Got rained out, so came in to watch TV, and see you had just posted a new 020 video. Man that thing is a real pain. Stihl used to have a special tool to remove the clutch spider, but I just use some rope in the cylinder, and use a heavy punch and a dead blow hammer, and have had good luck with removing them. Do the opposite to put it back on. The Lucas 2 stroke oil is a high ash oil, just like the Stihl oil, and don't recommend using it long term. I have really been impressed with the Echo Red Armor oil, as it is the cleanest burning oil I have ever used, and the saws run noticeably better when using it. Many pro's recommend it also. I really appreciate your dedication to solve all the problems with that rascally 020.
Thanks so much for your Insight my friend! I am having fun with this little guy and learning alot, the little saws are a real challenge and I feel like if a guy can master the little ones, the Big ones are much easier!😊
Most bigger saws are a lot easier to work on and fix for sure. Resister spark plugs have a hotter spark, as the built in resistor requires more electrical energy to fire the plug. So if a coil is weak, they will make the problem worse. These plugs work best in cars and trucks, and if you have an oil burner the plug will stay clean longer because of the hotter spark. On old cars with crappy radios, they didn't cause as much radio interference as well.@@KainKustomGarage
That vacuum pump idea sounds like a lot better way to not upset the ol lady vs the oven bake! And I gotta remember that clutch removal trick 😂. Worked like a charm! I'd agree with swapping out that other seal and double checking the metering lever & welch plug. Might get a better idea doing a plug reading when it's running "good" vs when it's acting up. Confirm or eliminate that it's loading up... I didn't even think of that kill switch, hats off to that suggestion. Keep pluggin away at it and let us know.
That's one of the best things about chainsaws. Sometimes they can be a real challenge to get dialed in. I know you'll get it Dan. Some say "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." I say "What drives you crazy, makes you smarter." LOL!
Hey ! Thank you dude ! :-). Pleasant to listen to you Stihl 020 story. Nice to hear you close to satisfying result and progress. You might should buy the correct coil too.....if you find it. I think i ones put an 025 coil on a 010 saw... hmm. But ok...those 020 came many years ...i think...and there could be variations as you discovered. Hmm when changed the other cranck seal...it might be perfect...if not...as you say...you figure it out. I haved some 010...that is pain in the butt too....but how they are cool and nice light saws...when operating good. I have a top handle too...which i do not totally find out of... It is inconsistence... I have a 012 too that works perfect..and a couple of 010 that work perfect. Have several 020 that i did not check out yet...but they are running. Takes a time...when you have that many...to be sure about their differences and behaviours...because you need to test them several times...and use them for a while...before you know...it is stady and well in shape. But much good stuff in those models yes. I am very pleased with them. I have...as many others...way too many saws though ha ha ha., When you buy some barn finds or...stock...or piled together saws...suddenly you have allot. The Stihl licenced repairman also went on retirement...and by some surcomstanses i got to buy allot...allot of his left over customer exchange saws. I think i bought close to 30 saws from him he he he. Ok...Well...many peoples love the 020 saw ! :-). Interesting clip and analyzes ! Thx ! :-)
@@KainKustomGarage He he but they are amazing and facinating and also has some designs that is intriguing cool. It is about attitude and how you choose to feel...I think. Perfectionism is atractive for many and i think that is positive ! The feeling...when it works as it was intended to do and you managed to solve the issuses and understand the machine. It is good ! :-)
Next time put the coil in a air sealed container and pull a vacuum on it with a good vacuum pump. It will totally dry out your coil, watch crystal or any other thing you want to dry with out heat. It must be a good vacuum pump though. Thanks for your video s Tap the clutch with hammer and punch with starter pull removed..
Mr. Kain! 15:58! Clutch shoes fly off...as others have said, rope in the spark plug hole as a piston stop and use a brass drift to drive the clutch spider off. Great troubleshooting sir...
nice progress, i just assumed that you did pressure test, i always disassemble and look visually if i see wetness its bad, looking forward to see next video
Freagging nice man. I have 2 them bad LARRYS. Both hanging from the garage trusses. Picked em up from an older gentleman urs back. Never have even pulled the rope on either one. Saving them for a snowed in 3 day event.
I think that other crank seal is the problem. Use a piston stop and it should be fairly easy to remove the clutch drum. Make sure you paint it lime green before you send it to MR Obsolete or he might not accept it.
Worked on one of those 020 for my brother, it would only run with the choke on ,did a carb rebuild, still had the problem, split it again and pressure tested the carb and had a leak , found the leak ,it was between the aluminum carb mounting bracket and backside of the boot .yours maybe doing the same .
You got this brother hit that clutch with a screw driver one shot should loosen it. I would take the starter off. I still think you have fuel delivery problem. Is it loading up on fuel or leaning out? Usually notice fuel/oil mix coming out the exhaust when it loads up, do you have any exhaust wetness ??
Have you seen that new titanium bar husky came out with it’s a nice bar you won’t never bend it and if you do it’s $130 for a new one my local husky dealer has one on a 592 fuel injected if I had the $1500 their asking for it ide buy that saw
A resistor plug is for four cycle engines, And what it does is keep the plug from making the stereo in your car buzz every time it fires! Your lawnmower will interfere with the television in your house just about the time your wife is watching her soap opera and makes the TV sound like it has the facts! I do use the Lucas 2-stroke oil 50:1 mix if I'm poor that week and can't afford the VP small engine fuel. No bad things to say about any Lucas products! Forrest Lucas sponsors so much shit in the racing world it's crazy! His son used to run a top fuel dragster. Your lucky you didn't pinn the throttle on that thing when the clutch decided to make a unintentional departure from the saw! I had a chainsaw that I had just purchased and didn't look things over first before cracking the throttle wide open and the next thing i was doing was trying to get the hell out of the schrapmedal zone! That was two years ago and I still haven't found one of the clutch shoes to this day! Unbelievable how much force that frickin thing came out the bottom of the clutch cover!😅
