And also books in which the (often female) protagonist overcomes something challenging. Can also be non-fiction. That is not really a genre though... either a trope I like in whatever genre it is embedded.
The kitty is so sweet, it must be really hard for you to try to not get attached to her. The fact that her owner doesn't even check on her is really alarming, I guess she is really lucky to have found you 💞
Every time she jumps on the table or attack my legs, she makes it a bit easier :P She's adorable though and I'm just hoping she'll be okay no matter what happens
Seems like you got yourself a cat! She's clearly better cared for by you and you love her 😻 I think Octavia would be a great name since you love the author so much!
Awesome video. Thank you for taking care of the cat. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛ That neighbour doesn't deserve the cat. Leaving the cat outside in freezing weather. How horrible.
@@BookswithEmilyFox Me too. I love my two cats and if they disappeared in freezing weather, I'm be terrified and devastated. 😭😭 You should just keep the cat. Clearly you are a much better cat owner than your neighbour. 🐈⬛🐈⬛
I would look up how long the owner has to respond before they've basically voluntarily given her up. And keep record of it in case the previous-owner changes their mind later on. She's such a cutie 💓
You’ve been adopted by the house panther. Congrats on the new roommate! ❤ Also, the fact that she goes through trash makes me think her old owners never fed her so that is how she is used to finding something to eat.
KEEP THE CAT!!!! 😺That's how I ended up with one of my kitties : my mother's neighbor's cat was always outside. In winter, the cat was always sleeping next to a ventilation vent for warmth. At first, we thought it didn't have any home. We kept feeding the cat and finally someone told us that it belonged to a neighbor. The guy claimed that the cat wanted freedom and was always escaping (from a third floor balcony!!!). I have asked him if it was alright if I try to adopt the cat and he agreed. Since the first night in her new home, Sissi has always slept by my side on a warm bed! It's been 6 years now. So.... Keep the cat!!!
I'm glad you found her! If her owner would answer I'd totally offer to take her if she doesn't want her... until then I'll try not to get too attached :(
The kitty has adopted you! Please keep the kitty so she doesn't have to go back to her horrible owner! Honestly some people don't deserve pets. I know what you're saying about Children of Memory. I really like it (more than book 2 at least) but the middle part was rough. I had to search reddit to make sure I'm not dumb lol.
I was adopted by my cat too :) after 8 years of living one street away, and passing by occasionally, he chose my house as his permanent residence, and I couldn't be happier. He's one of the most important things in my life. My neighbour who owned him came over once to see if he was here and said she was happy he was well cared for and didn't do anything to take him back so... 🤷♀️ good for me. And he loves sleeping in the bath rug as well!!
Keep the cat. If the owner isn’t responding, then she’s abandoned her cat and now there’s a kitty who needs a home and who obviously loves you. And you wanted to get a cat anyway!
That neighbor doesn’t deserve that cat. You mentioned before they’d adopted 2 previous black cats and both of them died. It sounds like they intentionally don’t want the animal to survive.
Yeah... my only worry was that it was other neighbours that told me that (not that she'd bragged about it but you know...) but the fact that she hasn't been answering my messages on facebook (she has in the past) and doesn't seem worried at all about her cat not being home for a week during the coldest weather of the year so far... :/
My dog loves to sleep on the bath mat too!! She has a comfy bed, there's a sofa in the living room...and yet when I go to the toilet in the middle of the night, she's right there sleeping lol.
Please keep kitty. She’s there for you! Trust me! Each of our kitties were rescues. That is mine and my 2 sons. What a blessing each have been!! Trust me. You need each other!!
Came here as I read one week one shelf. It seems quite a challenge, but it definitely will be on my top to-do list, probably with a bit modified version, just to keep my day entertained by reading ~ Thanks for sharing the video ~
congratulations for being choosen for the cat distribution program! oh you didn't sign yourself up? Don't worry you don't need to the cat did it all for you enjoy 😂
Congratulations on Miss Kitty adopting you! You are a worthy cat mom, unlike her previous owner, who, let's face it, has forfeited ownership at this point.
