A true mystic! Tears soften my heart in sorrow for my part in ignoring the indigenous people of this land, this continent! Joy's beauty sings! Wisdom is her truth! Hope is her strength!
Years ago, I read Ms. Harjo’s memoir, CRAZY BRAVE. I thought it was stunningly beautiful, so original--a majestic prose poem. Regarding her poems, I really like the line “The world begins at a kitchen table” (which she mentions in this reading). Those words express our shared humanity, as we each grapple with our daily lives to build worlds and new experiences--especially today. (In fact, some of my most revealing and heartfelt conversations were/are at my family’s kitchen table.) Thankfully, today Ms. Harjo is our poet laureate.
We are teaching Harjo in our 11th grade English class in NJ (Newark). Been a huge fan of hers since reading "Anchorage" several years back. It's one of those poems that's so good you have to copy it down word for word... you know?
I love listening to her. I wrote poetry that found me after 2 strokes last year that almost killed me. I write poetry to share my heart with the world as she does. I would love to be able to share as she does one day when things go further. I wrote my book and self-published so the Next step is to share more with others. Thank you
@@bonniehutchinsreynolds6552 I am going through every day fighting for the next having my ups and downs but my writing of my poetry helps me. I look forward in the future to be able to be on talk shows and pod cast as this will help me be even stronger for me and my writing. To let the world know of my book soon to be books. I have made myself walk again but some days even that is a struggle but I put my faith in God or the higher powers to guide me and my writing. Thank you for your reply.
