So interesting! I’ve only been watching Caroline Winkler’s channel for a minute but love her sister - this author’s! - SAVAGE interior design reactions when she appears as a guest on Caroline’s channel. Definitely reading!
I'm actually the opposite to you on the Shakespeare authorship question - I started out open minded to the idea someone else wrote the plays, but the more and more research I do into it (there are over 5,000 books on the subject) the more clear it becomes to me that the man Shakespeare himself was the person who wrote them. Pretty much every single time in my experience it's the anti-Stratfordians who are trying to put others down and claim other people don't know what they're talking about. I'll still read this book though, I'll read literally ANYTHING on the Shakespeare authorship question I'm such a Shakespeare junkie (if you're already familiar with the authorship arguments I'd recommend both Bill Bryson's chapter on it in "Shakespeare" and James Shapiro's "Contested Will"). Thank you for bringing this book to my attention, it's now on the list. If I had to recommend a mystery/thriller that was the greatest page turner I've ever read, it would be Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire. Strongly recommend if you haven't picked it up, I think you would love it.
Winkler’s book does not portray Shapiro (as an individual) in a very positive light to say the least and she is very critical of his book. Not arguing either way on the topic, but giving you a heads up as it could make Winkler’s book either more interesting or frustrating depending on the context of your previous research.
I clicked on this video SO FAST because I recognized the cover through the blur filter on the thumbnail! I LOVED this book. I went to an event at The Strand for it last year and literally stayed up until 4 AM on a weekday afterwards reading.
Alright, you got me intrigued. I really was about to write it off when you first said what it was…but I stuck around to listen…and I’m actually now sold on wanting to read it. 📚
Before reading this book I didn’t know more about Shakespeare than a high school education can hammer into any disinterested teen. I also don’t often read mysteries. This book was fantastic. Will read anything else Elizabeth releases for adults haha
My sister is a fan of Caroline’s channel and recommended I try out the book. I thought it was a fun time as well! It was my first introduction to the topic though, so I don’t know how it holds up for those more familiar with the topic, but as a standalone it was a good time. I really enjoyed how irreverent and snarky it was.
It is truly quite beyond me how you managed to get me so hyped for a book that I should really not be interested in at all 🤣Consider me sold, this sound fascinating!! I am glad you loved it so much!
I was considering reading it after the last video of Caroline's that Elizabeth was in and now i think i will. I'm considering recommending it as my next choice for my book club. Thanks for sharing your review!
Love this take!! Also, the author is the sister of Caroline Winkler, who creates great snarky RU-vid content. Will definitely read! Edited to add hahahahah you watch her tooooo, what a talented family jeez
wow! Elizabeth Winkler wrote books?!😍 shés Caroline's sis! Awesome!!She seemed so laid back 😅 Îm impressed and Îm definitely gg to read it thank you Liene🤗❤️
Video was well done, especially the music breaks. I think I have heard of this before, but I am at a point now where I am picking up more non fiction so it has been added to the list. 😅
Thanks for the recommendation! It's a great reminder that real life is so often more thrilling and engaging than our imaginations (fiction) can create. :)
Omg what have you done ? Lucky for me, I'm going to Petone for breakfast & the excellent Schrödingers bookshop lives there ( this is a Liene perfect bookshop) - damn your enthusiasm ( have I ever seen you so excited before - not mentioning Abercrombie or Gaiman lol) ❤
I was about two minutes into this video when you first posted it, and then I decided to pause it and go read the book. I went into it knowing almost nothing about the authorship question. I finished the book convinced that anyone with an open mind can’t help but question the authorship once they start looking into it. The book was every bit as good as you promised. Thanks for the recommendation.
5:32 Has she engaged with the thesis, it was Shakespear, he was a secret Catholic, he had been in Jesuit colleges in Northern Italy, and that's why he knows the area so well?
My interest level of the Shakespeare authorship question is so extremely in the negative, I hate the topic, but I do trust you, so I guess I'll have to give it a shot at some point.
Shall we say, I'm pretty sold on the idea it was Shakespear himself, and he was Catholic, but of the ones presented as alternatives, I'd give least scepticism perhaps to Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford or William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby. Bacon was too overall different, I'd say (without having read him), and Marlowe was much gorier as a playwright.
@@isenhobbitz Thank you! I'd definitely agree on the latter assessment. Part of the "weakness" of Shakespear himself is ignorance of where he got whatever education he had, but there is obviously the thesis he was in North Italy under pseudonyms in Jesuit colleges, preparing to become a priest hider. Part of it is obviously also that we are now less used to the things an even secondary education would have involved back then. LOTS less Math and Science. LOTS more history, literature, and how to do descriptions.
Hello! I'm new to this BookTuber's channel. So, I have a question: has Liene read Malazan Book of the Fallen, but hasn't done any video reviews on it? Because I can't find them. Or does she plan on reading them? Or has she given them a try and then DNF-ed them? Because I also looked for a video rant on Malazan between her videos, but couldn't find any. Maybe she doesn't plan on reading them or talking about them at all...?! Edit: after much searching, I found two videos about Malazan, but they are both about Gardens of the Moon. So, it seems like she DNF-ed the series...? I'm very much interested to know if her father stuck with it though. He seemed to like it and he said that he has faith in Erikson. So, I hope he did!
Liene is the best chuck out the rest................................. dang... Liene IS the best chuck out the rest but I have no desire or intention of ever picking up this book aargh this is really testing the mantra grrr aarghen overload ok its on the spreadsheet fkkit.
Have you seen the movie Anonymous with Rhys Ifans? There is some pretty convincing evidence that Shakespeare's plays and poems were written by the Earl of Oxford.
nothing satisfies me more than proving someone or something wrong that is so guarded, protected from challenges or discussion. Welcome to conspiracy theories . . . it is another term for someone who merely questions reality so if you are a buddist you are screwed