This is literally how we got two of our cats. Neighbor put their cats outside and was not feeding them. Noticed how skinny they were getting so put food out and then they just stayed around. Sweetest cats ever.
Name the kitty already!! 😊She chose you for her forever home!! The other person doesn’t deserve such a sweet kitty!! She is just beautiful!! Congrats on the new addition to your family 😉❤🎉🐈⬛
Hi Emily. Just want to comment on your new cat. Congrats! They definitely want to be warm. I re-honed my cat a year ago and learned that their normal temperature is higher than ours. But that being said, my cat sleeps in a ton of places. That hard wooden dining room chair, on top of my puzzle boxes (usually when I am working from home and my puzzle table is right behind me). I would recommend a cat litter box cabinet. They’re functional and look so much nicer lol Also I recommend using Feline Pine litter pellets. Way better than that scoopable stuff. And the other thing I learned is a lot of cats do not like their water bowl near their food bowl. Good luck!!
Hey Emily we took your recommendation on Amazon's Three Pines series. I am so glad we did! My husband and I started watching it after you showed a clip in your last vlog. And when you said you were liking it better than the book, we were sold. We just finished it yesterday. It was great! Hope you ended up enjoying the entire series too! More people need to start talking about it, because we need a Season 2 :)
It warms my heart seeing that you've given the kitty a place to stay in that cold. It also makes me sad knowing her owners leave her out just like that and never care... Anyway, she's been lucky and, by the way, you should call her Octavia 😂 This week I've been reading sci-fi as well!
Lol my cats sleep on our shower rug. They have bowls of fresh water everywhere, but one of them insist on drinking from the bathtub 🙄 lol, and they're food fiends lol
Omg cats lol The kitty didn’t want to drink out of the bowl of water I gave her but she would drink out of my glass so I decided to trick her and left a random glass of water on the floor for her and it worked for a while but now she must’ve figured out that it was all planned because she’s been drinking out of the bowl containing some plants instead 🙄💀
I also really loved Children of Time I read it because you loved it and I'm really curious about the other books in the series and see what I think about them. I think the kitty choose you as her new owner because she keeps coming back to you, she is so cute❤️
I got two 5 stars from January, Dawn by Octavia E. Butler (I’ll be starting Parable of the Sower tonight) and Mirrorland by Carole Johnstone… Definitely gonna check out Children of time
In my town we say that you don't choose the animal, the animal chooses you. And personally all the cats and dogs that I've had to this day have, in fact, made it to my doorstep by their own, just like your black kitty. Maybe is a sign that should adopt her for good.
I'm so excited that one shelf is here! And starting with scifi is great. I think you'll find that cats love to sleep in the weirdest places. My cat loves to move into different ones and can really surprise us where she picks. I hope everything works out for the two of you. Also, of course she had to come inside- you're a good person.❤️
What a great shelf!! So glad you're starting off with a bang. I've been stalling on CoM because CoR wasn't my favorite (even though I liked the space octopi). It's very encouraging to hear you gush about it (even if it got weird near the end). I'll read it sooner now.
Something that maybe nobody has told you about cats is that you never adopt a cat, a cat adopts you, so I guess you're lucky enough to have been adopted by a cat! Congratulations!
I actually loved Wild Seed. Mind of my Mind was a bit hard for me to read. But definitely completing the series. I also haven’t read Fledgling and the complete Bloodchild and the last two books of the Patternmaster series.
This was a super fun video! I hope the cat situation resolves as best as it can! I'm so thankful you're there for her. I live in Nova Scotia and we've been getting the wild cold snap as well. I feel so bad for any animals caught outside. Looking forward to the next one book, one shelf vlog! =)
If she was out in weather that cold, the owner isn't taking care of their cat. It is possible she is an outdoor baby, and I have had outdoor cats but her owner should still be keeping her inside for extreme temperatures. You could keep her for awhile and see if the owner objects.
