestling. Plus we forget, company was being sold, all they had was the rights to air it going forward if wanted, so they wouldnt have anymore loses on their books, but was still canceled, and thats how Vince bought, he had first rights due to a lawsuit, no more exclusively to air on tnt/tbs, sure theyll touch on that in later episodes. However the people, Eric, Russo, Hulk, etc dont just get a pass as if they didnt contribute in diffrent ways to killing the support/popularity of wcw as a product.
Doesn't really matter, the end result is what it is. The sad joke here is that as tragic as stories like ECW and WCW were, NOTHING compares to the garbage company known as aew that has taken the amazing opportunity they have as a so called "alternative product" and flushed all its potential, innocence, and plans for a better wrestling world down khan's toilet...> There isn't any wrestling company past, present, or future that has done THAT MANY things wrong to sabotage themselves and equate to making ZERO PROFIT their entire existence! They continue to play to 3/4 empty arenas every show...> All the other companies have actually done good things and gave themselves a chance to succeed. Khan's aew is little more than a year away now from going out of business. Next failure...>
