Reading fiction makes us more empathetic. It stimulates our imaginations. It allows us to simulate what the characters are doing and feeling.

I have already read 35 fiction books in 2022! As well as several non fiction - reading is EVERYTHING! My vocabulary has expanded so much, I find I am able to communicate much more easily with people as well as being able to express my feelings in a much clearer way!

Dang thats really good! I dont have alot of fiction books. My books usually consist of dense reads on philosophy, psychology and forensics. Im barley at 10 lol

This was so interesting - I love hearing your perspective on topics through the lens of brain science. I've always loved reading fiction too, I guess for me it is also nice to do something that doesn't involve a screen. Especially as I use my laptop most of the day for work.

Yeah couldn't agree more, I always read before bed because I don't want my phone to be the last thing I look at!

I recently read The Familiar Dark by Amy Engel. I'm a young adult male living in a city. Reading about a single mother living in a small town who's only child was murdered was a very different perspective. Even if it's not a true story, it showed me a lot of the horrors women face in the modern world. There's some pretty dark stuff in there but empathy wise was very valuable as some problems Eve faced in the book are actually experienced by a lot of women.

Whenever I read a fiction novel, I feel it affects me forever. While TV shows or movies, I can’t really remember them as much except a few meme moments.

I'm a 59 year old male and last read fiction in my last year of school in 1983. My issue with fiction is that because the characters don't exist (other than in the author's imagination) and as such I can't get invested in what happens to them because in the bigger picture it doesn't matter. You might therefore think I think reading fiction is a waste of time...not so...if you enjoy reading fiction then it could never be said to be a waste of time. My wife said my empathy and EI is lacking sometimes and she believe that my unwillingness to read fiction contributes to this. I had to study English Literature at school and I absolutely hated it because we only ever read fiction. I consume books constantly but always non fiction.

I’m 54 years old and felt the same way for the last 29 years that I’ve been reading history biography business success etc. but I always felt a void , I was always in the low track English as it was called at school for the not so smart ones, I decided recently to read English literature & I’m loving it, I’m trying to catch up on all I’ve missed, since this my own choice and not school it is a wonderful pursuit, just recently read Dickens Great expectations which was great reading, I’ve also just read the shorter ones, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm , All quiet on the western front to name a few, it’s worth it, believe me, once you seriously start it is worth every minute of your time!

Some time ago, I was trying to examine if there was any benefit in reading fiction (since we all run to self-help books at least one in our lives for help). I came to the same conclusions as you but failed to find a synthesis of the ideas that were running through my mind… Glad there’s this video for anyone who has the same questions!

I for one get annoyed that so many books are adapted into some form of screen medium. One may picture a character a certain way and then suddenly an actor can ruin the way we pictured the character. I’m proud to admit that I have not seen a single Harry Potter movie! And I always refuse to look at it when someone watches it in my presence. I’ll leave the room or leave the residence. Harry Potter is good enough to experience in written form only, and doesn’t need a screen adaptation to back it up.

Consider Remaking this Video? It feels like your guessing at the end of your sentences. Your pace is to slow to retain people. Flush out the Idea and make the B-role match better. Reading fiction, like Dune, The Name of the Wind, or the Da Vinci code, Stimulates the wandering mind in a way nothing else can. Your Doing Great Jack. This Video Idea Has the Potential to Pop
