Switching from Workspace to a normal consumer account is hard too! My experience is similar to the one who wrote the article. Started with GSuite almost a decade back, recently, Google said that we have to switch to Workspace which I did. Then we wanted to automate home and got to know Workspace accounts are not supported. Then we thought - we will migrate everything and create new Google consumer accounts. I started to look at migrating years of Google drive documents. Support said that they have no official tool. When using Google take outs, the folder structure is lost!! If you try to download your folders in Workspace and re-upload them manually to a Google one account., all your google documents become Word docs and Google Sheets become Excel sheets. (That is because you literally cannot download a Google Sheet etc), all the sharing etc that you've done is lost. If you run two instances of Google drive in your computer and simply copy and paste Workspace files to your Google One's local storage location, when transferring Google docs,sheets etc, a DOS error comes up. Talked to Google support and they have no solution. Feel fed up now!!

Facing exact issues while trying to migrate content from one account to another. Migrating content should not be a hard solution but it seems obvious that there is more benefit to not to offer a seamless solution. Luckily, I'm migrating content from my old universtiy account to personal account and there is a direct transfer possible, however, I have no control of what to transfer, and even 'shared with me' content is getting transferred 🙄

I have the same issuie … but my main problem is … how the heck do I make sure, that I'll be able to login into many services I used Google Login for? And I cant create a new Google Account with my email till i delete my workspace? This is messed up … why can't you just transfer a User to a personal account

The problem is you need a domain, I only need storage for daily online backup with my team, I dont need gmail, meet, and other unnecessary stuff

I have a folder with pictures on google drive. How do I remove the duplicates automatically? ( I copied a bunch of photos from different sources and some are the same)

I signed up with my own domain in late 2008. Only use it for gmail and youtube and have several family members who also use my domain. Am currently trying to use RU-vid Premium Family but it won't let me for my G Suite account. I'm not sure what the problem is? Presumably all my family using my domain have personal accounts, and when I started I should have added myself a personal account and just used the Workspace account for domain magement? Is there anyway to do this without losing any data (or my youtube vidoes or viewing counts etc)? Ideally I'd make a new account and give it control of my domain then remove admin access from this account but it seems G Suite doesn't work like that?

Unfortunately since they are under a workspace account, there is no way to get those Google play services working. It sucks but you’re out of luck mate The ONLY way to get it to work is to use a consumer @Gmail account instead It’s one of the trade-offs of using workplace for personal/family use… and worth it in my opinion for the additional security etc

@@itGenius_ Thanks, I think I understand now. My account/domain is classed as a business and therefore not eligible for a 'family' plan. It seems my problems could be solved by migrating to a personal account but keeping the current account just for email ... except we'd constantly have to swap between accounts when checking email. But then I'd also lose the ability to reset my kid's passwords which sounds risky.

That's great! Google Workspace is a great way to store your files and collaborate with others. Using a subdomain for your storage account is also a good idea, as it will help to keep your personal and professional files separate.

Google workspace is used by both media people and individuals who could use it for personal reasons connect to family business and home life you use it through chat like Facebook which has massage and WhatsApp that could be use as a platform for business alongside work and leisure so everyone has a Gmail account possibly linked to Facebook or Chromecast, and either Google TV which uses Gmail access or maybe access to a Google Chromebook ( family and friends) weather business-family or otherwise Google needs to have Google Family Space another version to Workspace or just bring back Google Plus-family a mix of both worlds a free resource that is available for all ages students and business and for family......?
