Ahh, the traditional Mari's December reread of the fairyland series. We love a Booktuber who is on brand. I loved Sea of Tranquility it's definitely my second favorite St John Mandel book. Station Eleven made a strong impact when I was in high school so I don't think anything else will top that but I loved Sea of Tranquility. It gave me a lot of similar feelings to The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell.

Speaking of themed short story collections: I read “The Secret Lives of Church Ladies” by Philyaw this year and LOVED it. The audiobook is really well done and only a few hours.

I'm accidentally doing this too 😂 On the 6th of this month I just decided on a whim that I'm going to hit a 150 books this year despite only being on a 124 at the time and so now I have 20 books left to read in the next 2 weeks 🙃 😂

I once heard Schwab describe their plots as setting up all the dominos then pushing them all over. For me that doesn’t work very well as far as pacing. Mix that with some of those “Not Like Other Girls” notions and I feel like their stories just aren’t for me.

I wanted to read all the goodreads romance nominees this year, but yikes. 2 Colleen Hoover books AND Tessa Bailey?! 🫤 (I did actually read the Tessa Bailey book because so many people sing her praises, but between the mess of Fix Her Up and this, I’ve discovered she is not for me.) Oh, and Katherine Center too…Not sure I’ll read a book by her again since Things You Save in a Fire was one of my least favorite romances ever. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the rest of the nominated books.