Hi, Emily. Listen, about the cat, in my experience no cat will leave and stay for days in some stranger's house if they are safe at home. If she eats from the trash can probably had to learn that because her family didn't give her enough food. You tried to contact them and they don't care. One of my cats dissapear for 7 hours one day and I went to talk to my neighbours crying with his picture. That's what someone who cares does. IDK if there are any details that we don't know but based on the information that you shared my conclusion is F.... the owners. She has already chosen you. What you could do is try to keep her inside for some time, like a week or so, that way you'll make sure that she understands that she has a new home. I have no doubt that soon you both will get used to each other. Here speaking from a cat person's heart. 🤗❤
my cat loves to sleep on the bathroom mat, even though he can sleep anywhere in the whole house! he's obsessed with the bathroom anyway...what a weirdo hehe
Congratulations on the new cat! Sounds like her previous person is not interested anymore, which is sad, but also this kitty will have a better life for it. It takes some time to break them of the people food habit but it is possible! One of mine was a garbage diver as well, and now he mostly shows no interest in people food, pizza being the only exception for some reason.
I'm listening to the children series from the beginning. Before I read the third book. I vote that you keep the cat. I know concerned about the cost and giving her the best life, but from what I've seen you would make an excellent cat. Mother, certainly better than her current parents
The fact that she goes through the trash can tells me she (probably) wasn't properly fed and she had to scavenge for food in her previous owner's house. Which is in line with everything you've said about her owners so far.
Patternmaster & Clay's Ark are very early books by Butler. Personally I wouldn't have them as required except for completists - themes are consistent with her later work, but they certainly aren't as strong. I read Mind of My Mind before Wildseed, which I think made Wildseed much better because it gave me a bunch of backstory that I appreciated.
This is a book video so we’ll mention books lol. Tchaicovsky is on my list. I keep looking at that series Now the cat. She’s so beautiful! -35 and no domesticated animal should be out all night. ❤❤❤
I’m reading Wild Seed now and I understand what you mean. I’ve read some of her other books so I’m sticking with it. But it is tougher than her others.
I was hoping you'd pick up Children of Memory, because I was unsure if I wanted to continue the series (I thought it was a duology, so I considered it as a series I finished😂). I'm still undecided tho'. I just started my first Octavia E. Butler book (Dawn) and I really like it so far! I'd love a video on all of her books, once you read them all.
I read Children of Memory in December and if it hadn't been from that series, I would have DNFed it. I was so confused in the middle, nothing made sense and I had to bride myself to pick it up (read a chapter, watch a video, repeat). I liked the new crew and the stuff at the end, but the big chunk in the middle was not easy to read. If he writes more, I'll read it though.
Keep her she is perfect for you and plus Pets help us so much she will you so much with emotional physically and train her and etc god blessed you with her and a miracle 💕❤️💕📚📚📚❤️🤍🤍📖📖🤍❤️💕📚📙📙❤️❤️📚📙📙📚💕🤍🤍📖🤍❤️📚📚📙📙📙📚❤️🤍❤️💕📙📙📙❤️❤️🤍📖🤍❤️💕📚📙📙📙📚💕🤍🤍❤️📚📙
I’m not usually a Sci-Fi gal, but my fiancé and I are watching all of Star Wars (minus the Clone Wars series) so I’ve got three Obi-Wan centered SW books on my Feb tbr
Right now am really into time period of Regency & Victorian lit. More importantly 🤗, why are you still resisting? You are roommates & pals , she has chosen you: name her, have fun! And she is Beautiful!!!
The cosmic cat distribution system has clearly chosen you to be her human. Also, my cat loves to sleep on the bath mat especially when it is damp.. no clue why cats are odd.
I just got my pre-order of Children of Memory and can't wait to reread the first two and then read this one. They will bet next physical books although I really want to pause my current book and just read Children.
Wild Seed is the only Octavia E. Butler book I've read which makes me sad because I was looking forward to reading more of her books but after this one I haven't given her another try. I would LOVE a reader's guide because I'm not sure which book of hers to pick up next, I'm too scared lol
I think the Patternist series is easier to get into, and probably more rewarding, if you're reading them in publication order instead of chronological. But yeah, I feel you on Wild Seed, Butler's books are never easy reads and this series is imo especially rough.
