Bit of a different type of video, but one I've been wanting to make for a long time. Hope you guys liked it!
The Workbasket was a women's magazine that originally focused on crochet, knitting, tatting, embroidery, and other types of needlework, for "Pleasure and Profit". After around 1950, they began expanding into giving advice on cooking, gardening, and other things of interest to women at the time, as well as the addition of (in my opinion) much beloved sections like Women Who Make Cents and Junior Workbasket. The magazines can be found cheaply on eBay and are a wealth of information on not only needlework, but in later issues, advertising and culture.
The first lot of magazines I purchased contained all twelve issues from 1952, hence why most of the ads in this video came from that year. While working on this video, I purchased another thirty, ranging from 1947 to 1955.

Victorian Laces
-Pansy Lace
-Spartan Lace (modified to be an insertion and not an edging)
-Narrow Alameda Lace
These all came from my favorite (i.e. the most understandable) Victorian crochet book, Home Work. It's available for free on Archive.org. archive.org/de...
If you're looking to work with it, I recommend searching for the pattern you want to make on Ravelry to get a completed visual.
Vintage Laces
-Edging #3-19
-Handkerchief Edging #53 (Since this was meant to be worked onto a handkerchief, I made a chain, then did a sc in every st to create a base.)
-Handkerchief Edging 8366 (Same as above)
-I can't find the last one, but it's on the site!
These patterns came from the Free Vintage Crochet website, one of my favorite resources for digitized patterns. freevintagecro...
I'm currently making these lengths of lace to make a pillow!
Thanks so much for watching! If you enjoyed the video, feel free to subscribe. I have a new editing program (saying goodbye to my iMovie days) and a very exciting sewing project coming, so you won't want to miss that. See you next time!
